  1. Maybe it's you. I ride a motorbike and occasionally drive in Thailand. True, other drivers maybe bad drivers but I find malicious road rage almost non existent in Thailand. Especially when compared to London and the UK. Jai yen yen...
  2. This is such an unnecessary tragedy for the families and country to lose 10 people a day to drowning. It's something I have been close to when a niece of a GF drowned in the family pool. I have also aided at least two Thai children out of their depth in hotel/resort swimming pools whose family were not watching them struggling and going under. Surely the Thai government could run (if they are not already) public safety campaigns on the TV channels telling parents to teach their children to swim.
  3. Sad story and hope for the best. Seems like he had an annual multi-trip policy issued as part of a premium bank account. These type of policies normally cover "unlimited travel worldwide with a maximum of 30 days per trip". Normally there is a stipulation that each trip must start and finish from the UK. Some policies offer 90 days per trip. Beyond that, then single trip cover is needed. The fact he had a motorcycle accident is irrelevant as they still wouldn't cover if he'd been run over by a bus or had a heart attack.
  4. Clearly the OP has been in Thailand so long that he has taken on Thai characteristics, i.e no concept of the value of time ????
  5. Just got my Electricity bill from MEA. Usage was light at 115 KWh and the total was 442 Baht inc VAT. The same 115 KWh usage here in the UK at current prices of £00.76 per KWh would have been £87.40 or 3,496 Baht (at 40 Baht/1 £). Add the standing charge of £00.44 per day then that's a total equivalent of 4,024 Baht for the same energy over the month - about 900% more! Those in the UK are being screwed rotten right now. OK, so there is currently a credit of £66 per month off UK bills but that does little to help many users (and will be clawed back in the future).
  6. I was just thinking the same. How about some shaming from a hidden camera and posted all over TikTok, Facebook etc. That will get their attention. Might not do the applicant's prospects much good (unless anonymous) but would surely be interesting to see the <deleted> storm unfold. Just a thought. Anyone?
  7. CBDC is scary for the levels of control and tracking it will give governments and central banks. After not long, it will surely be linked to a social credit score and climate score resulting in restriction of previous freedoms. This particularly in the west. In Thailand, will it work? What about all the corruption money if it replaces cash? Too easily traceable and the ledger record of every single transaction would be incriminating.
  8. Nobody knows if he had cash at home. A retired engineer unlikely to be involved in a cash business. Try getting £20K GBP out of a UK bank account these days - almost impossible! Carrying it in cash by plane carries a risk of seizure by UK authorities if detected (unless you have withdrawal receipt/statement) or possible theft in transit too. Girlfriend could have paid for a hired hit for some reason (likely financial if so). 50/50 in my opinion as to whether a hired hit or mistaken identity. Are the Thai cops really bothered about investigating? Not likely. RIP Mr Neil.
  9. Good move. Price is a little high but for that you'll get good service and if any problems with fitting you should have come back to get them to make another. I have been using the silicone/rubber nightguards for over 25 years. Used to get them made in the UK but for a long time have been getting new ones from my local dentist in Bangkok (about 2,500 Baht IIRC). Grinding teeth is a bigger problem that many realise, 1) it wears enamel 2) and worse, as in my case, it caused hairline cracks in a number of my molars. This led to infections in one and I was too late getting treatment so had to have it extracted and an implant fitted. Hope your solution works well - which it should.
  10. Almost certainly. Any foreigner in Thailand seems to be considered a "tourist".
  11. False hope! Hope is all the developers have in selling their overpriced shoe boxes. Doubt very much that there will be a mass purchasing spree by the Chinese with the state of their economy after the last 3 years.
  12. Nothing to worry about. Simply get to France. Paddle halfway across the English Channel and call the coastguard. They'll send border force to come collect you, house you and give you free NHS treatment as required. Oh. Only one problem, you're British so don't qualify. Even though you might have paid significant British taxes all your life and likely still are paying.
  13. Is there a single mention of the police in this story? Most western countries the police would already have arrested any and all in the alleged rape. Did she even report it? No excuse for sex without consent, even if high on drugs or alcohol.
  14. Good practice but not always possible or convenient. You may have a few 20s, a 500 or two and some 1,000s. Your fare comes to 100 Baht and the driver has insufficient change. Then what? Nice big tip? It's for this reason I select a western credit (not debit) card as payment. Also. if any dispute simple to raise a chargeback.
  15. What is it they accused you of doing? Just don't see how a new rule can be applied retrospectively. What's the full story? Bad history? Seems like you upset someone.
  16. The screenshot from the OP clearly shows that the website owner blocked the country (TH) via Cloudflare. AFAIK Currys UK do not deliver to Thailand. Therefore no need to show website in that country. As I posted on another thread, as a website owner that does not derive revenue from certain countries, then blocking will stop hackers from trying malicious activities. In OP's case all he has to do is use a UK based VPN to view Currys.co.uk It can also stop fraudulent card purchases though 3DS and address verification stops that nowadays. As a merchant, we can block card transactions from any country already.
  17. Will the driver always have change?
  18. Just no longer worth the hassle and headaches. Too much supply and too little demand. Invest the money elsewhere and do some other past time.
  19. Go to Play and search "grab". Select install and follow the setup instructions. Can either use cash or card. I set my American Express card for payments and it works perfectly in Thailand and Cambodia.
  20. @Roger That is on the right track. If a service or website does not typically serve a particular country then, from a web host's point of view, it can make sense to block that country. I have used Cloudflare in the past for my sites and they offer the option to block access from any country. Most hackers seem to come from a certain concentrated group of countries and will often try to breach a website or server (we can see from our server logs). When I'm in Thailand I need to access a couple of websites for business which are blocked to me unless I login via my UK VPN. Those sites would never normally have any customers or users outside of the UK.
  21. My condo is 13 years old and only once has the common area fees been increased and that was after the first year when the original fees were unrealistically low. Since then, no increase at all. The building is well run by Plus management and the co-owners are a decent, educated group. First AGM was packed with co-owners. Since then, it's dwindled and now only about 12 of us attend (out of 99 units). Just 3 foreign owners in our building. In recent years we've had a number of special assessments to cover one off things such as equipment replacements and pool deck replacement. I would rather increase fees than have special assesments every year. I had suggested this at the AGM but, Thais being Thais, they just won't accept it. What they don't seem to get is that we pay for it at one time or another! For me, I would rather just make one payment a year but I gues Thais don't budget even when they know fees are payable by end of January each year.
  22. The Brexit vote was determined in June 2016. The date that Brexit came into full effect and UK immigration rules changed, was 1st January 2021. At this time EU citizens had to apply to live in the UK unless they already had settled status. Quite some time after the first wave of Covid-19 pandemic which started in early 2020 forcing workplace closures and lockdowns. This caused many citizens around the world to flee to their home countries and travel restrictions prevented many from returning.
  23. It wasn't how many EU citizens left the UK when Brexit happened. Many left during the pandemic BEFORE Brexit happened.
  24. Clearly, a great many because they are not able to return now. That is why many did not return to better employment options.
  25. Depends on whether or not they filed claim before leaving during Covid. Many didn't, which is why they are not able to return to work.
