Nets are not permitted by many juristic persons. I've had the scourge of pigeons on my Bangkok balcony. Once, I was away for 7 months and came back to find pigeon nests with squabs. Pigeons need to land and perch. I put plastic pigeon spikes (brought from UK) on my railings and ledge below. Also an owl and wind chimes. When away for long times drape a net over deck chairs and clothes dryer inside the balcony so they can't land and roost. Seems effective as no return for a few years. Pigeons will always return to where they are familiar with. Break that cycle and it lessens the problem. Cleaning up pigeon droppings is relatively easy but messy - just use lots of water to soften, wash away and keep dust down.

If Mr Heinecke thinks that hotels need to charge more then surely they will. Hotel pricing is driven by costs and the market (supply/demand). No artificial support needed to generate more profits for him! Is he saying publicly that there should be dual pricing for foreigners? This is just plain wrong and will backfire on him and the country if they pander to his greedy non-sense. Especially when everything needs to be done to attract travellers in this recession. If I knew which hotels he's involved with, I would surely boycott them.

British man sentenced for rape in UK flees to Thailand
soi3eddie replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Bad move on his part, both in comitting the crime and fleeing while on bail. Surprised that bail conditions did not include removal of passport. When caught in Thailand (or neigbouring countries) the conditions while waiting deportation will be far less comfortable than jail in the UK. Let's see how quickly he is located verses a certain energy drink heir who fled after a car crash! -
Nice work if there was a 1 Baht coin on each of those krathongs. Or maybe kids went swimming to get the money first ????

'Incorrect' Name on Bangkok Airways Ticket Booking
soi3eddie replied to siftasam's topic in Chiang Mai
You have not entered "incorrectly". Can't see you having any problem as your First (Christian) and Last (Surname) names are correctly entered. I have two middle names and have never used them on any flight bookings (though not flown Bangkok Airways). Never had any issue at all. Why not call the airline reservations number and ask? -
Some tyres seem to track better. Just my experience over the years. Some have different profiles or hard/soft compounds. Thinking more back to my days riding sports bikes.
-
Under or over inflated tyres make it different. Under inflated and a bike wallows around. Over inflated can make the ride harsh and track differently. Just my experience. Within +-5 PSI should be OK. Can depend on the bike whether sports or scooter.
-
Quality tires (Pirreli or Michelin or even OEM) and correct tire pressures make all the difference to comfort, handling and safety. A digital pressure guage off Lazada is not expensive.

Numerous things that hotel booking sites do to get you to book. Statements such as: Only x rooms left at this price Last booked x minutes ago x number of people looking at this room now I suspect, but cannot prove, that they use website cookies or account info, and then when you go back to book the price has increased as they know you are interested in booking a certain hotel/room. As for booking direct with the hotel for a better price then unlikely as the booking websites have strong agreements/rules with the properties in exchange for taking a certain amount of rooms or to market the property. I use Agoda a lot simply for the convenience. Used to get Thai Airways Royal Orchid Plus ROP miles but they quitely dropped that since late 2020. Once, in Hua Hin in 2019 was at a hotel booked through Agoda and wanted to stay another few nights. Asked at front desk and offered to pay cash there and then. They said NO please book on Agoda! I said Agoda shows unavailable, they said "we'll open bookings again" so I booked and paid on Agoda. Would have thought they wanted a simple cash transaction but No. TIT.

Time Lag in obtaining a New UK Passport
soi3eddie replied to Pompey Lad 1938's topic in UK & Europe Topics and Events
At this rate of decline, it will soon be faster to obtain Thai citizenship than renew a British passport. -

Tubeless tyres are easier to fit than tubes. No special tools needed. An air compressor to inflate and a small amount of lubricant to help the bead seat on the rim. Rims, whether tubed or tubeless, should be protected when using tyre levers (or machinery). Used to be my job.

AirBnb host tells me they never make TM30
soi3eddie replied to daejung's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Totally normal that an AirBnB host/owner/manager in Bangkok will not do a TM30 for you. Likely they don't know what it is or just can't be bothered. You cannot do it yourself. Unless you are renting for more than 30 days it is unlawful if they don't have a hotel licence too. Many will not be declaring taxes so are afraid of authorities. Having said that, if you do need a TM30 for immigration purposes (extension or conversion) then either stay at a hotel or get a long term rental with proper paperwork and an owner who will do TM30 for you. -
I get around it by using a spare phone with Google translate to read the Thai screen text and translate to English. I haven't found a better way (other than learning to read Thai).

Visa Options for Laos Passport Holder

Child's and child's father's Thai ID cards and Tabian Baan will almost certainly be required if using an agent too. -
Visa Options for Laos Passport Holder
soi3eddie replied to jaiyenyen's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
My Cambodian GF has exactly same history as the OP's friend. Lived in Thailand most of her life and 2 children from former Thai partner. Her passport was full of stamps and extensions and no space for any more. Got a new passport this year and Non-O for supporting Thai children. Agent in Pattaya was very helpful getting her a 1 year extension and multi re-entry permit. -
My step mum paid £10 to get there. Cost a lot more to come back. From her personal effects I've got the steamer trunk. Quite some history.

Far too sensible. It would never be possible.

There are a great many people in the UK right now who are fed up with living there. For one reason or another (financial, family, work or health) they are not able to relocate to a place they would rather be.

No surprise Chomper would jump on this one. So, @Chomper Higgot let's hear how YOU would solve this problem where the "government has failed"? Or, maybe you don't see it as a problem and the borders should be open for all? Come on please...

In hundreds of entries over the last 25 years cannot say that I have ever had any unfriendly officers or even been questioned at all. It's nearly always, hello, scan fingers, take picture, stamp, stamp and thank you from me. Job done. Earlier this year on doing away with TM6 I was simply asked "are you staying at your condo address?" And that was all. No need for them to be friendly or rude. Just do the job efficiently!
