  1. Is that official? I know the Tories planned to raise the salary requirement, but I was hoping Labour might not push it through and keep it at £19,800.
  2. It doesn't bother me even though I've worked here for nearly 20 years. It does bother me that my kid, should he decide to live in Thailand, will have to cope with visas/Extensions all his life unless he meets the requirements for PR when he's odler.
  3. Don't believe anything you read in the Daily Mail!
  4. I'm sure it was just as bad - but not social media and no AQI monitoring. People just got on with life.
  5. Thanks guys. Yes, it seems Alamo are the best value, and I believe have a good reputation. I think I will go with them, rather than National.
  6. Bangkok Bank can and will print out a statement showing your address, if you ask them to. For 200 baht.
  7. My dates are mid-April. Yes, that's around the price. https://www.nationalcar.co.uk/en/home.html
  8. I'm glad you're so easily impressed! The responses are much appreciated. I have already discounted Green Motion and Drivalia. The Excess Protection was for National Car Rental. I'm not using a broker; it is an online booking. This is what they say: "Excess Protection (EP) is an optional coverage available only if Damage Waiver (DW) is included in the rate or purchased. EP reduces the applicable Damage Waiver excess amount. If EP is not included in the reservation, it is available for purchase. For all Cars and SUVs of the categories Mini, Economy and Compact the excess can be reduced to 100 GBP. For all other vehicles the excess can be reduced to 250 GBP. Excess will be charged every time a vehicle is damaged, lost or stolen." It's an extra £20 a day, but probably worth it. Buying a booster cushion is a great idea, as getting it through the rental company is £15 a day+ They have confirmed I can use my Thai DL - not need for an IDP.
  9. Exactly. There's no way Trump wants this coming out!
  10. Microsoft's 'Co-pilot' is exceptionally irritating as there seems to be no way to turn it off when using Word and Outlook.
  11. Isn't it obvious that Trump features heavily in the unreleased Epstein files, so there's no chance they will be released!
  12. No. That's why I need to buy a re-entry permit. Will they issue one for a new passport or put it in the old, cancelled one?
  13. Shocking video. Almost looks like the helicopter deliberately flew into the passenger jet.
  14. I was referring to legal immigrants, not asylum seekers.
  15. Really? The rules are very strict about legal immigrants claiming benefits.
  16. Hopefully Labour will do away with the Tories' policy of increasing the salary level for Settlement visas - or will Starmer kow-tow to the prevailing anti-immigrant mood (Reform!) and go ahead with it?
  17. It might not be "necessary", but processed food is convenient and tasty! I wish we could buy M&S ready-meals here.
  18. Correct. There are no elections in Bangkok.
  19. Fingers crossed that it actually happens. 🤞
  20. I had thought of that, but will Immigration be OK with putting his Re-entry permit in a brand new, unused passport. Presumably they won't put one in his cancelled passport? Although we use CW for our Extensions, I've been able to get Re-entry permits in Rayong, and obviously we could get them at the airport as well.
  21. I'd say it's very unlikely he'll go to prison at all, unless they find he was under the influence of something. More likely that an 'appropriate' amount of compensation to the victims' families will be agreed, and case closed.
  22. The longer I live here (nearly 20 years) the more western food I eat. Most weeks I'll cook a roast dinner, pasta dish, fish or steak, and a curry. There are loads of choices for eating out too - pizzas, burgers, steaks, fish n chips, Sunday roast and the good old English breakfast.
  23. Anyone used Green Motion or Drivalia car rental??
