It sounds like this was a legit accident and no one was at fault in the initial incident. Everyone knows to not walk on the side of the road in the dark and it may have even been the pedestrians fault according that states law. Her fleeing the country changes this 100% and shows a clear and certain malice and disregard for human life. It's hard to compare but you're getting close to murder now in my opinion.

Thai's appear to me to be living life in a little bubble which contains themselves and their most immediate family and friends. Outside the bubble it's like survival in the jungle where you can never really trust another person and therefore have little empathy for them. You can see this on display anytime you come to an intersection without a traffic light and how they push and shove their way through while sizing up the other vehicles by physical size and intents. In a civil society you have respect for each other and follow agreed up rules but Thailand is not.

More traffic and congestion but now there's food delivery services so you don't have to go out and suffer. Maybe more fancy coffee shops and restaurants if that interests you. If thought CM was nice but too busy or too difficult to get around then stay away, otherwise it's pretty much the same.

Swedes and Thais fight each other over traffic rule in Phuket
NorthernRyland replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Sorry I simply refuse to be lied to. -
I don't know much about this but I do see often condos for sale in Chiang Mai which cost as much a 2 story house (3+ million range) so I have to wonder if these are actually priced for the real market of buyers or just being used to speculate on. Likewise I just saw a piece of 1.1 Rai land in Mae Rim (northern part of Chiang Mai well outside the city) being listed for 47 million. This is extreme but I often see silly things like this so I've myself wondered if we're in the middle of property bubble.

Missed 90 day report
NorthernRyland replied to CrossBones's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
So they're totally full of it. They just charge a flat fine of 2000 baht regardless and they're outright lying in their ticket they put in our passports. I wondered why that read so confusingly. -
Missed 90 day report
NorthernRyland replied to CrossBones's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I just missed my first 90 report by 2 weeks and despite getting that same ticket in my passport I was only changed 2000 baht (last week). What's going on here? did they change the law and they're ignoring it themselves? -
Watchdog Thailand investigate after stray dog vanishes
NorthernRyland replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
For a country of supposed dog lovers why are there so many diseased miserable suffering dogs everywhere? We have laws against animal abuse in the US also and I never saw these horrible sites even once. -
Sorry it has to be said, Thai's have a savage and backwards culture surrounding dogs. It's sickening all the poor diseased dogs suffering the streets you see here. 100% of this is the fault of the general Thai population at large. It shows the Thai's have a cruel indifference towards dogs or are too lazy and selfish to make any steps to fix the problem. Whatever, nothing is going to change here but they should all be ashamed of themselves and I wish they knew they were losing face in the eyes of the civilized world.

The worst part of this is that the smoke means the world will never get to know how lovely Feb-March in Northern Thailand is. Flowers blooming on trees, cool/dry weather and longer days all destroyed...

Please do yourself a favor and don't come until at least May unless this is your last chance for the rest of your life. It's not worth it believe me.

Today we asked about reentry and I think the IO said we need to just come and re-declare our address but the 90 day report will be reset to the reentry date. Otherwise you'd be required to do a 90 day report the first day you enter the country if you have been gone for more than 90 days. How does the make any sense? Maybe I'm missing something though...
-
The 90 day reports appear to be way to maintain a useless bureaucracy which employees people. What sense is there to any of this? I had to sign my name 6 times today over multiple pieces of paper when paying my fine. It's insanity here but clearly they have nothing better to do with their population. Next year I will file the same documents for my extension (in duplicates) and report my same address when I re-enter the country after a trip to Vietnam and fill out the same form every 90 days with duplicate information. I wish they would just make us pay some fee and be done with all the nonsense. /rant over/

Yeah I'm of course going in tomorrow with 2k cash. I must have forgotten about that piece of paper and just had the general date in mind of when I got the actual visa. Do they give you this piece of paper every time you do the 90 day report? I planned to do this online so I'll do that next time and hopefully it works and gives me another fixed date.

I think my visa expired on Nov 1st so I got an extension (can't remember why now) and then came back on Dec 9th to apply for the 12 month extension and collected the visa on Jan 9th after approval. What the Nov 1st date has to do with the 12 month extension and subsequent 90 day reporting is what confuses me.
