And was there universal masking and lockdowns when the flue was prevalent? I don't recall that being the case. Do you?  This year the flu has virtually disappeared worldwide. And no, it's not because flu cases are being misidentified. Actual samples have been drawn from various populations and there's virtually no flu virus to be found. And that's because it's far less contagious than covid 19. So social distancing and masking are even more effective in containing the flu.

Any numbers on these non existent flu virus infections and deaths

Seem to be a few in the local hospital in ICUs

So if we continue to work from home, keep schools closed , halt travel and wear mask all the time, the flu virus will be kept low ? Just like the Covid

421 deaths, not much difference in numbers but a difference to the families they left behind. Its more a case of you not keeping up really.

This virus is far more deadly than the flu and without measures imposed will over run the health service into total collapse. Yes the government will contain it eventually with its measures and vaccines. Until then we have to hope the numbers do not go up and they test, trace and treat as much as possible

Sorry did not check the still low numbers today

So 421 deaths in 17 months, out of 66 million ?

average flu deaths 3,000 every 12 months

Remind me again, which is killing the most people ?

sure go ahead come with all kind of explanations on why NOT to wear a mask, make a problem for police and all other people.

you are not in your own country. just wear the freaking mask just like all Thai people.

I wear a mask, just like Thai people, sometimes properly, sometimes just my mouth, sometimes under my chin, or even, go commando, and not wear one at all

In Robinsons today, everyone i saw was wearing a mask, but many not covering nose. Outside, lots of Thais, not wearing a mask at all

Indoors i wear one, unless in a crowded food hall, then i take mine off, like everyone else, but outside, or in a car, or on the motorbike , no mask

    Having problems getting a test?

The CCSA reported 1,630 new COVID-19 cases and 22 more deaths today (Monday), including two who died on the same day they tested positive and seven others who perished within a week of becoming infected.

    https://www.thaipbsworld.com/thailand-records-1630-new-covid-19-cases-and-22-more-fatalities-on-monday/

so far so good, 399 deaths out of 66 million in 17 months

while Flu virus kills more than 4,00 each year, (12 months)

So far higher chance for all the oldies on here to die from the flu virus, than the covid

These days I see a lot of bikes bought remotely, on Facebook there are many dealers who do this, then take a photo of successful delivery with the happy buyer, it's as common as ordering a blender online....! ????

You need to pay for shipping to you "and"  for return (that would be like a deposit), you can inspect the bike on arrival, not sure about a test drive though. Pay after via bank transfer or cash, if you changed your mind, they take it back, you already paid for that return....

But it's a bit risky, buyer lose a lot if change his mind, you can ask them to do a video call and go around the bike and start it etc. and see it clearly - done it for me..., all paperwork will be in order for you to do the transfer later..., can check.

Saying that these guys give a lot of discount for the risk and remote buying, you can haggle and you get it, I nearly bought one, but changed my mind, regret it now...!

Visually you can see the bike is in good shape, as for the engine and other stuff, sometime they give one month warranty..., I think the most important thing is to check if the seller is part of a big dealer shop, and check their account history to see if they do this a lot and have experience, I wouldn't do this with a private seller...

The prices for bikes in Bangkok is over 20 or 30% cheaper than equivalent in Phuket, and have a lot more variety. I bought my last bike flying to Patong, buy and ride it back, 1000km but in a relax 3 days...???? , will do the same for my next bike, maybe BKK,  Phuket bikes all overpriced, ex-rental rubbish, or dealer bought it from BKK and brought it here to sell for a hefty profit....!

Good luck, I have Facebook account for big bikes for a lot of them if you need it ....

    Thanks Agusts, much appreciated

this is what i thought it would be, just need to find the right bike at the right price and then someone who will also ship for inspection

I believe some of the big bike shops will do this, but wil look and ask

Its either do this, or wait till later in the year when i can travel to Bangkok and places without the quarantine on return

Any help for bike would be very much appreciated . can in box me if you have time

    Thanks again for your help

ahh righto, that I did not know.

    Which provinces ?

Bangkok, Khon kaen , Udon Thani

Looking at a few out there, so no decision yet on province

    Thanks

I spoke to a guy about a month ago who did the same thing, inspected and paid on arrival, but also then paid for the shipping

but unfortunately did not get chance to ask any details on how he did this

You are not going to buy a motorbike without actually seeing it,????

    regards Worgeordie

so you say i would be better travelling to say Bangkok and inspecting the bike there ?

which involves 10 hr drive each way, plus quarantine on return, rather than let the owner ship so i can see here ?

So you are saying the seller is sending the bike to you,for you to see and test,

if you like ,you buy, if not send it back ?.

    regards Worgeordie

    Yes .

If he is confident its worth the money, then he should have no problem doing this ?

But not sure how that works with the  paperwork

  8. Hi there

Any advice would be much appreciated

Im looking at buying a bike, and see many on Marketplace, but none local

due to the lockdowns too, its a problem even viewing them

I've heard of people having the bike shipped to their home, then after inspection, paying the owner , while the shipping guy waits

But how does this work with the paperwork and book ?

No problem at my end to change ownership, this would be in a Thais name here, , but does he sign the book, and give power of attorney letter ?

I would pay the shipping fee upfront i guess

    Thanks

  9. I always roll window down and demand to see photo, and say, no photo, no pay !

    Some times works, lol

But i always empty my wallet apart from maybe 40 baht, so when pulled, say no money and show the wallet

Also works if you carry 500 baht in small coins, and say its all you have got, and proceed to pour them out on the table, which usually then involves a lot of arm waving and told to go >

Ah, another medical expert. TV seems to be replete with them.

You're in an operating theatre, the surgeon is about to cut you open. You won't mind if all the theatre staff discard their masks because they are a nuisance, will you?

    ahh, another one

So the surgeons operating in the hospitals wear the same cheap masks that the majority if people in Thailand wear ?

    I think not .

Do they wear it under their noses like a lot of Thais do ?

I am amazed at how low the bills are that some people are reporting. Starting to think maybe I should accelerate planned replacement of very old air conditioners.

For the last 2 years my bills have ranged from slightly under 2,000 baht in times when weather was cool enough that not using a/c but not so hot as to be using huge amounts of water on the garden (water pump usage), to over 7,000 at height of the hot season with a/c on all the time etc.

Granted I have 2 households on the meter and my house is very large (2 story, about 250 sq meter on each floor. The other house is small and no a/c, but 3 people and its own large vegetable garden so using the water pump a lot). Can anyone with similarly large  house comment?

My a/c units are very, very old and maximum bill used to be more like 5,000. They (the a/cs) work but have become very noisy and as I recall, last time I replaced my a/cs the bills came way down.

From what I can tell, a/cs and water pump are the main things affected my usage. I do not have dishwasher or washing machine.

Just got my leccy bill , 2,450 baht, not the highest, but almost

2 air cons, one on all night, one maybe 4-6 hours a day

Usual washing machine, fridge, microwave, cooker, fans, tv, water pump, etc.

But it also includes the shop leccy, with air con unit, 3-6 hours daily, 2 freezers, drinks cabinet, fans, drinks machine and blenders, lights

You won't get an International Driving licence in Thailand.

Even having one, I think it allows you only to drive for 6 months in Thailand and you have to apply for a Thai driving licence.

Without any proof of having a valid DL, he can't just go in and apply for a Thai DL and probably has to go through the procedure and do the necessary tests.

That's what i thought, but he keeps saying he should get an international licence. He;s been driving on the 10 year one for at least 6 years without problems, police seem to accept it without bother

Its just he now has no licence of any kind to show if stopped, only a letter from the police when he reported the loss

And they would not give a date for new driving tests

So what happens if he gets stopped by the police, would the letter suffice, or is it a fine each time ?

He needs the car due to living in the middle of Nakon nowhere, so no option but to drive

    Thanks AlfHuy
