  1. If you have the means to bypass passport control, then you should not be at all concerend about the lack of additional few ££ from annual state pension increases! PH
  2. What - and make yourself an illegal immigrant???!!! PH
  3. I thought I was a lone voice in the wilderness and all I could hear was an echo...seems it was you 😀😀😀 PH
  4. Yes. Did it earlier this year when up country and realised mine would run out before I got home. PH
  5. Some of us have the ability to see further than the next five minutes. Some are also able to discuss serious topics in a grown up manner. PH
  6. I really, really, really wish it didn't. But as the leader of the most powerful democracy on the planet, POTUS can be a major force for good or ill for everyone. PH
  7. Some customers may find it more convenient! In addition, handling cash (as well as potential for theft) costs businesses money. No cash - increase profit margin, some of which may well be passed on the customers. Win-win, unless you hold bank shares. PH
  8. Many parts of the UK - especially big city centres and sporting events - will not take cash. Suggest you need to move with the times PH
  9. Are you aware of Article 5 of the NATO agrrement - the one that mandates all to come to the aid of one who is attaked? Are you aware that this has been invoked exactly once....ONCE...since NATO began? That once was in response to the USA being attacked. WE came to YOUR aid. You are welcome. PH
  10. Maybe contact the Companies who are hosting the event and ask them. Do something positive rather than carp and criticize. PH
  11. There are many who appear to think Pattaya is representative of Thailand as a whole. Up in Isaan, they are generally very respectful - of both locals and incomers - who do not wish to take part. PH
  12. Care to give us a factual link to show anywhere this has happened, or could happen? PH
  13. maybe that is it, as my (only) car purchase here gained a decent discount. But not on a "high end" car. PH
  14. Could say that about the opening post of the thread!! PH
  15. Of course. I have two accounts - BKK and Kasikorn - both noted as recipients on my Wise account. PH
  16. While this is true, Biden is not from or of the idiot (extreme) left, while Trump is most definitey a fanatic, and in many respected very right wing. PH
  17. You go to bars where they do not charge? Not all bars are low level pick up joints. Pretty much all bars I have been to run a tab that you pay at the end - not aware of ANY in Thailand where you pay by the order. Please provide an example of one that does to update my education. PH
  18. You really are small minded!! My Thai partner has, on several occasions, taken my side in any disagreement with staff; she usually scrutinises any large bill in a bar or restaurant to make sure it is right and we (yes, WE) are not being overcharged. Some of us have proper relationships PH
  19. Haivng money in a fixed account where you cannot withdraw is a different problem and, as you state, not allowed by many (most? all?) IOs. Many fixed accounts, though, allow access but with loss of interest and that is perfectly acceptable. PH
  20. But the money IS being seasoned....just using two accounts with one of them always having the required amount. Yes, you will have to provide two lots of statements, but that is all. PH
  21. If you cannot transfer direct, then transferring to your Savings Account will start the clock in any case...then you can transfer to Fixed when here. All you need do is show both Account balances etc when applying for your Visa. PH
  22. Nope. The was (and is) no loophole. In the past, you could "decide" if asked, that inbound funds were from prior years' and therefore not assessable. Now, you could "decide" that inbound funds are from savings held at 1 Jan and therefore not assessable. It is a question of fact (a legal term) where and when the funds originated. In both cases you are either telling the truth or you are not, depending on the real origination of the funds. Nothing has changed in that regard. At all. Please show where any official announcment makes any reference anywhere to linking a tax clearance certificate to extension renewal. Stop scaremongering. Please. PH
  23. But he will also have Thai exemptions and allowances...maybe go work out how much will be due on some real life European pensions that are not exempt under that country's DTA. (hint: In most cases, even when assessable, will be minimial liabilty) PH
  24. Depends on the source. Most US and UK Government pensions, for example, are non-asseable. PH
