  1. Only some aspects of prostitution are illegal in Thailand, just like in the UK. The act of paying for sexual services is not in itself illegal. Prostitution is regulated under various Acts of Parliament.
  2. Indeed. It's disheartening how little people seem to care for their kids' safety until a tragedy like this happens, and then totally overreact.
  3. Here we go again... They checked Walking Street and confirmed no prostitution was taking place because it wasn't. Gogo bars and beer bars are not 'prostitution' unless they provide rooms for it to take place in. Presumably any such rooms were closed! Barfining someone and taking them home or to a hotel is not illegal. Now, if they'd said the same thing about 'no prostitution ' in soi 6, you would have a point!
  4. Don't worry, bar fines are legal, as is paying for sex in private. No refunds.
  5. Not sure that's relevant, as most prostitutes are used by local people.
  6. Silly comment. Prostitution is, and always has been, part of Thai culture and is currently regulated under different pieces of legislation. Completely decriminalising all aspects of it would be the change.
  7. I've been teaching English as a foreign language in Thailand for nearly 20 years, with an annual Extension based on work and a work permit and do fine, thanks. Enough to support my wife and child. Quite why you think it can't be done long term, I have no idea! You're completely out of touch.
  8. GB News? Surely not!
  9. Bed by 9.30pm and sleeping by 10.30pm. Wake up at 6.00am to prepare my son for school.
  10. Nonsense. The vast majority of teachers in Thailand teach English as a Foreign Language. They may need a degree for the work permit and they should have a decent TEFL qualification like a CELTA or Trinity, but nothing else. It's no different to TEFL work in most countries, including Europe/UK and other Asian countries.
  11. Not illegal itself, regulated. https://www.sexwork.com/Thailand/legal.html
  12. I pay 10,000 for the year.
  13. I just completed this quiz. My Score 80/100 My Time 68 seconds
  14. And ironically, some stuck-up Thais consider their Chinese heritage somehow makes them superior to the more indigenous natives. You should hear how some Thais talk about Laotians!
  15. It looks great, although is not nearly as much fun these days as it used to be. Definitely worth a visit though.
  16. Well done! Thought my time was unbeatable!
  17. nonce /näns/ adjective (of a word or expression) coined for or used on one occasion. "a nonce usage"
  18. That was only for Walking Street in Pattaya, not the whole country. In any case, they were referring to streetwalkers and premises acting as brothels - both illegal. Walking Street is famous for gogo bars which operate perfectly legally, as long as they don't also operate as brothels. There is nothing illegal about barfining a gogo dancer or bargirl/boy and taking her/him to your hotel or home. In fact that is how the legislation that regulates this type 'entertainment' works - it even stipulates employees should be indentifiable by numbers.
  19. Here we go again 🙄. Can you produce any evidence that the government has ever stated that there is "no prostitution in Thailand"? I doubt it, as prostitution is regulated under Thai law!!
  20. Those little Nestle cans of coffee are some of the most popular offerings to monks.
  21. Starmer knows he has to take tough decisions , be unpopular and not pander to either wing of his party. As @Chomper Higgot says, there's a long time until the next election. More power to him.
  22. Perhaps that's why this Forum is called the 'Political soapbox'! What do you expect? 🙄
  23. I just completed this quiz. My Score 80/100 My Time 70 seconds
