One dead, 30 injured in Singapore Airlines emergency landing
dinsdale replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I'm sorry you're upset and have to lash out calling me an idiot. Sadly it would seem you didn't read or didn't understand the definition of clear air turbulence posted above. Pilots fly above, around and between storms. You know where there air is clear and where clear air turbulence can be encountered. It's not a difficult concept to understand. I've copied this from @Georgealbert (cheers hope you don't mind) and it clearly shows an area which is ..... well ....clear! -

Not "nobody" wearing seatbelts. Those buckled up would have been basically unaffected (scared shtless for sure) but those not buckled up would have been airborne. -
If it keeps up every or almost every day then I agree but will this once again be the false start to the wet. May is often this way then the rain basically stops for a month of more with hot humid days and occasional storms until it finally breaks into the real wet season.

Rediculous comment and clearly shows your lack of knowledge about turbulence and doppler radar. It is absolutely evident that this particular patch of turbulence was very much unexpected. It happens. -

From what I've read yes so please stop you're puerile baiting attemps. Being that you obviously have no idea what clear air turbulence is here's a definition. Clear Air Turbulence (CAT) Clear Air Turbulence (CAT) is defined as sudden severe turbulence occurring in cloudless regions that causes violent buffeting of aircraft. This term is commonly applied to higher altitude turbulence associated with wind shear. The most comprehensive definition is high-altitude turbulence encountered outside of convective clouds. This includes turbulence in cirrus clouds, within and in the vicinity of standing lenticular clouds and, in some cases, in clear air in the vicinity of thunderstorms. Generally, though, CAT definitions exclude turbulence caused by thunderstorms, low-altitude temperature inversions, thermals, strong surface winds, or local terrain features [source: FAA AC 00-30C]. https://skybrary.aero/articles/clear-air-turbulence-cat -

Mumbai is Bombay but thanks, made me look up the new names. As for telling me where I landed that's just incredibly arogant. I think I know where I landed thank you very much and it wasn't Mumbai previously Bombay as I sateted. My mistake. It was Chenai previously Madras and it was a DC 10. Indeed it was a Malaysian Airlines DC 10. -

True but it would seem that it was too late. Pretty hard to buckle up when your flying into the overhead luggage compartments or the roof of the cabin or the roof of the toilet. -

Not all turbulence will be detected. This would seem to be the case here. -

They are medical emergency responders so I guess they were responding to a medical emergency. If you think they only exist for road crashes (admittedly probably a large % of their of their responses) then you are very mistaken. -

From the 2nd quote it would seem (maybe) the seatbelt sign came on only when it was too late. Clear air turbulence can go undetected until you hit it it. -

'All of a sudden I was hitting the roof' Thanyarat Doksone Reporting from Bangkok A British man who was traveling with his family on the flight tells me how the turbulence began. “It was probably 10 hours in the flight, so there were people walking around. And there was no sign to put the seat belts on," he says. "There was no turbulence prior to that. It went from no turbulence to this one turbulence. No plane shaking at all and then I was hitting the roof. All of a sudden, I was up like that. -

You either do not live in Thailand or you are very unobservant and have never heard of the Poh Teck Tung Foundation and other volunteer organisations. I think these units are from the Sawang Boriboon Foundation but I might be wrong. As for the "AOT nurse shirt" the vid you are refering to is not an AOT employee that I'm fairly certain is a Pok Teck Tung Foundation responder. -

What's this god you speak of? Is this some sort of turbulence? Maybe the name of the pilot? -

Gets the old sphincter going doesn't it. I had two fly arounds on a DC 10 landing in Mumbai, India on the edge of a cyclone. 1st time in we broke through the low cloud at a very, very disturbing angle of approach. 2nd time wind sheer. 3rd time lucky but it was a bit of a hard landing. Cabin crew looked terrified. I had a very quick word with the co-pilot when disembarking. I asked him if we were lucky. His answer was yes. He looked shaken as did the crew and the passengers. Never forget that one that's for sure. -

I understand your trying to be facetious because that's what you do but on a 777-300ER there are 9 toilets. If each is occupied and there are other people waiting it can be quite a few. Of course then you have people walking to and from toilets and others who are simply not buckled up. Added to this you have the cabin crew. Due to the large number of injuries and one or more fatalities I would assume that this turbulence was not detected by the onboard equipment, no turbulence warnings given by the pilot and the buckle-up signs were not on. -

Impossible on long haul flights to stay buckled up as a trip to the toilet is necessary. It's one of the usual places that people get injured with severe turbulance. -

Fair chance some of the overhead damage was from people smashing into it not the other way round.- 359 replies

Terrifying experience for all involved. Sadly a fatality and to what extent the people were injured will come out. This is real news and worthy of an article of a much higher standard and accuracy than this huge mistake of an article. I always stay belted up expect for going to the dunny.- 359 replies

One dead, 30 injured in Singapore Airlines emergency landing
dinsdale replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
"A Singapore Airlines flight had to make a sudden landing at Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok due to harsh weather; sadly, one passenger died and 30 others got injured. The air traffic control team at the airport got an emergency signal from the London-Singapore flight at 4 pm on May 21. As per a Facebook page called Pilot Notebook, severe weather encountered by the Singapore Airlines plane after it left London for Changi Airport led it to land at Suvarnabhumi Airport instead. Unfortunately, this emergency landing led to injuries of 30 passengers and the death of one. The flight carried 211 passengers along with 18 cabin crew. The incident may have been caused by unexpected air turbulence over the Indian Ocean, though the official reason remains unconfirmed. It's also believed that the deceased passenger might have sustained fatal injuries due to not buckling the seatbelt during landing." From what I have read elsewhere this is completely incorrect. The death and injuries occured during flight due to severe turbulance. This article states it was "during landing" 100% wrong. Once again the "journalistic standards" on this site are up to their usual high levels. Then goes on to say the incident happened over the Indian ocean. For sure though the death and the injuries are certainly down to not being belted up.- 359 replies

That's handy isn't it even if said YT vids supply links it cannot be posted. You didn't answer my question though. Do you think he is qualified enough to take a medical/scientific opinion opposing the narrative? Your post was it's all disinformation from unqualified people. -

You mean someone like this..... [Robert] Clancy is an emeritus professor at the University of Newcastle's School of Biomedical Sciences and Pharmacy. He was previously Foundation Chair of Pathology at the University of Newcastle. Earlier in his career he was the first clinical immunologist at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney. He was educated at North Sydney Boys High School. He holds a BS.Med (Hons) and a MBBS (Hons) from the University of Sydney and a PhD from Monash University. He is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) and the Royal College of Pathologists of Australia (FRCPA). He was admitted as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM, Order of Australia) in 2005 for service to cartography as a collector of early maps of Australia and to the field of immunology.[4] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Clancy_(doctor) Youtube vids featuring this person will not be allowed. His views oppose the narrative. Do you think he is not qualified enough to make highly educated comments and to challenge the narrative that you hold onto so tightly? Just one of many highly qualified people who are silenced by the legacy media. -

Yep it's not a cold and it's not the flu you are correct. Three different virus although the common cold and the flu come in different varieties. I guess Omicron does too. But for saying it's far from a cold this is not the case for the vast majority of people. Covid 19, the flu and the common cold share many symptoms.
