  1. The Buddhist New Year is actually celebrated in several countries and in no way belongs to Thailand.
  2. Nah, everyone has the same legal rights. That's basic. It protects the innocent and ensures fair treatment to all.
  3. I think there is an element of pollution protection, but many Thais will put masks on before entering a building, having not worn one outside. You can still see them lifting up masks when they see foreigners also. There's definitely still an element of covid protection. It seems that covid (or airborne viruses in general) is kind of a permanent thing for some Thais. Possibly there's some snobbery/xenophobia around it also for a few people. "Us good clean Thais need to wear masks around these dirty foreigners." Things have definitely improved after covid, though. Thailand was a couple of years behind the rest of the world, but they've softened towards foreigners a fair amount. I don't know if it will ever go back to how it was before, though.
  4. Different lenses make your face look a different shape. Can't seem to share photos anymore, but you can see a load of examples here: https://www.google.com/search?sca_esv=ea28a01ba0d65b63&rlz=1C1FKPE_en-GBTH990TH990&sxsrf=AHTn8zppX9du2rOrGh1oM0HCt0LzVrjYjg:1744353548463&q=photo+of+face+using+different+lens+shapes&udm=2&fbs=ABzOT_CWdhQLP1FcmU5B0fn3xuWpA-dk4wpBWOGsoR7DG5zJBkzPWUS0OtApxR2914vrjk4cnNuy70DjYycFY2zPIcdFZx13QdiTBmjcNUG2ZuZAl0DBPunXgRLNBMtrfFPwjLQT5SgKbfV18hQiH2IvOXjXxjhXw1uGl3YGld0CRZo-7MTPtzSXgnrpiAjtRtuZI8abRNzywV5GC2hbRUM8EtAqOmx3Zw&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjSvPmsr8-MAxUGRmwGHSKLJT4QtKgLegQIFxAB&biw=1920&bih=911&dpr=1
  5. No, it's not. A mirror cannot provide a 3D image as it is a 2D object providing a 2D reflection. Our brain interprets that as a 3D image. A mirror definitely provides a 3D image. What you see in a mirror is 3 dimensional. We are able to see the three dimensions (width, height and depth) when we look in a mirror. That's just how mirrors work.
  6. It's quite interesting to consider how Thais would really feel about the above. I suspect that actually many would not want some of these, since rights typically come with responsibilities. (Or perhaps they might want them for others but not for themselves.) Improved education would mean no more no-fail, and a lot more hard work for some (and possibly others leaving school with no qualifications). Improved safety means a lot of fines or lost licences, with a huge learning curve. Reduction in corruption would mean the corruption that most people enjoy every day would have to go. Add the rest, and it would likely mean a lot higher taxes, higher prices, and less fun overall.
  7. I think it's because you took it a little far with the "30 years mortgage", like that was something unusual that means their life is fake. Lots of people have very long mortgages, so it isn't really an indicator of anything. You're being quite rude about what other people are saying, so this prompts the expectation that the insights you share will be pretty high quality. Possibly have a think about how to engage with others in a slightly more open, objective and friendly way.
  8. Also, the Japanese are expected to work ridiculously long hours.
  9. You need to factor in whether being "free" actually makes people happy. Quite often, people in "less free" countries are happy due to not having to think too much and the method of control being direct/non-emotional. Countries where the method of control is more covert are often unhappy, as they need to be manipulated emotionally because they are "more free".
  10. Not being bothered is a really underrated perk of Thailand. I don't know if it's a quirk of the competitive and individualistic nature of the West, but it does seem like messing with other people and having some sort of impact on their lives is very popular. It's like people either want to directly bother people, or they need them to validate their life in some way, just to make them feel good. Whilst you do get people in Thailand that care about their image and what people think of them, you rarely get the feeling that they want to inflict something on others as part of it.
  11. Coke in Thailand is already weak enough. You need to take a trip to Laos just to get a sip of the good stuff!
  12. That's what she is charged with. I wonder if she can get away with manslaughter based on stupidity... 🤔
  13. One of the main reason Trump was voted in was his promise to "Make America great again", and a big part of that was returning production work to the US. You have no idea what you are talking about and your hatred for Trump has clouded your judgement and disabled your critical thinking ability.
  14. Not super-specific at the moment, but multiple reliable news sites are reporting it. https://www.investopedia.com/which-countries-are-retaliating-and-which-are-negotiating-trump-s-tariffs-update-11711796 https://www.forbes.com/sites/alisondurkee/2025/04/09/will-trump-negotiate-tariffs-president-touts-talks-with-other-countries-but-unclear-how-long-theyll-take/ https://edition.cnn.com/2025/04/08/politics/trump-tariff-negotiations-foreign-leaders/index.html Although I realise this will come as bad news to Trump-haters, it is at least fairly positive news for the US. 🤷‍♂️
  15. Trump is a master strategist. The tariffs scared people into negotiating, they are now paused while the negotiations take place. Unfortunately, people are so mentally damaged by the very existence of Trump, they are unable to process information in a normal way. They're so desperate for a "gotcha" moment, they cannot think rationally.
  16. Obviously Trump will be successful and China will cave. Trump is a master strategist and China is in the far weaker position.
  17. IT says "throat tightness" here. https://www.livestrong.com/article/520028-caffeine-and-throat-tightness/ Does that fit your symptoms?
  18. "Don't focus on what we're doing, look at this scary thing instead and let us get on with it."
  19. I guess it becomes an issue when there's a chance of a wider audience seeing it. 🤷‍♂️
  20. I was going to say, Mor Lam dancers at "family-friendly" events wear little clothing and shake their butts in exactly this way.
  21. Weird, as there is no car park visible in either picture. Do they mean "parked car"?
