why does my hard drive keep filling up?
soi3eddie replied to BananaBandit's topic in IT and Computers
It's a long time since I used WIN7 but is it still receiving updates? Maybe doing a "disk clean" up of "system files" in "windows administrative tools" might remove a good few GB of space. Especially if you have never done that before. I also use CCLEANER FREE which can essentially do the same thing and more. Can also disable startup applications for faster boot times. -
why does my hard drive keep filling up?
soi3eddie replied to BananaBandit's topic in IT and Computers
You say it "keeps filling up". What do you do to create more space again? What types of files are filling it up? -
I like the cheese and spinach toastie. Often out of stock though so always happy to find them available.

Agreed. Normally good all over. Today (Sat 29th Oct) took two bolts. First from Nong Nooch Gardens to Dusit Thani and the driver was excellent. Very helpful loading my family and wheelchair etc. Took best route to avoid the back up to beach road (Bikini Run) and used lots of side sois rather than North Pattaya Road traffic. Same fare as quoted and he got a good tip. Second bolt was about two hours ago from Soi 3 to 3rd Road near Xcyte. Driver very friendly and knew all the back sois. Very fast and smooth trip. Interestingly he was driving and Isuzu D-Max pick-up truck with extended cab (not 4 door). Very happy with bolt today and both arrived within 3 minutes of booking. Finding destinations with bolt is never a problem as can place the pin right on top of where one wants to go. The main issue I ever have with bolt is either unavailability or long/inaccurate wait times for a vehicle

I bought a new Toyota Hilux Vigo in 2005 and drove from Nakhon Si Thammarat to Loei and back via downtown Bangkok with no plates. Even got stopped for speeding (legit) and having no plates was no issue at all. Getting white plates takes minutes at DLT. It seems to me that dealers are just too lazy to do the paperwork promptly.

If you don't have the skills, or fear, riding a motorcycle in Thailand then don't ride. Simples.

Two great hornbills released into the wild in Lampang
soi3eddie replied to snoop1130's topic in Isaan News
The locals are preparing for the next hunting expedition. Much tastier than Gai Baan. On a more serious note, I have witnessed these birds in the wild in both Khao Yai, Thailand and in Southern Myanmar. Truly amazing to hear and see them in the wild. I hope that they are prolific in expanding in numbers. -
You should be able to access records. How many AGMs have you attended? What is your relationship with manager and committee members like? Without naming project, what are your specific concerns? Amounts involved? Have you asked WHY they are refusing access to records? Remind them, that as your JPM they are in your employ (although commitee could be in cahoots of wrongdoing). Thankfully, after 13 years in my project, all has been good though no body can predict the future. I have been asked to join comitee but declined as too much work - thouigh may reconsider. Please share.

The damage done by a hack to your Google account can be catastrophic. Imagine you're a YouTuber, a business with GoogleAds, with Adsense, analytics, online documents, presentations, spreadsheets or similar. A hacker could delete and ruin your whole business or income stream forever. 2FA just makes sense. It is not a burden for the protection it gives.

Israeli man arrested at Phuket Airport with 55 firearm bullets
soi3eddie replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
Aren't most male and female Israelis required to serve national military service? They would like be very accustomed to carrying, handling and using ammunition. How he came to have it in Thailand was not stated. Still, he should have known that there was a good chance of it being discovered but likely he didn't see it as an issue. The Thais seem to be quite good at scanning checked-in baggage these days. I was reported by Thai authorities to UK customs who were waiting for me and my checked-in baggage 2 months ago. My suspected crime was carrying ashes of a deceased friend back to the UK. Looked like organic matter on the scan - as I had all the paperwork there was no issue. My point being, the Thais do scan well and will report suspicious items. Just try getting a power bank through! No chance!!! -
That's what I worried about and delayed turning on 2FA (referred above as 2-step). Actually it's no issue as it's the device that gets authorised and changing sim does not require re-verification. Many more websites and companies will require this soon and Google seems to do a better job of it than most others.

From the order quoted by @Lite Beerabove it does seem that the IO got it wrong. Good luck with trying to get it corrected. IMO Chaeng Wattana are usually the straightest and most professional of offices. I never let my account go 1 Satang less than the stated amount ever. This avoids any chance of an issue such as the above. Might not be fair but arguing unlikely to be successful. Op, go back on the date they stated and be warned for the future.

You can ask neighbouring residents. They will almost certainly know. There may be a way to ask land department too. -
lost retirement visa, now on overstay
soi3eddie replied to Joinaman's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Sorry for the situation mentioned by the op. A shame for the elderly gentlemen. "visa" agents don't seem too concerned on advising about 90 day reports or re-entry permits. A simple 1,000 Baht re-entry permit would have saved a whole lot of hurt and further expense. Best to leave the country immediately and come back with a new Non-O and start the extension process again. -
A report from a few years in the future says that for some reason it has been proven now that foreigners actually don't want to own land in Thailand. This because not a single foreigner had taken advantage of the generous foreigner land ownership scheme that only required 40 million Baht invested in Thailand.

Simple and reliable tip. If you see a restaurant packed out with Thais then that's where you want to be. Even better if they are queuing to get a seat. It's likely to be good food at affordable prices.

Right on this very page, there's an advert for Emirates. Clicking on the link took me to a page for November dates. The prices are virtually double pre-pandemic. Few are going to be paying that during these hard times. Not neccessarily Thailand's fault but this is a global situation. Little chance of any real upturn in economies for the foreseeable future. In the UK for sure so many people are struggling to pay rent, mortgages and bills to even contemplate travel to anywhere.

Apparently it's because the route does not raise enough revenue from high fare passengers in business class (not sure they had/have many first class cabins on their planes). After retiring all their 747s during the pandemic, BA are using more of their bigger planes on more profitable routes. Why isn't Bangkok as profitable to BA? Probably due to lack of high paying business travellers doing trade deals here in the Kingdom. Likely, not many "high quality" tourists too to pay for biz class. BA are set to review restarting the route at end of March 2023.

Bangkok announces air pollution curbing measures
soi3eddie replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Easy to blame mostly petrol clean and modern cars that give independence and freedom. The real culprits are ancient City buses spewing diesel fumes, factories making chemicals and uncontrolled agricultural burning blowing over the city.
