  1. Certainly the people I keep company with lead happy lives in Thailand. We all know how much better it is for us than being in the UK. How many here would prefer to be in the UK?
  2. Nothing to do with 10+ million increase in population since 1990? Nothing to do with immigration? What about immigrant birth rates vs British birth rates in the UK? There are other issues besides immigration closer to home too. Britain is broken and will never recover. That's why many here on TVF have chosen to relocate to Thailand or elsewhere for a happier life.
  3. I booked a Thai Airways award ticket through the Bangkok call centre number +6623561111 in September. Was a little surprised to receive ticket confirmation from the Chiang Mai Office (never called them). I have always found the main call centre phone usually answered promptly and staff helpful. No complaints here.
  4. GF told me yesterday a haicut for her teenage son was now 150 Baht. It looks like the days of the 100 Baht haircuts in Pattaya are over. Reminds me of the times when haircut used to cost 20 Baht in the village with a view of the rice fields and coconut trees. Clippers are availavle to buy on Lazada but not sure I would want to DIY.
  5. I can see CNN being banned on network providers in LOS. No big loss IMO. Who watches it anyway?
  6. As @DrJack54 says using an additional account can overcome the problem. If you have another account with some funds in to show you still had over the total required amount you may be OK. Your example is the reason thai I opened a second Thai account that has no debit card attached. I never let it fall below the 800K just to be on safe side. Depending on your IO and the fact it was just a few hours under the minimum you may be alright. Please report back for others here.
  7. No mention of Bitcoin from me. There is a move in many countries to electronic payments. I was in line at a BTS last month and the guy in front used his phone to pay by QR code. Contactless/NFC payments are commonplace in many countries and will surely gain popularity in Thailand. For me, I like the cash culture that still exists (but how long for) in Thailand. Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDC) will be forced upon many global citizens in the coming years.
  8. I bought my Honda ADV150 from Worldspeed in 2020. They always have a big stock of new bikes. The manager there was very helpful and spoke good English. Registration was easy with too - just 2 days. I paid by bank transfer and doubt that they would allow payment for a bike by card (if they did, would probably add a % charge).
  9. <deleted> - 1 in 7 Thais have a gun? 1 gun for every 7 Thais? Naturally some will have more than 1 gun. I would not take a chance. Never <deleted> off a Thai. You won't be the winner. Relax and enjoy life.
  10. Personally, if renting, as I do here in London, I would slide in a new secure lock (1-4,000 Baht). Done same in my Bangkok Condo that cannot be key copied. Keep the old lock/key and swap out when you leave. No need for insurance and enjoy total peace of mind. Simples no?
  11. Depends on whether you have a private internet router or shared WiFi. In my Bangkok Condo you would get 900/500 MBPs. In most shared environments you would get far,far less. Mine is 750 Baht/Month. You get what you pay for. Good luck.
  12. Yes. Agreed. But isn't the topic of this thread about Thai acceptance of a foreigner's card requiring proof of identity? Are they using contactless for foreigners withought having to show passports/ID?
  13. This site uses Cloudflare to distribute load, speed up pages and prevent DDOS attacks. Generally OK. I, and many here, would prefer not to rely on Thai internet "geeks" regarding internet access given their track record on delivering Thai govermental institution projects such as TM30 and 90 day reports. Online immigration appointment (Bangkok) booking has worked OK for me ,though not for others.
  14. Not long before they will want ID for cash acceptance too. Then no cash transactions. Great Reset anyone? In London, more places will no longer accept cash.
  15. Finding anywhere in LOS that accept AMEX is as rare as Rocking Horse <deleted> so fair play to BigC. At least, airline mileage/hotel points are credited.
  16. <deleted> that can be a pain in the <deleted>! Ps. Loving the censorship ????
  17. Real question is: Do Thais have to show their ID when making a purchase using a card? Never happened to me (Yet).
  18. Happened in my ex-wife's village too. Strange times then. More than a few. Nakhon Si Thammarat.
  19. 555 There's plenty of duplication and redundancy. No escape.
  20. Good point and my thoughts too. How could the west strike back without escalating to Thermonuclear War and major destruction? I'd rather be in Thailand than London. Can they wait 2 weeks please?
  21. Aren't the 3 Thai seasons: "roo doo Ron" Hot season "roo doo Fon" Rainy season "roo doo Naew" Cold season 3 seasons maybe but never really cold for us weterners. Thais will shiver and suffer at anything under 25C. Always makes me chuckle when I see Thais on the BTS wearing padded winter jackets when we are happy in shorts and T-shirt.
  22. Thailand is a more exotic and cheaper Spain for many here. Some great full English breakfasts in Bangkok and Pattaya for sure.
  23. Totally agree with you. If internet is so important (it is for me) then always be self sufficient with a phone and internet sim card or two. Hotel Wifi is often slow, drops out, can't connect or weak signal and that's before security implications if not using a VPN.
