Hard to like after 3 months? 3 weeks was enough for me. On the border of Buriram and Surin provinces. Below was the highlight of the day. Dry, dusty and hot as hell. 30 minutes to the nearest gas station, coffee shop or 7-11. Even longer to get to a bar. No thanks. 20200325_092345.mp4

I love French Indochina for that. Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia so much better than Thailand for bakery and wine.

My observance too. Bang on correct. Typically, Thais are not in a hurry unless riding a motorcycle or driving. Won't cut queues either, unlike Chinese when in Thailand.

Bangkok taxi driver fined Bt2,000, license suspended for overcharging
soi3eddie replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Should have been 20,000 Baht fine and full name and shame with picture too. Maybe then, the rogue Taxi drivers will obey the rules. In effect, the 2,000 Baht fine was paid for by the customer that got ripped off. No mention of compensation to the customer.- 12 replies

Workers welcome wage rise but businesses concerned over higher costs
soi3eddie replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Did anyone else here notice prices increase after the minimum wage was introduced some years ago? I was shocked at how low some workers were paid and glad to see minimum wage imposed. How any workers in Bangkok, and other cities, can survive on just over 300 Baht per day is hard to beleive. One thing for sure is that big business owners won't feel any pain if it is increased. Smaller businesses may struggle though. There's a lot of aspects to any increase, however these low paid workers (such as security guards, kitchen staff, factory workers, farm labourers and construction workers etc.) do need support. -
Over 1 Million Chinese Tourists Visited Thailand So Far in 2023
soi3eddie replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The biggest travel time for Chinese is the lunar new year and that has already passed in 2023. From that, it could be assumed that their will be fewer Chinese arrivals for the remainder of the year. Especially now their economy is going south and unemployment soaring. -
I'm sure that you can book the extra seat and allowance. I ALWAYS call their Bangkok ticket line on +66 2 356 1111 They normally have an English speaking representative on the line within 30 seconds (Thai Time). Very helpful in my experience for numerous bookings and changes during and since the pandemic. Use Skype for virtually free calls (a few cents or totally free if on subscription).

Jeez. There are so many nicer places to visit and live in Thailand than Phuket. Easy to avoid. Leave it for the wealthy and tourists who know no better.

Public advised to keep their guard up as COVID-19 resurges
soi3eddie replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Yawn. Same old, same old. If you are worried about covid then stay safe. You know the procedure. Everyone else will get on with their lives (or deaths). -
That is good to hear, however two Pattaya/Jomtien agents have separately told us that they can't help. Must have own money in bank to meet requirements. Last time the agent handled everything for the one year non-o first time. This year is extension. They cited the crackdown on visas for the Chinese as reason for this. Maybe things will ease up and our agent can help. Have now put money in own bank just to be safe anyway. Current extension expires end of August so there is time to season the funds.

I sent £9,700 in GBP from Lloyds Bank yesterday afternoon UK time and it arrived in Bangkok Bank account today about 3pm Thai time. Total received (after any BKK Bank fees) was 409,144 THB. Rate worked out at 42.18 THB/GBP. Seems ok to me. The sending fee from Lloyds was £9.50 and I did it online (have regular payee setup). Very fast and easy. Wise rate right now is 42.93 THB/GBP however we needed the ease and availability of getting the Foreign Funds Receipt from the bank.

I got my re-entry permit at Suvarnabhumi airport last month after using the fast track. If using the main area fast track, then just walk behind the desks to the far end where the re-entry permit office is and hand in your passport, form and payment. If using Thai Airways dedicated fast track, then walk along the concourse and back towards the main immigration hall. As you go up the ramp keep right and then turn right behind the desks. I was always anxious about doing the re-entry permit after getting stamped out, however it is fine and no problem at all. If using the regular immigration hall, then it's easy to do re-entry before getting stamped out.

MEA in Bangkok to replace computer bills with SMS?
soi3eddie replied to lopburi3's topic in The Electrical Forum
Same here with MEA as payee setup in bank payment settings. Not sure how it pulls in the payment amount but it does. Been doing that for well over 10yrs. Was able to successfully get registered for email bills too - that stopped the paper slips. My meter gets read on 5th of month so set a reminder for 6th to log in to bank and pay. Once paid they send a receipt by email. They also send emails and SMS bills. Can also login to MEA online to see usage and past bill history. Could be a bit simpler but it works well. Same with AIS, NT-TOT, 3BB too. Useful when overseas so not to forget to pay. -
Denied permission to leave.
soi3eddie replied to Randy99's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Sorry for a little bit off topic. Do you know if that's for agent based applications too? My GF was told by her agent that she needs the money in the bank for this year's Non-O extension (family, supporting Thai child). Would be good to know if anyone else has encountered same. -
Must have upset someone real bad bad or simply a case of opportunist robbery by female "friend". Sad for his Thai wife and children. Never piss off a Southern Thai. They don't <deleted> about. Mueang Trang is pretty boring but maybe he found some P4P that went wrong or was it something more sinister?

Future MFP MP arrested for drink driving in Bangkok
soi3eddie replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
After the elation of the winning result, the comedown of being found drink driving. At last, an honourable elected official who does the right thing in resigning and admitting guilt. I hope that there is redemption and she can serve her sentence and come back to do good for the country and people. -

One-Way Flight Tickets Into Thailand.

Thai Airways have started to show this on their website recently. Say's nothing about being denied boarding though. -
Another coffee shop near my hotel bites the dust.
soi3eddie replied to steven100's topic in General Topics
Agreed. IMO, can't beat 7-11 coffee for quality and value. Won't get the comfort and ambience of S***bucks or similar, but your coffee will still be "hot" and tasty when you get back to your room after 5 minutes walk. -

But when those paying customers, and the next customers don't return, how is that going to benefit the business? -
How often aircon filter need changing?
soi3eddie replied to giddyup's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Pretty much all vehicles in Thailand use the A/C in recirculation mode all the time (rather than drawing in hot air from outside). As such, the A/C filters do a good job "purifying" the air in the car - certainly removing particles and dust. Having a clean A/C filter AND your Air-Purifier will give you the best possible quality of air. -
How often aircon filter need changing?
soi3eddie replied to giddyup's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
For car aircon filters in Thailand, I would change every 10-15,000 KMs depending on environment. Blocked filters will reduce airflow and cooling and put extra stress on items such as the fan.
