You are not going to buy a motorbike without actually seeing it,????

so you say i would be better travelling to say Bangkok and inspecting the bike there ?
which involves 10 hr drive each way, plus quarantine on return, rather than let the owner ship so i can see here ?

Yes .
If he is confident its worth the money, then he should have no problem doing this ?
But not sure how that works with the paperwork

so i wouldn't see it when it arrives at my door, and would not inspect and ride before actually buying it ?
Same as if i went to see at the owners home, inspect, ride and then pay if ok , surely ?

What lockdowns ?
no travel to certain provinces, without quarantine on return

Hi there
Any advice would be much appreciated
Im looking at buying a bike, and see many on Marketplace, but none local
due to the lockdowns too, its a problem even viewing them
I've heard of people having the bike shipped to their home, then after inspection, paying the owner , while the shipping guy waits
But how does this work with the paperwork and book ?
No problem at my end to change ownership, this would be in a Thais name here, , but does he sign the book, and give power of attorney letter ?
I would pay the shipping fee upfront i guess
Thanks

I always roll window down and demand to see photo, and say, no photo, no pay !
Some times works, lol
But i always empty my wallet apart from maybe 40 baht, so when pulled, say no money and show the wallet
Also works if you carry 500 baht in small coins, and say its all you have got, and proceed to pour them out on the table, which usually then involves a lot of arm waving and told to go >

Ah, another medical expert. TV seems to be replete with them.
You're in an operating theatre, the surgeon is about to cut you open. You won't mind if all the theatre staff discard their masks because they are a nuisance, will you?
ahh, another one
So the surgeons operating in the hospitals wear the same cheap masks that the majority if people in Thailand wear ?
I think not .
Do they wear it under their noses like a lot of Thais do ?

278 deaths to date out of 66 million in over 16 months
So far, so good
Not quite the thousands that people were quoting to happen a couple of weeks after Songkran , but still rising slowly so far
-
he complains about hiding the symptoms, but for many people, they will have little or no symptoms
If its just like a cold or a dose of light flu initially, how many will rush to notify the responders or hospitals, until it gets bad ?
If you think you might have the infection, do you go to the hospital ? If so, how does that work without spreading it to others

I am amazed at how low the bills are that some people are reporting. Starting to think maybe I should accelerate planned replacement of very old air conditioners.
For the last 2 years my bills have ranged from slightly under 2,000 baht in times when weather was cool enough that not using a/c but not so hot as to be using huge amounts of water on the garden (water pump usage), to over 7,000 at height of the hot season with a/c on all the time etc.
Granted I have 2 households on the meter and my house is very large (2 story, about 250 sq meter on each floor. The other house is small and no a/c, but 3 people and its own large vegetable garden so using the water pump a lot). Can anyone with similarly large house comment?
My a/c units are very, very old and maximum bill used to be more like 5,000. They (the a/cs) work but have become very noisy and as I recall, last time I replaced my a/cs the bills came way down.
From what I can tell, a/cs and water pump are the main things affected my usage. I do not have dishwasher or washing machine.
Just got my leccy bill , 2,450 baht, not the highest, but almost
2 air cons, one on all night, one maybe 4-6 hours a day
Usual washing machine, fridge, microwave, cooker, fans, tv, water pump, etc.
But it also includes the shop leccy, with air con unit, 3-6 hours daily, 2 freezers, drinks cabinet, fans, drinks machine and blenders, lights

An International driving licence is never valid for 10 years (at least mine isn't);
Mine never was either, but apparently his was .

I can never understand why the Thai police don; enforce moving violations, unsafe loads, spot checks, etc
Think how much more money they could earn, while just sitting/riding around the highways
Would make the checkpoint collections look like petty cash

You won't get an International Driving licence in Thailand.
Even having one, I think it allows you only to drive for 6 months in Thailand and you have to apply for a Thai driving licence.
Without any proof of having a valid DL, he can't just go in and apply for a Thai DL and probably has to go through the procedure and do the necessary tests.
That's what i thought, but he keeps saying he should get an international licence. He;s been driving on the 10 year one for at least 6 years without problems, police seem to accept it without bother
Its just he now has no licence of any kind to show if stopped, only a letter from the police when he reported the loss
And they would not give a date for new driving tests
So what happens if he gets stopped by the police, would the letter suffice, or is it a fine each time ?
He needs the car due to living in the middle of Nakon nowhere, so no option but to drive
Thanks AlfHuy

A bit different, but
Does anyone know how to get a Thai driving license , or a international license /permit I
Friend has lost his wallet a while ago with his 10 year international permit inside
It appears he does not have a British licence, which expired, and lost, over 5 years ago. He is 77 years old
Went to licence dept., told no can do without British licence
Told only way is to take a test, but told no tests allowed , and no date when they will be
Thanks

But it is pretty sure the information about the death was transmitted up the food chain to the district.
maybe so, but no autopsy and no testing ?
Just like in our village, maybe 5 people in the last couple of weeks, including Grandma. No police, no autopsies , just put in coolbox till burning time
Its been great here for the local <deleted> heads, free beer and food every day .

The reports from Bangkok are the streets are dead. This is how you squash the virus in it's tracks. They are freaked out about the virus. There are good and bad in all our societies.
Thais follow the rules ??
Yes, but only if it suits them
Here in Isaan , they wear masks on bikes, but no lights, license or helmets
They wear a mask to enter the stores, then either remove it, or lower it under the nose
Social distancing, ? Never heard, never seen unless in government buildings
Drinking , partying ? maybe not in most bars, but plenty in houses and gardens,
Social distancing ? What's that ?

You seem a little unclear on the concept of risk.
Road accidents have a very high probability of killing 20-40,000 people a year, and a low probability of killing 100,000+ people a year.
Covid-19 has a medium probability of killing 100,000+ people a year for a country with 70 million residents.
So how many died last year from high probability, and how many died from medium probability ?
Risk.?
Which is a greater risk for the majority of folks on here, dying on the road, dying one the job, dying on the toilet, or dying from Covid ?

Many have a healthy respect of the virus and restrictions. Where our variants are running rampant right now, we have athletes in their 30's in ICU, and people from 30-50 are dying in record numbers. The long term health effects of the virus is one thing that people don't talk about at all. It's debilitating and in some cases can last for over a year. Many thanks to 90 percent of people who take this seriously.
Thanks
Any numbers on these athletes in ICUs ?
People 30-50 dying in record numbers , from what ? Any numbers for these ?
Thousands of these die each day from illnesses and road kill,
Long term effects , yup, just like the people who get severe flu , mostly elderly and people with underlying illnesses , which is one thing that people don't talk about

Back in 2020, when there were 15 cases in the USA, Trump and his gang sang the same song: only 15 cases, it's contained, no big deal, etc.
wow, in the USA ?
but i thought this was Thailand, not the good ol US of A
328 million in USA, different climates, different people, different laws, so a bit pointless
but if your gunna start picking and choosing other countries to try and make your point look good, I choose Tonga. No deaths last year, no deaths this year, and still no lockdowns

Relatively speaking, Brazil and India are really bad. You are ignoring the reality that the epidemic has swamped their capabilities, and they can’t handle the sick or the dead.
2 minutes ago, Danderman123 said:You seem fixated on the low numbers of deaths from Covid due to the very low numbers of infections. IF there were a breakout of the virus as in other countries, deaths would be in the many thousands, and you would be singing another song.
Since road accidents are not communicable, there is no danger to the total population, but, as in Brazil and India, enough deaths and infections, and all of society can be at risk.
If you ever watch a zombie movie, even you would be worried by the appearance of one zombie, even though one zombie is easily dealt with. The problem is later on, when there are many zombies. Then, you get the zombie apocalypse, and then the malls are closed.
Nice, but this is not a movie, Is it ?
Road kill not a danger to the population ? 26,000 ton 30,000 die each year in Thailand , , 2,000 a month, and Covid has killed how many. 14 a month ?
Low numbers of infections ? Everyone on here keeps harping about massive increase in infections , with no corresponding rise in deaths
IF, is such a good word isn't it , says so much, yet means so little
But we have not got the breakout like other countries have we, so no song to sing. Maybe this fat farang will sing different tune later, but until them maybe not
Just to remind you , this is about Thailand, not Brazil or India

If these restrictions seem unreasonable to anyone, tell me again when the death toll is over 100,000
ok, i will wait, possibly a very long time , or never to tell you again
Perhaps you could come back and tell us again when it get over 50,000 ?,
178 deaths ( 28/3/21) out of 66 million in 16 months. Any other year would not be worthy of a mention /
Why bother with such draconian measures, why not just let the poor people starve in their homes ?

People still get out and about during lockdowns. I've been through 2 so far and we were still able to go to Makro, the beach, fresh market. People were working, had jobs, etc. Not sure what you're on about....but it's wrong. Sure, many are suffering. But they'd suffer more if we didn't lock down. Don't forget about the mental health of those who've lost loved ones. As you may know, death of a close relative is the most stressful thing that can happen to an individual.
Mental health of loved ones ??
You mean the 170 in 16 months from Covid, or the many many thousands of deaths from other road kill and sicknesses ?

still debate on what should be done, how and how fast, look at these numbers first :
ONLY Apr, 2021 accumulated (projected)
from 26 to 36,000+CASES Jan 2020 to Mar 2021 (15 months) vs Apr 2021 (projected)
28,863 | 36,000+DEATH Jan 2020 to Mar 2021 (15 months) vs Apr 2021 (projected)
94 | 100+projected numbers ??
so not facts, just conjecture ?

Thanks
I spoke to a guy about a month ago who did the same thing, inspected and paid on arrival, but also then paid for the shipping
but unfortunately did not get chance to ask any details on how he did this
