But for some posters to suggest paying agents etc. for a drivers license seems unnecessary, for the actual time and preparation required to do it yourself. My experience obtaining a 5 year license last month and my initial 2 year license at the Mueang Surin DLT, differ somewhat from other posters. When I applied for the 2 year license they required my passport with copy of photo and visa pages, yellow book, valid foreign license (US), IDP and medical certificate. The video was required and the color blind, reaction and depth perception tests. For the 5 year license they required Thai license, passport with copies, yellow book + residency certificate or pink id card (which I had), medical certificate, color blind and reaction tests. During both applications, the staff filled out all the processing forms and I signed one form verify that my personal info was correctly spell and my signature for the drivers license imprint.

I suggest the OP should expand his shopping experience beyond Tesco-Lotus. From my seven plus years of shopping in Mueang Surin at Big C, Tesco, Makro and Tops, I find that Big C generally has lower prices on meat, vegetables and other food products than Tesco and somethings are comparable to Makro. Makro generally has lower prices on bulk or pre-packaged produce, meats and some dairy products, plus they stock items the other three don't have. Tops Market has higher prices on most of their produce, meat and frozen foods, but does offer stock unavailable at the other stores. Yesterday, I shopped at Big C and some of the things I bought were cabbage, potatoes and onions each priced 39 baht kg. Large imported tomatoes for 75 baht kg. (Tops price 145 kg) 30ct eggs on sale 87 baht. Two rotisserie cooked chickens 99 baht each. Rising prices are inevitable, but higher prices haven't forced me to reduce my spending for products that I prefer.

I entered the office at 10:45 and besides the staff, I was the only person there. I was informed I would have make an appointment and return next Thursday. Besides the paperwork I had with me, they also required either a pink id card or a residence certificate from immigration. I opted for the pink card. My new license still uses my passport number as the id number. Only the reaction and color tests where required.
