  1. It's called the "Niacin flush" and it's a well-known result of supplementing with Niacin / B3. Do be a little careful when supplementing with single B vitamins in high doses. The reason for this is that if you are deficient in one B vitamin, when you fix that deficiency then various enzymatic processes will take place and they need co-factors which are often other B vitamins. For example, in many enzymatic processes, B1 also needs a certain amount of B6. It can help to take a B complex - which is all of the B supplements in one pill.
  2. Go to either of the Super Rich branches in Pratunam. That amount will be zero problem and they won't even blink.
  3. It could well be mould in his air-conditioning system. This is not widely known, but is far from uncommon. A good place to find more info about this is at the Reddit Mould group: https://www.reddit.com/r/ToxicMoldExposure/
  4. Something to consider is mould i.e. you have mould in your environment. It might not be visible, but if it's there, and especially if it's been there a long time, it plays havoc with your health. One of the classic signs of mould in your environment is that you have sleep issues which resolve when you are away from your home / usual place of sleeping, and then you sleep just fine.
  5. I actually think a Rolex on your wrist is safer than in a Bangkok hotel safe. Plenty of times I have read stories of theft from the safe in a Thailand hotel room.
  6. Some of us actually like what we do. The people contact, meeting new people, learning new things etc. For some of us, It's not only about money.
  7. The current strength of the Thai baht is a reminder that our retirement nest egg may need to be significantly larger than we think. My goal is to retire with enough funds to generate the equivalent of 100,000 baht / month to live on in retirement. However, I am increasingly of the mind that I will probably need to add 20 - 25% on top of that "to be safe". Unfortunately, that means a good few more years work before I retire.
  8. Just had a look at the latest rate : 1 United States Dollar equals 32.35 Thai Baht. Ouch alright, seems the baht just gets stronger and stronger!

  10. Great, really enjoy this series!
  11. Looks like they cut hm a break twice already. But when it happened a third time they'd had enough!
  12. This doesn't answer your question, but gallbladder removal is a very common procedure. While it's always a good idea to find the best surgeon, this is perhaps one procedure where you don't need to stress about finding the right surgeon for the job. Gallbladder removals along with hernia repairs are amongst the most common and most straightforward operations.
  13. Kind of a funny comment when we're talking about someone who stole things i.e. breaking the law!
  14. Decreased tourism? Where did you get that idea from?
  15. No, it's not extortion. In Thailand, if you are the victim of a crime, you can negotiate with the perpetrator to settle it in lieu of criminal charges being dropped. So what many stores do is signs saying that it is their policy to charge anyone caught shoplifting 10 x the value of the stolen items, otherwise criminal charges will be pressed. Personally, I think the store is being decent, offering shoplifters a way out. Otherwise it's a date in court and as a foreigner with a criminal record, that means possible deportation.
  16. He wouldn't go to prison for this. Probably a small fine of a few thousand baht and that would be it.
  17. Strongly disagree. Most of us have a plan B, and maybe even a plan C or plan D. One should always have a plan whereby if a certain threshold is reached (could be financial, health, whatever) they return to their homeland. It's not my intention to appear harsh, but man, it strikes me as shameful when a foreigner is caught shoplifting in Thailand.
  18. It's not the law but it is the store's policy to settle the issue. Some might think it harsh, but it seems fair to me. The store has given the guy a chance to settle out of court. If he chooses not to do that, he can take his chances in front of a judge.
  19. So you had drugs in your urine and were caught driving under the influence of drugs? Surprise, surprise, that's a criminal offence, pal. You've now got a criminal record in Thailand.
  20. I agree with the sentiment of this. With that said, B vitamin supplements are often many times the RDA (sometimes hundreds of even thousands of times) and it's generally fine. You do have to be careful with the minerals and fat-soluble vitamins, though - and don't want to go too high some of those as you can develop mineral toxicity! For sure, yes, do get testing done for any deficiencies. I did exactly that and found out I was deficient in B1, B6 and C. I supplement with a methylated B complex. For vitamin C, I upped my intake of leafy greens and other vegetables with a decent amount of C like capsicum.
  21. The Fed just lowered the interest rate by 0.5%. Watch the baht shoot up against the USD today. Go, baht, go! Getting 33.xx at exchange outlets looks like it will be a memory for a while. Hello, 32.xx!
  22. It doesn't answer your question but if your issue is toenail fungus, you might like to try tea tree oil. You apply it a couple of times daily for several weeks. Combine that with herbal antifungals (Horopito is the very best, if you can find it) and this is a natural way yo cure toenail fungus that really works. Of course, you should try and identify the root cause of toenail fungus. Often it is due to high or uncontrolled blood sugar - so diet is something to consider too.
  23. Find out what the local law is and follow that. In my country, trees from a neighbouring property can be trimmed back to the boundary line and all the cuttings passed over the fence to the other property. I would not be surprised if Thailand has a similar law but best to check first before doing anything.
