It's probably not that I'm just saying if it's the banks policy to require a non-O and letter from immigration (like for BKK bank in Chiang Mai) and you hire some "agent" which skirts the the rules you could face problems in the future. Isn't this common sense though? What are these agents doing exactly? Anyways, I know Thailand is a corrupt country so maybe none of this matters and who cares but I don't want to mess around personally.
-
I guess go to the bank and ask them what they require. If say a letter from immigration and you come back with some "agent" then you're probably breaking some rules and it could come back to bite you. Same for you then, don't tell random people in random areas to hire agents which may or may not break rules of any given bank. I'm in Chiang Mai and called multiple banks all of which refused except for Bangkok Bank and they required a letter.
-
As stated they required me a letter from immigration proving I had the correct visa. In fact I needed to get the bank account in order to deposit the money before getting the visa so immigration had to testify to the fact I was in the process of applying and eligible. Why would they require me to do that if I could just hire some "agent" and bypass the rules? However this maybe isn't a law but a rule of the bank itself but I don't know.

They required a letter from immigration for me. I think these agents are just breaking the law and it could mean your account is closed in the future without notice if the bank branch gets busted.

yes it seems that way but then why are some areas reporting over 500? Do they have better devices there or something? I'm also surprised how many people are trusting the authorities in Thailand. Sure the devices may read a certain value but for all we know they send the numbers off to a central database where it's uploaded to the public. That's the central point of failure where a corrupt government (like Thailand is know to be) could tamper with data. I'm not saying this is happening but it's possible and wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.
-
Ok I actually did some research and found this. Appears there may be a maximum on some systems? Not all though as pointed out that some did read over 500. https://www.hindustantimes.com/cities/500-what-a-maxed-out-aqi-means/story-Zg0gUMnSKCZKEAu0iry62J.html “Not much has been studied as to what happens after we reach an AQI of 500. Health impacts plateau after a certain point. There is not much point in monitoring beyond that,” the scientist added. So you're most likely correct and I retract my nation wide conspiracy allegation....for now.... ????

The problem is the uniform numbers which are clipped at 500. That suggests it's reaching some limit and we're not getting the real numbers. Sure maybe it's not tourism related but the data is not being reported accurately and that's the problem.
-
Thanks I didn't see that earlier. None the less the prevalence of 500's is suspect. If this was a tax audit they would call out those uniform numbers as being suspect also. Maybe one or two but that many should put up red flags.
-
I haven't even gone into the numbers which are just wrong and randomly too low. Those are all over the place too. What's interesting to me is they have capped the numbers at 500. I don't know how the information is taken from the meters but they may be reporting them manually for all I know and have been instructed to not enter higher than 500. Does anyone know how the numbers are reported to the public and arrive on the internet? That would be good to know.
-
My little meter I have is able to measure values higher than 500. I don't believe there's don't go that high. Then explain why the numbers stop at 500? Are suggesting the Thai authorities wouldn't tamper with data in order to present a false narrative? They do this constantly with tourism numbers so I don't see why it's so crazy to think they're not being fully honest with the air quality.
-
As reported some of the locations show a higher value if you click on them. That suggests the website is not presenting the information properly.
-
Yes I'm seeing that for SOME of the locations. Thanks. There's still funny business going on here though.
-
Other areas are over 500 outside of Thailand so it's not the website itself. I'm reading 220 PM 1.0 360 PM 2.5 460 PM 10 right now in Mae Jo. I didn't research how the AQI is calculated but I think that's higher than 500. I have a house in Samoeng but it's wooden and not possible to run air purifiers so I'm not going up there at the moment but I've noticed they routinely shut off their meters. I know it's way over 500 up there in the mountains. Same story in Pai. I have family there and know the area well. The smoke is far worse than CM at these times of years. No way it's only 500. So yeah I'm alleging a nation wide conspiracy to rig the AQI monitoring in order to promote tourism. Not a far reach in my opinion.
-
Yeah sorry I call BS on this. All those locations are all at 500 even? No way. I see this all over the north, it goes to 500 and stops.

Chinese tourists coming back to Thailand in big numbers

noooooooo!!!!!! -
OK so I did report it online and I still have the old slip in my passport. The question is if they will check to see if it's outdated or not. I got fined 1600 I seem to recall while at immigration. It's was just there and then I saws dozens of people getting fined which surely is thousands eventually. If the laws says TM30 is no longer required as of 2020 then CM has ironically decided at around that same time to start enforcing it.

Why would you ask that here instead of seeing a doctor? -
I have non-O visa and left the country for 4 days then returned last Monday. I forgot to report my address since we arrived later than immigration is open and then forgot until now. Can I still report this online and if so how? As an aside, I never reported my address for over 10 years (like most laws I didn't know they cared) and then just last year Chiang Mai immigration decided they do now want this and were collecting fines from dozens of people. Was this a one-off or are they actually going through passports now and checking? I know your supposed to follow the laws etc... etc.. but Thailand so often ignores their own laws it's my policy now to do as little as possible until they actually call me out.
