  1. It's very easy. Absolutely no need for spot welding. I could have used the old BMC by cutting the leads and then soldering them in but decided on new BMC as they are so inexpensive. I will post a photo soon of a mock up, where I used scotch tape as a proxy for solder. I needed to solder in 4 places. 2 leads (+-) to the battery holder, and 2 leads to the incoming from the solar panel circuitry.
  2. What you suggest is exactly what I did with my 7 outdoor solar lights, as each died. I could have reused the battery management controllers but I bought new ones. Everything works perfectly and when the time comes that the lithium batteries die, I can simply pop out the old and pop in new ones. The only skill required is being able to solder.
  3. My wife went over yesterday and there was not much of a market. Few customers and not many vendors. She took a picture of a big pile of goods which were damaged by the floods last year, which have not been cleaned yet. The market in Mae Sai is much better at this time.
  4. I've used it about 5-10 times but only at the EA Anywhere at Robinsons, Kamphaeng Phet. Worked well every time except the last time, about 2 months ago, when after it charged my credit card for the 50 baht per hour, it never started charging. It always said 'preparing'. I sent a complaint to the company with a screenshot but they never got back to me, so I was out of pocket 50 baht. Not a big deal because I have a hybrid.
  5. That brings us to a different problem.... when we created the account we applied for Internet banking. Had to fill out multiple forms. They said that the Head Office would send me an SMS with the userid and later an initial password. A few weeks later I get a text message with the userdid and the SMS aslso said that I'll get a password via mail. 2 months later, still no password so we return to the bank Branch. The manager says,OK,no problem, we fill out ALL of the paperwork and start the process all over again. I ask if there's another way, such as calling Head Office to reissue another password, and response was no. I then said we would come back another day. I then call BBL's Customer Service line, wait 30 minutes for a human, explain situation to human, he's really pleasant and didn't know what to do. An hour later, he calls back and says that the branch manager will call me within 3 days and take care of it. 2 hours later, she calls and is very apologetic, saying she will take care of everything but we must come back to the branch. So a couple of days later we do, and the solution is to redo all of the paperwork. UGH! That was last week. As of today, I still don't have internet banking.
  6. My wife and I opened a joint account about 2 months ago. I was assured that it is an 'or' account, where either of the signatories have full control. Either person can deposit, withdraw, etc. Yesterday, my wife and I tried to deposit a cashier's check (drawn on Bangkok Bank) where she was the sole payee. The bank branch (Central Chiang Rai) refused to deposit it because it was in her name only, not both of our names. So she had to open another bank account in her name only and then she deposited the check in that account. Then she immediately transferred the amount of the check into our joint account. This seems absurd but my questioning this was not fruitful, to say the least. Of course my wife did not question the bank as to why it had to be done that way. Has anyone else run into this issue?
  7. A Chiang Rai forum has very recent notices saying that the Mae Sai border is still closed, according to Mae Sai expats living close to the bridge.
  8. Reports are that the US already has the successor to the F-35 flying and breaking all sorts of (good) records.
  9. Actually, I had the sand in my pool filter replaced with Ecoclear about 6 months ago and I used a pool company to do it. In this particular case, my wife hired a pool company to change the sand in a house she rents out, but the tenant insisted that pool cleaner needs to be used, based on what he read.
  10. Sorry, I didn't see that in the subject line. I guess we should go by the first post, which was about Wise not guaranteeing an exchange rate for GBP. Everything else is off topic.
  11. Thank you, that is my understanding and is consistent with what I've read and seen on the Internet.
  12. Several people here imply that using 'long term stay' for a reason of the transfer is the cause of the problem. I believe it is A cause, but not the sole cause. I ALWAYS use 'for general expenses' and it is still taking a long time. Maybe it's a problem with SCB.
  13. From what I've seen and read in the past, when you change the sand in the filter, that's pretty much it. I've now heard from 1 place is that when you change the sand, you should use sand filter cleaner, which seems wasteful because the cleaner is mostly a degreaser which takes body oils and suntan lotion away from the sand. The sand is new, after the change. I'm wondering if someone is just trying to make additional profit by using the cleaner. What do our online experts think?
  14. I initiated a transfer from the US at 6am on Oct 12. Wise says I will get it in my SCB account on Monday the 17th.
  15. Years ago, an Immigration attorney suggested that the simplest way to cancel everything was to go to Immigration and have them cancel my re-entry permit. When I went to Immigration to have this done, they knew exactly why I was doing it without me asking, and it was done very quickly. My reason for doing this was so that I could live in Thailand on a Retirement Extension. I exited the country and my extension and Work Permit were automatically cancelled. I then started the retirement extention process and re-entered the country.
  16. If you want to see the amount for different areas of Chiang Rai, this is a good website: https://bomzee.com/weather/ Quite a bit of variation even from areas a few kms from each other. Probably because of the many mountains and big hills.
  17. I recently bought many (my Canon printer uses 6 different cartridges) on Shopee. To get all 6, I used several different shops in order to get the best prices on each.
  18. I had this done at the Chiang Rai office yesterday. All they wanted was the car's Blue Book, A copy of my House Registration Blue Book, and a copy of my passport. As I mentioned previously, the car's Blue Book has my name in Thai and my Thai ID number. Nowhere does it show my 'English' name nor my passport number. They never asked about this. So.... I guess they don't need proof that the seller actually owns the vehicle.
  19. Thanks, I wasn't planning on going to the DLT but it seems it's best that I do. I'll bring everything with me even though they shouldn't need much.
  20. Thanks, but this doesn't help me. I don't have a yellow house book, I have a blue one. I don't have an extension because I'm a Permanent Resident. The car's blue book has my name in Thai and my Thai ID, which starts with an '8', signifying naturalized Thai citizens and Permanent Residents. Thanks anyway.
  21. An Internet search on docs required bring up many entries, but I didn't see anything about docs required when the seller has PR. For example, one site says: The Buyer needs to bring the following to the Land Transport Office: Vehicle Vehicle ownership booklet (green book which has been signed by the Seller) Passport Signed copies of passport info page and visa page Residence Certificate from Immigration or your embassy (OR a work permit) Application form signed by the seller (form available at the office) In addition, you’ll need either of the following from the Seller: Signed copy of national ID card if the seller is a Thai citizen Signed copy of passport info and visa pages if the seller is a foreigner Residence Certificate from Immigration or your embassy OR a work permit* if the seller is a foreigner. I'm the seller, and my car's Blue book has my Thai ID number and my name in Thai. Nothing about my passport. So, should I use the docs for a Thai citizen? That is, my Thai ID and my house's Blue Book? The DLT here in Chiang Rai sometimes doesn't know proper procedure and they have to call another authority. Thank you in advance.
  22. I stopped into a local (Chiang Rai) Thai Watsadu and they now had real wood baseboards, which they had not carried previously. Maybe the Thai Watsadu chain will be carrying that product throughout Thailand. Maybe check again.
  23. I just went into Kodi and switched my Skin to Xenon. I was then able to go back to Estuary by: 1. Go into the 'Switch Skins' menu. Then scrolled down and choose 'Estuary'. Confirm. or: 1. Go into 'Xenon Matrix' menu 2. Choose 'Interface Settings' 3. Choose 'Skin' 4. Choose 'Estuary' from the list 5. Confirm.
  24. I don't know if I can be of much help because I reverted to the standard interface (Estuary) quite a while ago. It was not intuitive. One of the menus, maybe system, and it was not 'interface', it was 'skin' in a different submenu from Interface. I suggest that you go into the main Xenon menus which sound promising and look in the submenus.
