  1. Numerous things that hotel booking sites do to get you to book. Statements such as: Only x rooms left at this price Last booked x minutes ago x number of people looking at this room now I suspect, but cannot prove, that they use website cookies or account info, and then when you go back to book the price has increased as they know you are interested in booking a certain hotel/room. As for booking direct with the hotel for a better price then unlikely as the booking websites have strong agreements/rules with the properties in exchange for taking a certain amount of rooms or to market the property. I use Agoda a lot simply for the convenience. Used to get Thai Airways Royal Orchid Plus ROP miles but they quitely dropped that since late 2020. Once, in Hua Hin in 2019 was at a hotel booked through Agoda and wanted to stay another few nights. Asked at front desk and offered to pay cash there and then. They said NO please book on Agoda! I said Agoda shows unavailable, they said "we'll open bookings again" so I booked and paid on Agoda. Would have thought they wanted a simple cash transaction but No. TIT.
  2. At this rate of decline, it will soon be faster to obtain Thai citizenship than renew a British passport.
  3. Didn't he know that having all these guns and grenades is officially reserved only for Thais?
  4. Tubeless tyres are easier to fit than tubes. No special tools needed. An air compressor to inflate and a small amount of lubricant to help the bead seat on the rim. Rims, whether tubed or tubeless, should be protected when using tyre levers (or machinery). Used to be my job.
  5. Came back in on Saturday night and noticed overhead signs for "Fast Track" on way to immigration. It seems to be between the two different immigration halls. Didn't pass it and don't know the requirements to use it. Suspect first/business class boarding pass needed.
  6. Totally normal that an AirBnB host/owner/manager in Bangkok will not do a TM30 for you. Likely they don't know what it is or just can't be bothered. You cannot do it yourself. Unless you are renting for more than 30 days it is unlawful if they don't have a hotel licence too. Many will not be declaring taxes so are afraid of authorities. Having said that, if you do need a TM30 for immigration purposes (extension or conversion) then either stay at a hotel or get a long term rental with proper paperwork and an owner who will do TM30 for you.
  7. I get around it by using a spare phone with Google translate to read the Thai screen text and translate to English. I haven't found a better way (other than learning to read Thai).
  8. Spare change to these drivers. They likely consider it nothing more than a toll fee for using the road as a race track. If I was fortunate enough to afford a McLaren, I wouldn't want to drive it on Thai roads.
  9. Child's and child's father's Thai ID cards and Tabian Baan will almost certainly be required if using an agent too.
  10. My Cambodian GF has exactly same history as the OP's friend. Lived in Thailand most of her life and 2 children from former Thai partner. Her passport was full of stamps and extensions and no space for any more. Got a new passport this year and Non-O for supporting Thai children. Agent in Pattaya was very helpful getting her a 1 year extension and multi re-entry permit.
  11. My step mum paid £10 to get there. Cost a lot more to come back. From her personal effects I've got the steamer trunk. Quite some history.
  12. Far too sensible. It would never be possible.
  13. There are a great many people in the UK right now who are fed up with living there. For one reason or another (financial, family, work or health) they are not able to relocate to a place they would rather be.
  14. No surprise Chomper would jump on this one. So, @Chomper Higgot let's hear how YOU would solve this problem where the "government has failed"? Or, maybe you don't see it as a problem and the borders should be open for all? Come on please...
  15. Straight to jail for life is the only suitable sentence.
  16. In hundreds of entries over the last 25 years cannot say that I have ever had any unfriendly officers or even been questioned at all. It's nearly always, hello, scan fingers, take picture, stamp, stamp and thank you from me. Job done. Earlier this year on doing away with TM6 I was simply asked "are you staying at your condo address?" And that was all. No need for them to be friendly or rude. Just do the job efficiently!
  17. There's an easy way for immigration officials to avoid criticism and that's simply to open all counters (in and out) and get the staff to process passengers quickly. Is it really beyond their ability? They know the flight schedules and when it's likely to be busy <deleted>!
  18. There was a lengthy thread on Nirun last year. A friend of my GF had a room at Nirun. Big room and it was nice inside. It was just getting to the room. The approach, the lift lobby and then the hallway with all the security grills on the doors. Resembled a prison. People around there were ok but I never walked in at night.
  19. Closed both my Thai and UK PayPal accounts. No need for their nonsense. In the last 9 months, not missed PP at all. Good riddance!
  20. Virtually all the Thai property owners I've ever met, acquired their property/land from family, owned in the family, from many, many decades past. Would be interesting to know the figure on actual new purchases of land such as the 1 Rai (amount proposed for foriegners) for self building by Thais. This of course, excepting the purchase of moo baans and condos. Very few I suggest.
  21. I drink Sangson and Coke Zero and love it but find that after 1 small bottle get the munchies and the Grab Food app gets used for a large KFC with large fries ???? No weight loss here.
  22. We built up a platform of 1 Rai to build a house and garden etc. and our remaining 9 Rai was planted with oil palm. It paid it's way for sure as a local tended it for us. We divorced some time ago so not sure what the ex-wife is doing with the land now.
  23. No mention of what "metal" was stolen but nuts would be low value steel. In the UK there has been a huge problem with cable theft for the more valuable copper content. Wouldn't be surprised if that becomes a thing here. In the UK the authorities imposed rules on scrap metal dealers requiring ID and recording all purchases and only sending payment into bank accounts (rather than cash) for scrap meatl transactions.
  24. Had a neighbouring land owner try this with our land about 15 years ago before we started to develop it (was originally rice field). Mysteriously, the concrete marker pegs could no longer be located and neighbour had planted out his land and part of ours, with oil palm trees. I thought something was amiss as trees that I thought were ours, had been chopped down. We called in the land office and they sent out survey team with GPS locators and placed in new pegs. We got about 7 metres of our land back. We then built a large embankment on that side of the property. End of issue.
  25. disk defragmentation does not free up space or delete files. It simply moves data around on the HDD to speed up system. It's largely redunadant on recent PCs that used SSD disks (the OPs WIN7 is likely to be running HDD).
