Use my coins at BTS/MRT. Easiest way if in Bangkok. -
800K topped up late ( options please )
soi3eddie replied to blue angel's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
It is for this reason I use a separate account and never let it go under 810,000. Just not worth the hassle or risk for a bit of cash. Starting from scratch again can be a lot of work. Agent option not really a good idea if the OP actually now has the required 800k. Good luck whatever happens. A leson to you and all of us on here. -
Why Learn Passa Thai? Your Justifications for Doing So?
soi3eddie replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in Thai Language
Learning Thai language (at least spoken) for me has: 1) Made life easier in Thailand 2) Made life more fun 3) Generated more respect from Thais 4) Lessened the hassles and attempts to scam or rip me off -
UK Visa Fees increase
soi3eddie replied to theoldgit's topic in Visas and migration to other countries
Jeez that's a hit. We were going to apply for the 2 year Visit Visa this time to save applying each year. Forget that at £400! I believe fees are supposed only to reflect costs of processing. How can a 2 year Visit Visa require much more work than a 6 month term? -
Agreed. This is what I expect and what I'm afraid of. The stock markets and company shares just seem to keep marching higher. Pure speculation based on extreme P/E ratios whilst so many people are broke and indebted to the eyeballs. History repeats unfortunately. Markets crash and wars incoming. Thailand is probably the best place for many of us to be.

Realistic maximum top speed on metre gauge lines in Thailand is 100kph. The state of the tracks in some areas is shocking. Even the new double track south of Hua Hin looked uneven (picture June 2020). They would need to build elevated standard guage for high speed. A good comprehensive article for rail enthusiasts is at: https://futuresoutheastasia.com/the-mixed-gauge-mess-of-thailands-railways/

Thai Airways sues over passenger’s flight diversion criticism
soi3eddie replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The THAI Airways PR department is making a mess of this. As a business, this is no way to react to customer critiscism. A simple statement on procedures and need for safety would have been plenty. Instead, they let it blow up like this threaten to sue a customer for making criticism (since retracted and apolgised for). Not a great way to treat customers. If the management have this attitude then how can that affect the attitudes of customer facing staff such as cabin crew and ground staff in the performance of their duties to the customers. Doesn't look good.- 341 replies

And how was your reply or input of any help to the OP at all?
-
Thanks for your input @Liverpool Lou he simply said "North East" so it was unclear which country. But thanks anyway as always. So, in this case he needs to go to the relevant places regarding his father's body, cremation and to sort his father's affairs.

Maybe someone else here has first hand experience on this. If I was you I would contact the British consulate in Bangkok. They can advise you on procedures and put you in contact with authorities here (if you are not already). I think you need to come to Thailand and conduct your duty (as no one else appears to be inline to do so). You can then arrange things and get paperwork in order. Get the required certificates etc. and deal with finances after the ceremonial rites of cremation and scattering or repatriation of ashes as you wish. Sad for you loss and hope this helps.

Stray bullet injures man in Bangkok car park incident
soi3eddie replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
I had a staff member in the London, UK whose cousin was stabbed to death in broad daylight in 2022. Truly shocking to see as it was filmed by many innocent bystanders. I also drive a lot in the UK, I also ride a motorcycle often and drive a car in Thailand. Trust me, being on the roads in Thailand is nowhere near as dangerous as walking on the streets in certain areas in the UK. At least in Thailand drivers are not aggresive and intimidating in the same way they are in the UK. True, many are idiot drivers in Thailand but it is easy to drive defensivly and keep out of harm. -
Bank statements for UK spouse visa
soi3eddie replied to killblues's topic in Visas and migration to other countries
Surely your bank will allow a downloaded PDF account statement without charge. My Bank (Lloyds) offers a couple of choices for downloads. One seems to have full name, address and account info. Are you using a savings account? Hard to beleive they can get away with charging you £190 for a statement. Beauty of PDFs is that they can show colour logos and retain formatting same as a maled statement. This is what I used for a sucssessful UK Visit Visa application last year using current account statements. -
Car Blocking the Entrance to my House.
soi3eddie replied to Jumbo1968's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
In the 1980s I lived in London near a park. Sometimes, if there were summer events going on, someone would park a car in front of my garage. No big deal, trolley jack out and simply raise the offending car and push it out into the street. The police would then come and tow it away LOL. The OP might have an issue moving the neighbour's car though as he's already given himself up as being inconvenienced by it. -
Thai Airways flight diverted to Sydney, captain clarifies decision
soi3eddie replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
This flight was a 5 year old A350-941 so it should have had all the latest equipment. Looks like the captain assesed the situation at Melbourne before diverting to Sydney. There was no go around or missed approach. -
This is possibly an issue for me too. Assuming I leave my Bangkok condo in a Thai will to my Cambodian GF, I have yet to be given a clear answer that the Land Department will allow transfer to her name without her bringing in funds to the value of the property from overseas. I would like a definite answer too. The lawyers were unsure on this and couldn't guarantee either way. FWIW; when I divorced my ex, I had to remit 50% of the settlement value again from overseas in order to get her name removed from the land register, and the condo then put solely in my name.

British man dies in failed parachute jump from Pattaya condo
soi3eddie replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
It looks like, as posted above, that the small chute line was trapped within the main harness and could not deploy the main chute on jumping. The full video is below but does not show anything gory. I ask that for clarity, mods do not remove this. Just for answering the real question as to what happened and to end speculation. From what I see, the jump was rather hurried with less than sufficient safety checks (likely worried about security stopping the jump). A very sad tragedy to an adventurous thrill seeker. RIP. 1706534643445.mp4 -
A great post from experience. Sadly, too much loss of face to even consider a qualified and proven foreign manager or CEO to manage THAI. Are THAI still selling meals served at airline seats in their HQ at Viphavadee I wonder? A bit like their "puff and pie" brand and other waste of resources I expect.
-
THAI will blame their ranking decline on Covid and their bankcruptcy. Nothing else. THAI were, in my opinion, much better before Covid and all the cost cutting through bankcruptcy. As they shed staff, the onboard service and smiles declined. Food and beverage declined too. Still no menu cards in transcontinental business class and less quality choices. With the now higher fares being charged, there is no excuse for THAI not to be back in the top 10 globally. Just goes to show how poorly managed the airline still is. The cut in mileage redemptions awards in 2019 was dissapointing, but back then I would suspect that very few passengers in business or first class were paying for their seats. Also, the rumours of freebies for "connected individuals" was rife. Having said the above, it is still my favoured airline for LHR/BKK/LHR due to scheduling and ease of travel (and until my ROP Gold expires).

British man dies in failed parachute jump from Pattaya condo
soi3eddie replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
That doesn't show the jump itself. I have the full video which clearly shows the jump from start to finish (no gory stuff). The main shute never opens. Only the small shute that he can be seen holding in the video before jump. He then crashes through the trees. Very sad loss of life. -

soi3eddie replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
@GammaGlobulin As for blasting the blasted music; not in my condo but definitely in my car (Burmester sound system with 12 speakers and subwoofer) and also when walking with Soundcore Q20 bluetooth headphones. Favourites are Pink Floyd - all of Darkside and Comfortably Numb off the Wall. And EDM too 555. Picture from 06:00am last Thursday in Wachirabenchathat Park (Chatuchak). -

Even the younger generation love Toccata too. They likely couldn't name the piece though. Timmy Trumpet performs it superbly as part of his EDM set for a younger crowd. Saw him at 808 festival last month in Bangkok. Amazing performer.
