SEARCH FOR LAND OWNER
soi3eddie replied to bobholds's topic in Real Estate, Housing, House and Land Ownership
You can ask neighbouring residents. They will almost certainly know. There may be a way to ask land department too. -
lost retirement visa, now on overstay
soi3eddie replied to Joinaman's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Sorry for the situation mentioned by the op. A shame for the elderly gentlemen. "visa" agents don't seem too concerned on advising about 90 day reports or re-entry permits. A simple 1,000 Baht re-entry permit would have saved a whole lot of hurt and further expense. Best to leave the country immediately and come back with a new Non-O and start the extension process again. -
A report from a few years in the future says that for some reason it has been proven now that foreigners actually don't want to own land in Thailand. This because not a single foreigner had taken advantage of the generous foreigner land ownership scheme that only required 40 million Baht invested in Thailand.

Simple and reliable tip. If you see a restaurant packed out with Thais then that's where you want to be. Even better if they are queuing to get a seat. It's likely to be good food at affordable prices.

Right on this very page, there's an advert for Emirates. Clicking on the link took me to a page for November dates. The prices are virtually double pre-pandemic. Few are going to be paying that during these hard times. Not neccessarily Thailand's fault but this is a global situation. Little chance of any real upturn in economies for the foreseeable future. In the UK for sure so many people are struggling to pay rent, mortgages and bills to even contemplate travel to anywhere.

Apparently it's because the route does not raise enough revenue from high fare passengers in business class (not sure they had/have many first class cabins on their planes). After retiring all their 747s during the pandemic, BA are using more of their bigger planes on more profitable routes. Why isn't Bangkok as profitable to BA? Probably due to lack of high paying business travellers doing trade deals here in the Kingdom. Likely, not many "high quality" tourists too to pay for biz class. BA are set to review restarting the route at end of March 2023.

Bangkok announces air pollution curbing measures
soi3eddie replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Easy to blame mostly petrol clean and modern cars that give independence and freedom. The real culprits are ancient City buses spewing diesel fumes, factories making chemicals and uncontrolled agricultural burning blowing over the city. -
In March 2022 I rented an ADV150 from the Mr A. Car and bike rentals on the corner of Soi 61. Mr.A Car Motorbike Bicycles For Rent 081 857 3433 https://maps.app.goo.gl/qMZGMtvLvzu41aEVA Was good bike and fair price. No rip off.

Benefits of Returning to UK with a Thai family?
soi3eddie replied to FrankThePlumber's topic in UK & Europe Topics and Events
Really? My Thai wife (now ex) came to the UK on a Fiance visa in 2001 and we married immediately. Got temporary leave to remain for 1 year and was able to work. Got national insurance number etc. Next year got indefinite leave to remain and British citizenship by 2005. Shockingly easy and only about £800 in total at that time. Of course, now is so much more difficult for many reasons fair or unfair. Would not do it now. -
Benefits of Returning to UK with a Thai family?
soi3eddie replied to FrankThePlumber's topic in UK & Europe Topics and Events
Many potential issues to consider and they depend on a lot of factors: What part of the UK do you intend to live? Public housing - What do you mean by that? You won't get a council house if that's what you mean Does your wife have settled status in the UK? Indefinite leave to remain or citizenship? A settlement visa is expensive and takes a long time to obtain Education at British schools is not universally good and depends on area. Good areas are oversubscribed and you may not get a choice of school Your wife may not like living in the UK - then what? Thais can get very homesick being away from family and friends Summer weather in the UK can be lovely; but dark, cold, damp winters? No thanks! The UK is now extremely expensive to enjoy life. Can you get a good job or already wealthy? So many things to consider. Others here will likely add their comments. Good luck whatever you choose. -
Flying tomorrow LHR-BKK on one of the new B777 planes with the first class cabin. Did same in August too. As it's a UK school holiday week ahead, the flight is totally full. On last check the roundtrip economy tickets were about £1,600 (but now sold out). The planes running BKK/LHR are all the new B777s - HS-TTA, HS-TTB and HS-TTC. Pretty much same interior as the older 777 300ERs. As British Airways are not currently flying BKK and EVA are only flying about 4 times weekly, it's no surprise that Thai Airways are so busy and prices so high.

Insurance for Driving Thai Girlfirends Car
soi3eddie replied to Steve80's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Really best to check with the insurer. When we got our Hilux Vigo with first class insurance in 2005, the insurer told us that for me to be covered I had to get a Thai driver licence. Driving with foreign licence and IDP was not satisfactory for them so that prompted me to get the Thai licence. -
First went to Saxophone in 2000 and have had some great nights there. Most of the musicians and bands are really talented. Always a great vibe. Snack food ok too.

Video: Pick-up driver ends up in the klong after overtaking at speed
soi3eddie replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
Couldn't see the make of the white pick-up truck. It floated well for a while. Was it a Toybota? -
Hasn't this been debated at length many times before? I suggest that individuals make their own decisions based on their needs, desires and circumstances. I did and it worked out well for me without needing to ask others.

The statement was that benefits paid to claimants go back in to the local economy. That's not always the case.
-
Not necessarily true when the housing benefit paid out goes to an overseas landlord.

If you can't afford to support yourself and family then don't have children.

But you are missing the point. In the UK, if you work you can also get lots of benefits! A Pakistani immigrant neigbour of mine - very pleasant chap - in far west London brought his young wife in (right to family life law), spat out 4 kids in 10 years. Of course, neither she nor the kids could work. He worked 37 hours per week at a menial job paying low salary and paying virtually no taxes, and that led to an avalanche of welfare payments and housing benefit. Naturally, the kids were all born in an NHS hospital and go to state school at tax payers' expense. How does this benefit the country? Broken Britain? And, just for good measure; hard working English friends of ours had their son in same nursery as our son but they lived in the next village. When it came to primary school place they were told that their son was number one on the waiting list at the excellent school. Because it was not their nearest school they had no priority. Some time later they inquired as to whether their son had a school place. Now they were told their son was number 4 on the wait list. How could this be? Oh, an immigrant family who just arrived (and never contributed taxes) had got priority over their son. How can this be right? Our friends' son never got to go to the same good school. Maybe now, some here can see the gist of the issues in the UK.

Call Thai Airways ticketing at least 48 hours before first travel and ask them to add "special assistance" to each leg of your travel. You may need to call their Bangkok number to do this. They will then either have a wheelchair/buggy service to/from the plane. This is a no cost service. We are travelling TG next week and have this on our booking for mum and uncle.
