  1. cops are following the same pattern of multiple often confusing and sometimes conflicting statements as the shrine bombing. would be nice if the right people to be held accountable for this. 2 weeks on and the case is going no where but cold. dont want to blame the reds, dont want to blame the southern insurgents. gotta find someone to blame. finding 20 patsies is going to be a big task.

No, True did not give any of his money to the thief, the bank did that. True reissued his SIM card to the thief without requiring to see his National ID card and he was able to use that. It was really a case of 3 parties being rather negligent, including the victim himself. You seem to presume the seller of a weapon is guilty of any crimes it is used in.

the seller of a firearm has to follow laws in the country they are operating in. record identification or sight the firearms licence etc. true did not follow the procedure, they are at fault. the bank was just following their efficient safety measures. how can anyone blame the bank? cant blame the poor shmuch who lost his money. he should have been covered by the safety measures from the institutions he pays to use. blame the thief, ok but again it should never have happened due to true employees not following procedure.

" They have offered the victim of the crime a phone and free calls for a yea ". :cheesy:  TRUE should have paid the million, not Kasikorn. Or at least 50 50.

there should be no 50 50. true was at fault giving out a sim card to the wrong person.  bank security systems are very good and work if the telephone companies do their job properly.

Last week i saw a documentary about the skytrain in a big city in China. They built it through a condominium and even made a station in the building.

It was the only way to build that skytrain since there was no space left.

Inhabitants of the condo's were given a very cheap rent plus a lifetime membership for the skytrains so they were all happy.

This skytrain is doomed if they don't connect it directly to the old green lines.

gotta hand it to the chinese, when they they decide to fix a problem it gets fixed. thailand seems to be trying to copy chinas political system with a single political party. wonder if it will work, not looking promising so far.

Your sarcasm is misplaced as you were the one that asked the questions about comparatively inconsequential matters.

ah, no see you missed the joke as no one one really cares about deck chairs or lottery tickets. general needs to try to sort out the farming and manufacturing sectors before he starts worrying about small things that dont really bring happiness to the people.

Answers to your questions...yes, lottery tickets are sold at the correct price.   Yes, where deckchairs were intended to be permanently removed they have been.  Certain areas are allowed to have them.  Yes, there are millions of tourists to use not only the deckchairs.

mr general is the man. sounds like he has all the small things sorted. time to move onto some of the bigger things.

Without exception crazy cheap=Crazy poor!!! Nirin complex in Pattaya a rat infested farang ghetto springs to mind full of desperates...

If she wants a condo and fittings furniture  the same as she has in Germany then the condos here are not cheap let alone "crazy cheap"

i rent a nice condo in pattaya for 6000thb per month fully furnished. friend of mine rents a whole house furnished for 8000/month. this is amazing value. rents have not gone up in the 9 years i have been in pattaya, in fact they seem to be going down while the values of the condos themselves seem to pretty much stay the same. (which means they are decreasing when adjusted for inflation) crazy. pattaya just seems to be getting better value as the years go by. crazy.

no reason to hand over your ID number for a bank transfer, and definetly don't hand over any PIN; so the guy is at fault there. Also who in their right mind would leave 1 Million in an ordinary bank account (no interest fo one) and not put a daily limit on withdrawals. He should had a bank account that had no money purely for online deposits, an then easily transferred the incoming money yo another account that customers didn't know the account number. i guess the crim with the new SIM may have got a one off PIN but also circumnavigated any SMS alerts for bank withdrawals; quite clever.

Glad he got his money back but does sound he was a bit at fault. At best it sounds a gray area and i the bank wouldn't have paid if it hadn't done something wrong.

my business generally has over a million baht in the bank account. incoming revenue and money needed for stock means we need running capital and i am sure running a parts business they need the same. the problem here is the thief was able to get a new sim card to receive the pin number to make transactions maybe who ever gave him the sim card is really at fault.

No...under bank of Thailand regulations, a Thai bank will not give you a mortgage on a landed property simply because its illegal to own the land, therefore they would be financing something illegal..that why they don't do it

There is no rule which states a Thai bank cannot loan to a non-Thai,  A WP is only part of the requirement, the other is having a credit rating in Thailand which most farang don't, hence they reason they get knocked back and earning enough money of course

As stated in another post, I was offered a loan on condo by SCB upto THB 12.0 million some years back, which I never pursued and their reasoning was I had a credit history in Thailand and had co-signed on a mortgage through SCB for a Thai national

i looked into it with krung thai. they said yes as long as you have had a work permit for a number of years. can remember how many it was. can only get a 10 year loan with a 50% deposit. think the interest rate was very high as well  so i decided not to do it. end result, your friend can not get a mortgage on property she probably should not buy.

Very good advice, also she could rent her German property out (have the security in Germany) and then rent a condo or a house in Thailand, if she paid £2,500 a year in rent in Thailand x 25 years equals £62,500. It is a safer option and allows her to move to any part of Thailand if she gets bored with Jomtein or if she wants to move back to Germany. I live in a brand new 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom house I rent for 8,000 per month (am in the South of Thailand).  In BKK was only paying £200 a month for a condo.

this is more good advice on top of the previous good advice. buying property in thailand in my experience and most other peoples experiences has been a mistake. so crazy cheap to rent as well. when you want to move you can move, no waiting years to sell your property at a loss. thailand seems to be paradise but give it a few years and for many the shine wears off.

  11. elite is the only full proof option. study visa is a far second best. i would say get a multi entry tourist visa first. come over and test the water. easy to get 6 month rentals or even 3 month ones as there are so many vacant properties and condos around. always go for a 3 month rental if possible. you want to be mobile. bad neighbors can ruin life over here. my mate does monthly rentals on condos in pattaya if you are going there.
