  1. Tax often brings down the biggest crooks as it’s the easiest to prove. Al Capone and many others since have been locked up for tax evasion.
  2. I’m sure they are getting a chunk of “tax” for all legal hooch. Just how this place rolls.
  3. My insurance covers me for cancer as I have been treated and cured here in Thailand. If I didn’t have coverage I would fly home and get treated there. I feel for the sick but am continually amazed at how many people don’t get fully insured when in Thailand. Fortunately my work covers the $3500 bill each year as well as the mandatory group company insurance , but I would pay it myself if they did t as I take full responsibility for myself. Not enough here do and then look to go fund me pages.
  4. Vegan food is everywhere in Thailand. My partner is vegan. Just tell them not to add meat and you then get all the nice Thai flavours without the meat. Try Broccoli Revolution in Sukhumvit Road.
  5. I used to pay them almost monthly as I drive the Chonburi BKK route daily. You soon know where they are and sometimes forget to slow down. Friends laughed that I was paying them so I stopped to see what would happen. That was 3 years ago and no ramifications.
  6. I have had a work permit here for 10 years and seeing how much documentation the company has to present I can imagine how many hands would have to be greased to get this through. i also had to pull out all of my degrees and job history to justify issuing my permit. They even cross checked a few! Has to be an easier cheaper way.
  7. Mauritius is interesting. I have spent a lot of time there and it is expensive and full of honeymooners. Internet is not outstanding. Lots of banks to hide your money in though.
  8. I play golf 3 times a week and get enough beers in there to get by. They only closed courses for 1 week last year.
  9. If they logged the fines properly instead of putting the money in their pocket they would certainly have a profit. Too many snouts in the trough.
  10. If Australia has an 80% vaccination rate and has averaged 35,000 cases in the last 7 days (48,000 today) surely Thailand with 3 times the population could easily get to 50,000cases a day.
  11. Listen to Robert Malone on Joe Rogan. He tells all the best drugs to use as he invented Moderna and now been kicked off mainstream social media.
  12. I have about 20-25 drinks a week and consider that normal compared to what I used to do years ago. Now 55 and lived in Thailand for 10 years. Told my doctor in Australia how much I drink and asked if I drink too much? His reply…”no worries, come back when you drink more than me”
  13. I remember when Thai govt was calling farangs dirty and “only 10% of the economy” I think they are realising the trickle down effect of tourism and it has gone from 10-15-20% of the economy. living here for many years and seeing the downturn it feels like a lot more. As I type this on the beach in Hua Hin near front of Hilton @ 7pm all deck chairs from food vendors are being put away. Things ain’t good!
  14. I work in an industrial area and often see 30+ people jammed into a baht bus like sardines and hanging off the back….most not wearing masks. If it’s going to spread anywhere it will be here. Fortunately Omicron is mild and we all need to move on. Funny how nobody has died from the regular flu in the last couple years.
  15. Most Thais apart from those who don’t rely on them for income don’t want foreigners here. That rings particularly true with middle to upper Thais.
  16. They certainly aren’t looking for him too hard. Money easily buys silence in Thailand.
  17. Policeman didn’t decline my 500thb after accusing me of doing an illegal right hand turn this week. The fine was 400 so 500 saved me a trip to the station. This will never stop and I even keep change in my car for when I get pulled over often for no reason.
  18. I see endless road violations daily as do the Police. Nothing will be done. Another initiative pretending they actually Police.
  19. All money welcome into the Kingdom. Regardless who brings it in.
  20. There is no capital gains on your dwelling. If selling investment property you need to check criteria on whether required within the financial year you sell to ensure you are a resident for tax purposes. Most people will be and will be exempt from capital gains. I have been through it all to prove the opposite that I am NOT a resident for tax purposes and there are key points that are non negotiable. Eg, how many days are you out of the country. Where is your main income derived. What shares / property etc do you own etc. Marital status…do you intend returning etc. Also, I have inherited property since away and if I choose to sell I must reside in Australia for 2 years and lodge tax returns accordingly or I pay capital gains tax.
  21. I generally pay 20% on goods purchased over $1000.00 Last month I was charged 50% on $1500.00 on some apparel purchased from Hong Kong and paid it. I contacted my customs agent through my work and he said there is no way around it. When I relocated here 10 years again I even had to pay 20% on personal goods sent in 5 boxes which was a taste of things to come. If you do not pay the duty the goods are referred to the forwarder and the sender is notified. If the sender refuses to pay return freight the goods go into storage for 12 months and if not claimed they are then “given a home”
  22. I wonder how much this second violation cost them. Police would only keep going back if they get some $$
