@Roger That is on the right track. If a service or website does not typically serve a particular country then, from a web host's point of view, it can make sense to block that country. I have used Cloudflare in the past for my sites and they offer the option to block access from any country. Most hackers seem to come from a certain concentrated group of countries and will often try to breach a website or server (we can see from our server logs). When I'm in Thailand I need to access a couple of websites for business which are blocked to me unless I login via my UK VPN. Those sites would never normally have any customers or users outside of the UK.

My condo is 13 years old and only once has the common area fees been increased and that was after the first year when the original fees were unrealistically low. Since then, no increase at all. The building is well run by Plus management and the co-owners are a decent, educated group. First AGM was packed with co-owners. Since then, it's dwindled and now only about 12 of us attend (out of 99 units). Just 3 foreign owners in our building. In recent years we've had a number of special assessments to cover one off things such as equipment replacements and pool deck replacement. I would rather increase fees than have special assesments every year. I had suggested this at the AGM but, Thais being Thais, they just won't accept it. What they don't seem to get is that we pay for it at one time or another! For me, I would rather just make one payment a year but I gues Thais don't budget even when they know fees are payable by end of January each year.

The Brexit vote was determined in June 2016. The date that Brexit came into full effect and UK immigration rules changed, was 1st January 2021. At this time EU citizens had to apply to live in the UK unless they already had settled status. Quite some time after the first wave of Covid-19 pandemic which started in early 2020 forcing workplace closures and lockdowns. This caused many citizens around the world to flee to their home countries and travel restrictions prevented many from returning.
-
It wasn't how many EU citizens left the UK when Brexit happened. Many left during the pandemic BEFORE Brexit happened.
-
Clearly, a great many because they are not able to return now. That is why many did not return to better employment options.
-
Depends on whether or not they filed claim before leaving during Covid. Many didn't, which is why they are not able to return to work.
-
I agree entirely. I'm British, I voted to Brexit based on what the government at the time promised. I was somewhat surprised at the Brexit result. Disappointed at the reality. Mostly on the EU laws which subsequently got adopted wholesale and not reversed. Beleiving that Britain was strong enough to prosper. Who knew that things would turn as they did. Our negotiator, David Davis under prime minister Theresa May was a total waste of time. Could Not negotiate himself out of a paper bag! Covid-19 was a gift to the government to cover up Brexit failures, and as many Europeans fled the UK back to their homelands after not securing UK settled status (despite being qualified, but not claimed), they are still unable to return to the UK and work without visa/work permit. This has presented UK employers with issues and many businesses in the UK remain short staffed and facing failure as a result. For UK business exporting to the EU, then it has been nothing short of a disaster! Red tape and regulations abound. I'm not one to apportion blame, save to say if we want to move forward then we have to do what is neccessary. Myself and many others are simply looking to exit the UK and head permanently to Thailand. We are fed up with all the B.S here. Brexit has been a failure IMO whether UK based or Expat.

And your opinion on this is?
-
Same for me too. Went on for nearly 2 months both in Thailand and here in the UK. Think I might have picked it up before going to Thailand in October. Very many people here have similar. Cough, catarrh and nasal congestion. I'm only just over it now. Non smoker and not Covid. I thought it was Bronchitis at first so took antibiotics but no change so stopped and got no worse. Seasonal flu perhaps back after the CV19 pandemic? I really have no idea but felt worse than when I had Covid at beginning of the year.

So what happens if you don't pay? Surely can't be right? I thought Thai AirAsia were bad enough! -

Have Scoot got intentions of becoming what Ryanair want to be? ???? -

That must mean advance seat allocation vs seat allocation at check-in? -
Adoptable cats at Benchasiri Park
soi3eddie replied to Tumbleweed1a's topic in Plants, Pets & Vets in Thailand
Admirable intentions. Be prepared for a challenge though if trying to walk out of the park with caged kittys. Be certain that anyone intent on taking care of the cats can look after their health and welfare in a positive way. Vets bills and healthcare and time all come at a cost. -
Condo Electricity
soi3eddie replied to Mr Frank's topic in Real Estate, Housing, House and Land Ownership
No. The Juristic Person (condo manager) cannot demand a co-owner to pre-pay electricity or water. As a co-owner, the electricity would be direct with MEA or PEA depending on location. Water is next to nothing at 50-200 Baht/Month so should be no issue there. Maybe I'm lucky in that my condo, owned since completion 13 years ago, has a great management company (Plus) who we, as co-owners, choose to re-engage at each AGM. -

Thanks. In year 2000 the cheaper subsiduary of SQ used to be Silk Air and they were OK when I flew them (just read they ceased in May 2021). Only things I've heard about Scoot are that they are S.h.i.t.e! -
Anutin Downplays Covid Regulations for Chinese Visitors
soi3eddie replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Tourism Authority of Thailand Governor Yuthasak Supasorn said this week that he expected Chinese tourists to begin arriving on January 5 and that approximately 300,000 would arrive in the first quarter of next year, which would benefit the tourism industry during the low season. Contradictions in the above statements. How can a "sudden influx" be "gradual"? Low season does not start properly until May so 5th month (not first quarter) anyhow. About 3,000 Chinese arrivals per day into where? Chiang Mai, Don Mueang, Suvarnabhumi and Phuket? Where else? After one to two weeks will they be leaving? -

It's for that reason I booked Singapore airlines for February. Was unaware of any entry requirements regarding vax certificates. Airline never mentioned anything on booking. Thanks to contributors here, I'm now aware and prepared. -
About time our useless British government (I don't care which party) finally stops dithering and makes a sensible decision. Not only a negative PCR test on check-in before boarding the plane, but a LFT on arrival too. Any positives sent back immediately on same plane! Should be same for Chinese arrivals into Thailand too. No need to import more infections and risk safe health and lockdowns.

Entering Thailand was a breeze
soi3eddie replied to dj230's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
You did nothing wrong with those covid extensions. By getting a tourist visa you hedged bets for an easier entry (and longer stay) and were successful. What did you expect? -
Is this the same health minister who derided foreigners as dirty and bringing in the virus? Double standards or what! And we all know why. Money talks and those living in Thailand put at risk to keep the pay masters happy.

Bank and passport check
soi3eddie replied to Mino's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
No this was at one of the exchange counters in the basement of Suvarnabhumi airport. Not a bank. I was able to use pink card at SuperRich near centralworld without problem earlier this month though. -
Bank and passport check

Almost certainly will be blocked from conducting the transaction. Gave my Thai pink card at a Bangkok exchange earlier this year and they wanted passport instead. -
From what I viewed last year, and from a friend who viewed many in the areas of Hua Hin and Khao Takiab, then overpriced. These were new and resale units. New places are small, resale are typically in need of renovation or project in poor state of maintenance. Only by going to see for yourself will you get an idea of whether they are up to your requirements and quality and price. You may find good value, we didn't.
