NBTC excludes World Cup from ‘must have’ broadcast rule
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
This will lead to the quadrennial mad dash to negotiate a deal with FIFA, and find sponsors/funding just before kick-off. https://thethaiger.com/news/national/thailand-is-1-billion-baht-short-for-world-cup-2022-broadcasting-license- 1 reply

Deputy PM supports regulated cannabis use in Thailand
bamnutsak replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Most see it as regulated - licenses required to produce and sell, age limited, no public use, several other restrictions. Probably, with regards to youths, at least as well regulated as alcohol and tobacco. Now you may wish it were more regulated - that's a government task, or that regulations were universally enforced - that's a police issue. Sorry, what is this book? One of the shortest ever written? What are the titles of Chapters 1, 2 & 3? Can we get a book report from you? -
PM, Govt Warned To Not Repeat Mock Jail Sentence For Yingluck
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
All but one "conviction", for the rice scheme, hve been struck down by the courts, so any warnings should probably be issued to the judiciary. Of course, this begs the question of why these were lodged in the first place. Somewhat ironically, it was because she was pushing an "amnesty bill" for her brother, which got the yellows lathered up to shutdown Bangkok. -
Do you have to get a TIN? And file a return, even if all of the disability income is not taxed here in Thailand? How does he do this? Wire Transfer or Direct Deposit? Does he use this to qualify for the monthly income option on an extension of stay/retirement? Here is the thread mentioned... https://aseannow.com/topic/1322443-is-va-disability-compensation-not-taxed-under-new-law/ In that thread, the OP mentions that they accumulate several months of payments to an account in the U.S. and then transfer funds to Thailand.

PM Seeks Funding Solution for Digital Wallet Plan

Who is going to tell the PM that this idiotic idea is dead, and no "Weekend at Bernies" like effort will see it enacted. -
Constitutional Court accepts to consider disbanding Move Forward
bamnutsak replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Is this "Sedition"? Or some other "crime"? If so, why haven't they been charged? Seems like this will be difficult to prove. But the legal system here is fungible. -
A barrage? The government (PTP) made a bunch of promises, maybe eight-ish. Now the opposition is pointing out that little progress has been made on any of these. I'd hardly call this a "barrage". The PMs excuses were idiotic. Including a riff on the classic: "The dog ate my homework." He actually said the pollution problem wasn't as bad as last year, as if that's an accomplishment. Quel doofus.

Thai government plans 7% VAT on imported goods from May

This is exactly why this exemption exists in the first place. -
Thai government considers recriminalising cannabis
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
No. It is not. No clue why a few people keep repeating this mantra. Cannabis flower, regardless of THC content, was removed from the Narcotics list on 9 June 2022. No further stipulations were added, other than those regarding licenses to grow and sell, limitations (20 YO, pregnant), public use, no sales via vending machines, and a few others. It is legal to produce (with a license), sell (with a license), possess (over 20 YO, etc.), and consume. -

OK, now this is confusing. Which law? "Potentially"? Minister Chonlan seems confused. -
Big Joke woes: Warrant issued for money laundering
bamnutsak replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Khaosod English · Deputy National Police Chief Pol. Gen. Surachate Hakparn, AKA "Big Joke," turned himself in at Bangkok's Tao Poon police station on Tuesday evening. The Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant after he failed to respond to three summonses for money laundering related to illegal online gambling. The questioning process took over an hour. When he was departing, Big Joke told the press that everything was now in the legal process of filing accusations. When asked about the rumour that he denied fingerprinting, Pol. Gen. Surachet replied, "I followed normal procedures." He also stated that, as long as the court has not given a verdict, he is still considered innocent. I'm surprised the Powers-that-Be didn't burn this house down, or otherwise make it disappear. Most vestiges of the 1932 action have been erased, paved over or vanished. https://www.khaosodenglish.com/featured/2017/04/14/1932-revolution-plaque-removed/ https://www.reuters.com/article/idUSKBN23V023/ But a good poke in the eye by Thanatorn.

JK Rowling in ‘arrest me’ challenge over hate crime law
bamnutsak replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Wouldn't it be better to wait until she has allegedly violated this new statute before arresting here? Has any of her "speech" to date violated this new law. Why does she want to be arrested if she hasn't done anything wrong. Strange behavior from this woman based on the fact that one of the major undertones of the HP arc is discrimination within the fictional "wizarding community". She comes across as a bit of a fraud. -

https://edition.cnn.com/2023/09/08/politics/biden-administration-social-media-lawsuit/index.html https://www.cbsnews.com/news/supreme-court-government-pressure-social-media-free-speech/ Interesting that RFK Jr. is free to espouse his beliefs on a wide variety of platforms: Joe Rogan, this CNN interview, hundreds of other interviews and podcasts, yet somehow the Biden Administration interfering. Trump signs executive order targeting social media companies President Donald Trump signed an executive order targeting social media companies on Thursday, days after Twitter called two of his tweets “potentially misleading.” https://edition.cnn.com/2020/05/28/politics/trump-twitter-social-media-executive-order/index.html https://www.govinfo.gov/link/cpd/executiveorder/13925 The move was widely seen by critics as retaliation against Twitter’s decision to slap fact-checking labels on the president’s tweets. The order came two days after Twitter, for the first time, added warning links to two of Trump’s tweets, inviting readers to “get the facts.” -

Police reform may be easier than everyone thinks
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Can't/won't happen here. No political will, no institutional will, and the public is kind of complicit, and the corruption goes to the top, tippy-top, higher. https://successfulsocieties.princeton.edu/sites/g/files/toruqf5601/files/Policy_Note_ID126.pdf -
trump posted seventy-seven (77) times on Easter day, in what some (Two Corinthians?) are calling a "meltdown". Easter is a celebration of light over darkness. Yet, Donald Trump spent the day spewing lies, hate, and anger while likening himself to Christ. Trump posted 77 times to his social media site, attacking perceived enemies in all caps with words like EVIL, SICK, DERANGED, CORRUPT, and CROOKED. While Biden went to Mass on Saturday and spent the weekend with his children and grandchildren, Trump went full huckster, selling Bibles for $59.99 and comparing himself to Jesus — as he gears up for a criminal trial involving hush-money payments to an adult film star days before the 2016 election. https://www.inquirer.com/opinion/editorials/donald-trump-religion-easter-hate-jesus-bible-division-20240401.html

The airline will provide enhanced connectivity from its main hub in Kuala Lumpur with new direct flights to MLE, DAD and CNX with tickets available for sale beginning 22 March 2024. The airline will commence its daily flights to MLE beginning 1 August 2024; daily flights to DAD beginning 24 September 2024 and five times weekly flights to CNX beginning 15 August 2024. https://www.malaysiaairlines.com/th/th/mh-media-centre-old/news-releases/2024/strategic-global-partnership-new-destinations-a330neo-seats.html I assume that wording is just standard boilerplate, which may or may not impact the overriding Contract of Carriage. It's probably a safe option, and you have ~ three months "history". I assume MH would offer rerouting options if the CNX-KUL flight were to be canceled. Just stay on top of your rez.

No one is going to tackle the police corruption issue. During the recent election, politicians and parties talked about all sorts of reforms: marriage, education, alcohol, military, and even the Monarchy. Did you hear a peep about "Police Reforms"? Uhm, No. That's because, for all their failings, the RTP is the glue that keeps Thai civil society reasonably under control, and the oil that keeps the machine rolling. Corruption is just part of the mechanisms that are tolerated. Plus there's the dosh.
