  1. Okay, just to clarify what I was talking about the Seal 12v battery location, it is under the rear seat ( behind the passenger ).
  2. I saw a FB post yesterday ( cannot find it now ) with a schematic showing the location and a couple of photos. It certainly looked to be under the rear seat and there was an access panel, not sure if access is from the front or rear of the seat although I would imagine it has to be from the front. Just re-read your post and it seems to be about the main ( EV ) battery which is in the normal BYD location ( between the axles and danger of flood damage, I was talking about the 12v battery.
  3. Some might be wondering how to gain access to the low voltage battery on the BYD Seal with the front compartment completely sealed ( pun intended ) with the frunk ? Well the battery is actually located under the rear seats, not sure how accessible it is . If connection to another vehicle’s battery is necessary for starting there is facility in the frunk compartment or a push button inside the driver’s door to facilitate starting. I suggest prospective buyers, and I include myself here, to educate themselves on these procedures before venturing too far. refer pages 100 and 197 of this European manual for clarification: https://www.bydauto.nl/app/uploads/2023/09/BYD-SEAL-Owner_s-Manual-Left-hand-Drive.pdf
  4. Thanks, good to know. I do see a lot of people “diying” the video recorder and electric tailgate into the Dolphin, likewise many fitting the kick sensor to the Atto 3, wonder if they are aware of any possible warranty issues.
  5. Yes the lack of sound is annoying and i have also seen reports that the resolution is not as good as some after market dash cams. A shame BYD haven’t ( apparently ) resolved these two things for a premium car like the Seal. While it is easy to purchase a good quality dash cam it means it will have the cable trailing down to the plug, unless hard wired, as no usb socket behind rear view mirror like MG and GWM. Seems like BYD missed an opportunity to improve the video recorder quality and add to the list of new tech.
  6. The video I saw shows that the cable is already installed and it is just a question of removing the cover, plugging the cable in, snapping the camera into position, rebooting the system and you are good to go. Many have fit them already as readily available from Lazada, Shopee and AliExpress. Not doubting the sales person told you this but i would like to get a second opinion. Seems a bit harsh when all parts are already there for fitting. Wonder why the decision to remove the camera was made ? I suspect it might be a similar case for the Seal as the camera housing looks the same as on Atto 3 but no mention of the video recorder in any of the info or videos i have seen. @Bandersnatch , maybe you could ask the void warranty question if it turns out a recorder is not fitted ?
  7. Yup, EV’s are evolving so fast they have become like the iPhone, or any other advance in technology for that matter, you just get used to the new toy and an updated version comes along !!
  8. Yup, a few desperate souls out there after taking a look at Seal. Here’s one asking 1.1 million with 20k on the clock. But he has put every accessory going : sidestep, spoiler, black roof , ceramic coating, 15.6” screen, Frunk and gas struts, kick sensor and wheels and tyres !!
  9. Here’s someone asking for an Atto in white or gray, low mileage, good condition. Plenty of replies to this post and others wanting to sell, all around the 1.0 to 1.1 million mark which is a bit hopeful I think.
  10. Okay thanks, a few Dolphin owners were surprised to learn that although the relevant button was on the info screen and the slot for sd card was there the dash cam wasn’t working, only to learn that a camera wasn’t fitted !, but can be bought for 3k and fitted diy.
  11. Anyone looking to buy a used Atto 3 ?, now is the time, seen about 12 wanting to sell on FB today. The day after the Seal announcement …….. coincidence ? ….. i think not ! Looks like BYD aren’t taking part exchange or just giving the usual p1ss poor price for the “ turn “. Anyone ?
  12. This is handy for checking the differences between the 3 specs of BYD Seal and the colours available etc . https://autolifethailand.tv/unofficial-price-byd-seal-ev-bev-thailand/ I don’t see any mention of the built in dash cam that was in the Atto 3 but missing from the Dolphin ( although the camera can be bought and fit to the Dolphin very easily ). Anyone ?
  13. Yes, we have it pretty damn good here for EV prices The standard range BYD Dolphin here costs US$19k , the same car has just been launched in Mexico for US$31k !!
  14. Same as the Atto 3 ?, under 30 kph emits a pedestrian awareness synthetic sound, 2 actually which have been described as a space ship or ice cream truck !! Heard it in a Seal YouTube video with that Irish fella. On the Atto it is possible to unplug the speaker under a plastic cover right at the front of bonnet, of course safety concerns means some people aren’t prepared to unplug this. But wrapping the speaker with a couple of layers of tape seems sufficient to reduce the sound, still audible outside but less so inside. Of course, it may be hard wired in the Seal or difficult to access, time will tell.
  15. Another MG Cyberster vídeo , this time showing some driving. That is one beautiful car , a bit of Plasti Dip ( or Hyper Dip if you prefer ) on those badges and those silver “ headrests “ and it would be perfect imho.
  16. Yup, looks like the op should wear a T-shirt with “ I am Thai , show me some respect “ written on it ……. in Thai script of course. Or do like the rest of us and accept our facial attributes will always mean we are treated differently irrespective of whatever paperwork we have acquired.
  17. Yup, don’t think BYD do the window film freebie. They have gone back to the Atto 3 level of free stuff after the Dolphin no charger/no free maintenance schedule again. Clearly BYD needed to reduce the price for Dolphin v MG4 battle and nicked some of the freebies to do that, MG rebuttal was the 100k discount, but they also had to reduce the package to do that, quite a battle of the baht going on here . With the Seal up against the Model 3 I think the price alone will favour BYD, the freebies package is just icing on the cake. Let us know how the test drive goes .
  18. Seems like the Seal is getting an upgraded home charger , the ABB home charger is around 50k single phase or 60k for 3 phase.
  19. “ In 2014 Toyota stated they had this mythical battery in pre production “ Not sure Toyota have anything Solid State, so far have shown nothing, only empty promises.
  20. There’s a white ( Frost ) Atto 3 near where I live, it’s a strange colour, at times it appears grey or even a very light purplish tinge. Green would have been my choice. The guy parks it half on the street and half on the pavement with a granny charger and extension lead disappearing into some bushes. Strangely it still has red plates and I figure it appeared in mid April.
  21. As with all things Immigration the home visit process will vary depending on location …… but some IO’s are just taking the p1ss !! IMO a few guidelines need to be followed: Entering the house is perfectly acceptable but only to sit down to fill the paperwork, no need to stray from the lounge. Any request to see your bank book or state your income should be politely refused. Any request for gas money should be firmly refused. A glass of cold water can be offered but no need to wine and dine them. Requests for photos in the bedroom should be refused, totally unnecessary imho and proves nothing. Requests for witnesses should be met with “ you are free to talk to my neighbours if you wish “ or words to that effect. No need to be hostile but also no need to become best friends, from my visits i have noticed that some IO’s are embarrassed by the whole thing while others show an air of superiority. A photo with your open passport or in front of the house number and someone to sign in acknowledgment of their visit is all they need. They are only doing what their boss has ordered them to do and it is their job so no need to let it raise your blood pressure ………. or add them to your Christmas card list .
  22. BYD changed the wall charger supplied from Duosida to Zhida , to include an improved part built into the charger. Something to do with the breaker tripping with the original wall charger, I don’t remember the exact details. But the warranty has gone from 1 to 2 years so has to be an improvement .
