IKEA Goes Cashless at Key Thai Stores Amid Mixed Reactions
While it is possible to steal your wallet and cash on the street, I think it is worse when they transfer your cash from 10 meters away.

Thailand to Test Nationwide Emergency Alerts on 50 Million Devices
A good idea to test an emergency system. Having it go wrong on the day is the worst scenario.

World Now Knows POTUS is Both Weak and Dumb
It looks like these posts containing information that is already on every news program and in every newspaper are not adding much to the conversation. Perhaps there is nothing happening in the world.

His family will be so proud of him. Anyone who has visited a Thai prison will know how bad they are. 25 to a cell? Yurgh.

I Love to Touch You When We Walk: But,..."OK in Thailand"?
Friend saw an old American and his similarly aged wife get out of a boat at Phi Phi. He was grasping her arm. Two old fishermen on the beach. One sighed and said, "So old, but she can still sell herself." True story.

Pattaya Police Raid Luxury Poker Den, Arrest Thais and Foreigners
Casinos may end illegal gambling by foreign tourists but Thais will not be allowed access so this kind of local casino will continue to thrive.

Has your girlfriend got a joke or ever said anything funny ever?
Humor is about culture. If someone is not from your country, they might not get your jokes, but they get local humor. She Who Must Be Obeyed bursts out laughing when watching interviews of Thais. I have one joke in Thai that has people laughing out loud. I have brought the house down at lectures and weddings, but westerners will never get it. "Excuse me if my tones when I speak Thai are flat, but my wife comes from Suphanburi." It sounds better in Thai.

Thai PM Tackles Overstaying Tourists with Visa-Free Scheme Revamp
I thought that immigration had an electronic record of who entered and when. If they compared that with the electronic record of when those people left, if at all, surely it would set off red flags?

UK Faces Countdown to Reject WHO’s Expanding Pandemic Powers
Before Brexit, people were told the EU was after the country's national sovereignty. Small things like crowns on beer glasses raised the ire of Brits who were told the EU controlled what you could put on glasses. After Brexit, it was suddenly revealed that the crowns were allowed all along. The Tories really messed with people's minds. Now here comes Suella to frighten people again.

Thailand Declines US Loan Deal for F-16 Jets Over Tough Terms
It makes sense to rely less on the U.S. for military equipment and perhaps turn to other competent, less expensive, sources. Better still, improve maintenance on what you have and spend the money on improving the economy at home.

A modest proposal for an addition to the member profile information.
Tattoos are for life. If you have ever seen an 80-year-old covered in tattoos you will know how ugly they look as they fade. I know someone who tattooed his girlfriend's name on his arm. Later, they separated, and he found another girl he would later marry. In those days there was no tattoo removal, so he had someone cover it with a tattoo of a bird. Whoopsie. Then there is God. Leviticus 19:28 in the Old Testament states, "You shall not make any cuts on your body for the dead or tattoo yourselves: I am the Lord."

Red Bull Heir at Centre as High-Profile Corruption Verdict Looms
If the two are found guilty, and do flee the country, I would expect a red notice to be issued because, whereas Boss was not found guilty, they will have been.

White House Revamps COVID-19 Website to Promote Lab Leak Theory
Could you provide a link stating that Fauci worked for the military please? I read he worked for the NIH, which is not a military organization. The NIH is an agency of the Public Health Service of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Also, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, which is not a military organization. I understand it was founded in the Marine Hospital but is actually part of the United States Department of Health and Human Services. Just curious where you read this.

Why haven't you learned Thai even after several years as an expat in Thailand?
I found that learning Thai from a book doesn't help tonally but context allows Thais to understand. I used The Fundamentals of Thai Language (The Fundamentals of the Thai Language (Fifth Edition): Stuart Campbell, Chuan Shaweevongs: Amazon.com: Books) which is rather old now. I still don't get the tones right but people understand me.

An Enormous Usurpation’: Inside the Case Against Trump’s Tariffs
The more I read the more I think there are people who don't understand why trade deficits exist. A trade deficit is when we buy more (if we are in a rich, developed country) because we are richer than a country that is... not as rich. Also, having a larger population, of course this requires greater volume of purchases. The less rich country doesn't buy the same amount from the richer developed country because it is relatively poorer. The less rich country is not ripping off the richer country: it simply cannot afford to buy an equal amount. In simple terms, the USA buys $100 of goods from a less rich country because it has that $100 to spend. A less rich country may only have $25 to spend, so it just cannot afford to buy $100 worth of goods. It's not rocket science.
