  1. Regenerative braking does not convert thermal energy into electricity. Whilst driving a vehicle with a regenerative braking system, the electric motor draws power from the battery to turn the wheels, creating the kinetic energy it needs to move. When the brakes are applied however, the process switches into reverse mode. Now the kinetic energy that was initially used to propel the vehicle, makes the wheels rotate the electric motor, turning it into a type of generator. Instead of consuming electricity, the motor/generator starts producing it, using the vehicle’s kinetic energy. The electrical energy is then stored in a high voltage battery, where it is used again to help propel the vehicle. Since regenerative braking converts the vehicle’s kinetic energy into electricity, it is also able to slow it too, in the same way hydraulics brake do with friction.
  2. I spent about 6 weeks in Mueang Loei last fall. That was better than the 2 years I lived there in 1977-79.
  3. Joe and I were in the same Peace Corps training group for a couple months back in 1977. Didn't see much of him after training, as we were posted quite a ways apart. I like Joe. In this fairly recent artillery, he says "I was based in Chiang Mai for 12 years and have been living in Bangkok since 2008." https://www.scmp.com/magazines/post-magazine/books/article/3215583/why-first-lonely-planet-thailand-travel-guide-author-fell-love-country-and-its-culture
  4. Is UBUY legitimate? https://www.ubuy.co.th/th/search/?q=electric skillets
  5. I'd get an electric skillet with a removable pan. Something 12" x 16" might allow you to make a huge omelette that could be cut into a dozen pieces or so. Or just use a hotplate and a couple pans ... cook, cool, cut.
  6. I was in the hospital for several days in mid-April. Haven't smoked or had a beer since. I do miss the smoking at times.
  7. Years back when my brother was very young, he had a bad accident at a motocross track and severely broke his leg and lost a kneecap. His broken leg ended up being nearly 2 inches shorter as he grew.
  8. My wife's childhood friend & her husband own that hotel in Chiang Khan. I believe that they also own the Loei Village Hotel in Amphur Muang Loei, about 300 meters from the hospital. I lived in Loei for two years back in 1977-79. It's still rather boring. They recently put new stairs, walkways and viewing platforms at Phu Bo Bit (just across the river) . It's worth the climb, especially if you do it at sunrise or sunset.
  9. Try Mount Sunflower, the highest point in Kansas. The elevation is 1,225 meters. The mountain itself is somewhere between 6 and 9 meters tall.
  10. Years back my Mom-in-law had very strong vinegar in a small glass bottle. She called it hua nam som (head of the vinegar?). She cautioned us to dilute it for food use.
  11. "... She had suffered broken ribs ..." So they put her on the stretcher and put hold-down straps across her rib cage!
  12. Here's one fix: https://bikesandtravels.com/biker.aspx?ride=7400 Original thread: https://bikesandtravels.com/biker.aspx?ride=7360
  13. We used to live in an old water tank on a rubbish tip. We got woke up every morning by having a load of rotting fish dumped all over us!
  14. I got an IDP last fall in the U.S. I haven't had a motorcycle endorsement for years but I told the IDP guy I had a lifetime Thai motorcycle license, so he checked both car and bike.
  15. Phu Bo Bit has some very nice views. I was up there at dawn in October last year. The new stairs and viewing points are light years ahead of what used to be there. It's still quite a climb for older folks. Here's a sunset view from Phu Bo Bit taken by member Shaggy Num who recently passed away. And a view of Phu Bo Bit from the roof of the Loei Palace hotel.
  16. On Google street view I saw several 40 KPH on signs and painted on the road in that general area. The road is wide and straight right there. The map coordinates are: 13.813953449804252, 100.57557059343189
  17. You could go to a Wat to drink it, just bring enough for everyone.
  18. Years back a buddy of mine visited Thailand. He complained about the "ditch water", LOL.
  19. "Somchat has an extensive criminal record and had been in prison six times previously, most recently just released in January of this year, 2023...." Lesson: Be wary of people you buy drugs from for resale. Don't get behind in payments.
  20. This shooting took place in a small town of 3,200 people. What the ....? That's the kind of place where everybody knows each other. Things don't make sense anymore.
  21. I visited Vietnam for about 2 weeks last fall. I don't recall noticing anyone without a helmet. They had mixed results but awareness improved. http://millionssaved.cgdev.org/case-studies/vietnams-comprehensive-helmet-law
  22. It must have been fun and exciting while it lasted. But was it worth it?
  23. The 125 might have about another 1.5 horsepower, assuming 100 HP/Liter which may be stretching it. But every bit helps.
