New Banksy exhibition coming to Bangkok – without his consent
soi3eddie replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
I'll be going to see this, assuming it actually goes ahead. It would be great to see Banksy do some works related to Thailand ???? -

Second Booster - Thoughts on whether it is advisable or not?
soi3eddie replied to Longwood50's topic in COVID-19 Coronavirus
Both my mother (84) and uncle (78) have just had their 5th covid-19 shots. They are happy about it. I have had 3 shots and just invited for 4th shot (no thanks). Both of them on Moderna 5th shots were flu like (I had Moderna as 3rd shot no issues). They never suffered before. How many here would take 3rd, 4th or 5th covid vaccinations? -
Re-entry permit or not?
soi3eddie replied to Confuscious's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Only if it's a multi entry visa and you re-enter before the expiry of the visa. -
Drinking on an empty stomach is NEVER a good idea.
soi3eddie replied to bob smith's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Still craving attention me thinks. <deleted> OP @bob smithat least wait until 5pm to enjoy the sunset with your driink. That's what I normally "try" to do. -
RIP the Thai guy likely just going about his business trying to scrape a living. In my experience these motorcycle sidecars (salengs?) are a total menace on the roads. They are usually driven by the less well off as a means of utility transport for their business and family. The contraptions are often in poor condition, not safe and rarely, if ever, have rear lights. They will often make turns without indication let alone looking out for other traffic. Road safety skills are typically non-existent with these riders. It could be the case that the truck driver was speeding or not driving to the conditions. The truck driver's race is immaterial and who knows how many similar tragedies involving only Thais (or people from neighbouring countries) take place that never get reported in the press.

Good news at last. In recent times, the Emergency Decree has not been about Covid-19 as many here know. Whilst most of the rest of the world has gotten on with life, Thailand has dragged it's heels in the supposed name of Covid. What will happen if there are protests and demonstrations? Will the Emergency Decree be resumed? Or is Prawit made of sterner stuff than Prayut?

Worth it to buy new forks? Kawasaki 650R - 09
soi3eddie replied to Kawazaki650R's topic in Motorcycles in Thailand
The ONLY 2 reasons to replace front forks on a motorcycyle are: 1) Forks are bent 2) Forks are pitted/corroded Seals and oil are easily replaced. Head race bearings are not a reason to replace forks and new taper bearings are a perfect upgrade at low cost. When replacing fork seals be sure to fill with new oil at same volumn but viscosity can be thicker therefore giving more stability. -

How would the Police Officer know you had a new passport? Did he really ask to see your new passport and compare it to Driving Licence?

Wife is dead set on moving to London
soi3eddie replied to cyril sneer's topic in Marriage and Divorce
Better still show her parts of Brixton, Peckham, Camberwell, Tottenham, Leyton, Wood Green, Hackney and Mile End. That should put her off wanting to move to London. Real life not so glamourous after all. -
Desperate statements from TAT and Ministry of Tourism and Sports to save face. Visitor numbers will remain down due to high airfares and once in Thailand they will likely spend less. There will be the best high season since 2019 but nothing like it once was. Globally people are suffering from huge increases in the cost of living.

Battery dead in new “keyless go “ Honda Click 160
soi3eddie replied to MikaQ5's topic in Motorcycles in Thailand
I had same issue a couple of years ago on my ADV150. Simply bought a battery charger on Lazada and charged the battery overnight. Good to go after that. The battery is quite small so easy to discharge. -
Some flooded areas in Bangkok may be declared disaster zones
soi3eddie replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
If there is any flooding around National Stadium then that truly would be a disaster. I'm hoping that these floods don't escalate to the levels (or worse) than 2011. -
Public should not worry about new Omicron subvariants: DMSC
soi3eddie replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
When a government tells the public "not to panic" they know what they are doing and shaping anxieties further to control the populace into compliance of their rules. Here currently in the UK there is hardly ever any mention of Covid. Only news is invitations for over 65's to register and get theit FIFTH vaccination. My mum is getting hers on Saturday. -
Documents to buy used motorbike and change name?
soi3eddie replied to JeffersLos's topic in Motorcycles in Thailand
When the Honda dealer registered my new bike in 2020 I gave them the Pink ID, Yellow book, copy of my passport and Visa/extension. Not sure if the passport and visa were really required but it was first time the dealer had registered for a foreigner. Got the registration done and geeen book within 2 days and the dealer seemed surprised how easy it was (no reason why it should have been difficult IMO). I'd just ensure you have copies of all and it should be easy. Of course, different offices can do things differently. My case was DLT Morchit in Bangkok. -
I'm sure that you do have a "fantastic mechanic" and I don't doubt that there are places to get good service on your Chevy. My point was based on being able to find an equally capable mechanic elsewhere or upcountry if travelling or you move to live elsewhere. That is the reason why I would only consider Toyota or Isuzu as they are ubiquitous all over Thailand (and even neigbouring countries) so virtually all garages will know how to service, obtain parts and repair properly.

Flying the morning after visa expires?
soi3eddie replied to Adam219's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Go through immigration before midnight then if you are worried. -
Never rely on anyone (Thai or otherwise) for directions. Google maps and advance research (streetview) is the key. Never have any problems with that and I often find some hidden gems of places by looking at maps.

My 2 bed condo is not far from you. I pay government rate and have MEA bill in my name. These days I never pay more than 2,500 Baht a month and when there always have at least one A/C running. Watch a lot of TV and have hot water showers. My 3 x A/Cs are modern inverter types and I keep on 25c. YOU are being ripped off rotten. My advice is to MOVE.
