I suspect that they also add the 10% service charge first and then charge VAT at 7% on that too (so more like 17.7% extra). A lot of hidden fees and charges. Rarely presented clearly when booking on certain platforms.

Yellow book troubles reporting to DOPA
soi3eddie replied to Billy Bloggs's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
My experience on getting the yellow book here in Phaya Thai, Bangkok was slow. I got the impression that they really just couldn't be bothered. Yes, they knew what to do as they showed me documents from others who had the yellow book. It took 3 visits over nearly 3 months in 2019 to satisfy all their requirements. Most bizarre was a complete immigration record of all my entries and exits from the country (they even gave me a copy of someone elses to prove it was possible). Quite what that shows beats me as what if it was my first ever entry? I had a Non-O visa and retirement extension already. Good luck to the OP and hope your efforts are fruitful. I'd say without a Thai GF helping, they would have just blanked me. These officials don't deserve their positions IMO. I did ask GF if some extra fee for them would help but the answer was no. -
Yellow book troubles reporting to DOPA

Not the case if in a city such as Bangkok. I took my condo Juristic Person manager and GF as witnesses. There is no village head here. -
Not good. I looked this morning for LHR-BKK-LHR with THAI in economy for October 2023 and the cheapest was £960. Normally, booking one year ahead gets a good deal. Those days are over! Even if BA resume the route, I suspect prices will not come down. Hope I'm wrong.

No problem here. I'm on Lloyds personal and business banking everyday. Using Chrome on legit Win10 (all always updated). No security issues. I just ran a SSL Server (security) test of Lloyds Online through SSLlabs and the results are here. Came back with A+ result.

Can't help you with the correct addressing as don't know the names in that area very well. What would advise is to use DHL or similar and clearly have your Thai phone number added. As important documents, then do not use regular or priority mail. A proper courier service will call you if any issues locating (rather than returning or binning the item).

Where was it said that Wise card is good for ATM usage? Wise's terms clearly set out costs involved in using their card. ATM in Thailand would have stated ATM fee before proceeding with transaction.

Yellow book troubles reporting to DOPA
soi3eddie replied to Billy Bloggs's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Here we go again, undoubtedly on the benefits on having a yellow book with many comments to follow. In your case, I would suggest that unless you have a similarly determined Thai fighting for you, then there is little to no chance of you ever getting your local amphur office to issue a yellow book. No matter who you complain to. -
Electric plane manufacturer takes off, receives worldwide orders
soi3eddie replied to Scott's topic in World News
Where is the location map for the airborne charging stations for all these electric planes? -
1) You are likely comparing buy vs sell rates so it will be quite different 2) Many place outside of Thailand charge a commission in addition to the exchange rate 3) The places in the terminals are often more convenient for those who only want a small amount of currency but don't want the hassle of searching out the best rate 4) The overheads (rent and fees) charged by the landlord - the airport - are likely very high. In addition, the airport may impose rules such as they have to remain open 24/7 even when few customers.

Told the Honda motorcycle dealer that unless he could get the bike properly registered with white plates and green book before collecting it then I'm not interested in buying. He said no problem and it was ready to ride away in 3 days. This in Feb 2020.

By motorycycle, the best possible route from Pattaya to say; Sukhumvit, Bangkok is highway 3 then 34. Motorcycles are not permitted on 7 (tollway) nor on the elevated section above 34 (Bangna-Trad). The route under the elevated Bangna-Trad is potholed and has lots, and lots of truck traffic at times. Need your wits about you on that!

Can anyone recco a good printer that is available in Thailand ?
soi3eddie replied to Pumpuynarak's topic in IT and Computers
You answered your own question. I ditched inkjets over 20 years ago. Now use brother laser printers. No soggy prints, no smudges, no blocked jets and toner seems to last years. This is the one I keep at my Bangkok condo. https://www.advice.co.th/product/laser-printer/laser/brother-hl-l2360dn Also available in wireless to connect via Wi-Fi. I think there is a newer model out now. -
You clearly qualify for assistance. Advise requesting now with your airline for a wheelchair (both ends of journey). My uncle and mother recently travelled with me from London to Bangkok. Uncle uses sticks due to dodgy knees while waiting for surgery, mother is 84 and walking 1000+ metres from the plane is too much. I spoke with Thai Airways and they booked wheelchairs each end of their roundtrip flight - there is no cost regardless of travel class though we were economy. We were met off the plane and they were given wheelchairs all the way through to the minivan transport I had booked. We were all taken through priority immigration (even me, sis and two nieces) which avoided standing in the big queues in the main hall. The staff were wonderful and even helped my sister get a sim card while waiting for baggage. On the return they were equally as good. Just one thing to warn about; it was not possible to check them in online - this due to the fact that the airline wants to assess the traveller's ability to board the plane unaided or not, and if in an exit row, can they open the door in emergency.

By the letter of the law yes. In reality the relatives would likely not even know what a TM30 is. As you will not be needing to go to immigration then don't even mention it. not an issue. Enjoy your holiday.

Immigration Bureau: Foreigners considerably Arrive in the Country
soi3eddie replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
What? No mention of "unfair criticism"? What has happened since pre-pandemic that is making things so bad - or even worse, than before at times? It seems to me that they have reduced the size of one of the main immigration halls and given oven part of it to "visa on arrival" applicants from sub-continent and other territories. Came in again last Saturday night at 10pm and it was a ghost town. Through in about 1 minute. Just wanted to get home after a long day so didn't explore. -
This is my pigeon detterent that has worked well for the last few years. Also installed spikes on the ledge below. They are clear plastic, can be cut to size easily and stuck on with velcro (if they might need removal) or, more permanently with a spot of silicone sealant. The owl was OK on it's own for a while but pigeons are clever and soon ignored it. Hence addition of the spikes.

1) UK marriage certificate? 2) UK utility bill or council tax bill?

AirBnb host tells me they never make TM30
soi3eddie replied to daejung's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Isn't it the visa extension applicant that gets the fine for non-filing or has their extension rejected if no TM30? Maybe some offices are more relaxed but can see the concern of the OP. I only ever do my TM30 (5 minutes online as registered) before annual renewal of extension. For those who aren't the housemaster they cannot file for themselves. -
฿14m temple lighting system in Nakhon Si Thammarat abandoned
soi3eddie replied to snoop1130's topic in Southern Thailand News
Now a replacement and better lighting system can be procured. Another 14M Baht plus inflation. Ka-ching for those in the project!
