  1. Not just that about drinking more quantity. I like a glass of wine, if I know that I can go to a restaurant to enjoy some decent wine without being robbed then I'll be more likely to eat out. My point being, lowering tax on wine will also likely benefit restaurants.
  2. DHL from Thailand to UK has worked well for me in the past. Many shops/locations in Thailand and the package is tracked all the way. Post today and it'll get there by Monday 4th December. Total 1,270 Baht. https://www.dhl.com/th-th/home/get-a-quote.html - can change website to English.
  3. Thailand started reporting CRS in June 2023 to all countries part of the system. Thai banks will report your details to your "home" country. Without your permission. No hiding all that huge interest on savings accounts now! 555
  4. What? You make no mention of AseanNow or Thai Visa? TBH, if you are bored in Thailand then you are likely to be even more bored elsewhere. Get out there and enjoy!
  5. I have met numerous tourists, and have friends and acquaintances from the UK, not stopping for more than 1 night in Bangkok, on their way to/from Vietnam as their main destination of choice. Thailand needs to do more to attract travellers/tourists by making it easier and more welcoming to visitors.
  6. Ingenious and fun creations. More crash protection than a motorcycle so surely safer! They should be applauded and given an honorary engineering degree (if they don't already have degrees).
  7. Thanks. That's good to know. Does anyone know how early road tax can be renewed? 1 month, 3 months before or different - want to avoid being late or getting fined by police.
  8. So long as your visa/extension is all good and no adverse history then no problems at Poipet/Aranyaprathet re-entering Thailand. Expect touts but politely decline and go your own way. In February this year it took nearly two hours to cross (45 mins out of Cambodia and over an hour into Thailand). The Thai border agents there are <deleted> hot and will notice any irregularities - I left Thailand to go to Singapore (no entry stamp) then the Phnom Penh. The Thai agent at Aranyaprathet questioned me as to where I went after Thailand before Cambodia! As docs all in order (Non-O extension with re-entry permit) so no issues.
  9. Can get you agent info for Pattaya to open Bangkok Bank account. PM/DM me if that's any use to you. @DrJack54 recommendation of Maneerat should work tough.
  10. Friend just moved to new condo in Bangkok. Quite a fancy place. They have the usual signs about short term lets being illegal etc. No keycards, but very impressive facial recognition for door access and also lift (elevator) control only to permitted floor/s. Unless registered with Juristic, almost impossible for rental to frequent short term guests.
  11. Just think of the bills involved in cleaning up that mess. RIP to all the Daffys.
  12. Finally just got around to registering and now filed a TM30 on my own behalf as a condo owner. Took just 15 minutes in total (after reading the guides etc.) and I would say that Thai Immigration have definitely improved the system. It's great that registration is instant. I was a user of the old system since 2014 and it was a nightmare. The old system would not work on certain browsers, it had poor layout, and often submissions would not get accepted. Thumbs up to developers of the new system. Now registered, filing a TM30 should take no more than 1 minute.
  13. Allowing purchase of services would benefit the economy far more than purchasing goods. Any money spent on on local services would cycle through the community rather than simply fall into the hands of the big, dominant retailers. Or maybe that's the plan...
  14. Nothing to worry about. Simple stamp and no fee. Future visits not in jeopardy.
  15. When I saw the topic title, this was what I expected to read about. In my experience the old "bait and switch" here by realtors is common practice. I've seen condos listed on Sukhumvit Soi 11 for less than 5 million Baht. Call the numbers and you get "sold already but we have others at 8-10 million and up". No thanks.
  16. Err Zero? Aren't Indians supposed to be prohibited from holding 2nd citizenships anyway? Sounds like the guy was using money buying a 2nd citizenship to try to avoid something. Now he's <deleted>!
  17. Yes. Until cash and prompt pay are banned as illegal. The 10,000 Baht free money won't seem so sweet then!
  18. Surely that date is wrong. Didn't he mean to say "1st April" ?
  19. I used to run a business in London in late 1980's, solely repairing puntures for motorcyles. Tubeless were only common on bigger bikes back then but we used to repair them. Always did from the inside and yes, the plug was mushroom shaped. Never failed. In Thailand I had a puncture on my ADV150 and took it to the repair shop (one with castrol logo IIRC) and they put a folded rubber strip into the hole from the outside. It worked ok but that tyre always lost a bit of pressure every few weeks. In the end it was time for new tyres anyway. Advise using a proper plug repair from the inside if possible. Repair from outside should be considered temporary only IMO.
  20. Used to enjoy the unlimited Sunday brunches at Sukhothai, St. Regis and Kempinski. Kempinski was my favourite as also unlimited drinks (including Louis Roederer Champagne) for 4 1/2 hours. They lost money every time I and the GF dined there 🙂
  21. Agreed. Type of food, area, budget, ocassion (general, birthday or anniversary), HiSo, LoSo, Western, Thai or other Asian preferencese might have elicited some good suggestions. I have used Tripadvisor, Google Maps and local listing websites such as: https://bk.asia-city.com/restaurants over the years and had mostly excellent experiences. Places come and go and change so what was good 2 years ago may no longer be so appealing.
  22. They will change the meter and start billing properly again. This happened to me a few years ago. No claim for any underpayment of months when the meter was faulty. YMMV.
  23. MEA read the meters manually (mine is not a smart meter) and once opted for online billing, they no longer put a bill in the mailbox.
  24. Same here. MEA send me reminders by text SMS and email. The bill is also shownline at the MEA account. My online banking with Kbank knows the correct amount too. The meter is read on 5th day each month so I set a reminder to login and pay on 6th of month. My UK electricity provider send all by email and does direct debit. Wish I could easily set-up direct debit for my Thai condo as if not paid within about 2 weeks they may come and remove the meter!
  25. TOT (now NT) are incumbent dinosaurs. I still keep a landline with them but left their internet service in 2014 when it was still 2mbps. Never looked back. 3BB have been superb for me.
