You mention that your friend can start transfers Aug. Extension due Feb so he could show ~ 6 transfers. Should be sufficient. No doubt there will be reports well prior to your friends renewal. Worst case scenario for others would be to border bounce and start over with visa exempt entry. Not being rude to your friend however there will be many with income method (letter) that have not followed the actual requirements. For example used irregular much bigger transfers every eg 3 months etc. Canadians just like other countries citizens that do not provide embassy letter can still use income method. Don't think immigration can help with advice at this point as would not be aware of any "amnesty rules" even if there will be any.

Non-Imm-O: Marriage vs. Retirement based
DrJack54 replied to XGM's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
That won't be an issue. Ongoing do you plan to use money in bank or income method for extensions. BTW: For your first extension based on retirement having switched from based on marriage your wife will need to attend immigration with you. For subsequent extensions (retirement) she is not required. -
Non-Imm-O: Marriage vs. Retirement based
DrJack54 replied to XGM's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
A Non O-A visa is a multi entry visa that is valid for one year from date of issue. During it's validity, every time you enter Thailand you are stamped in for 12 months. So ...if you exit and reenter just prior to expiry you receive another 12 month stamp. Hence you can obtain 2 years stay out of the visa. After which you would either obtain a new Non O-A OR start obtaining extensions. Note: Insurance required. A Non O retirement is a single entry Visa. When you enter Thailand the visa is "used" and you are given a 90 day stamp. In the last 30 days of that stamp you apply for 12 months extension. This has financial requirements. Note: Insurance not required. For extensions from a Non O-A and a Non O (retirement) the financials are exactly the same however the extensions from the Non O-A require insurance. Guys with a Non O-A and able to base their extension on marriage then Insurance is not required. Note: The very first extension from a Non O-A would have to be based on retirement. Note non O-A can only be obtained in own country or country where you have resident status. Non O retirement can be obtained at most places outside of Thailand. Previously at consulate/embassies and now using eVisa. The Non O-A previously was a ripper Visa when it had no insurance requirement. Especially for those that returned home every couple of years and also did not wish to have funds sitting in a Thai bank. Not surprising that many folk with a Non O-A stamp and needing extensions based on retirement decided to exit Thailand at some point without reentry permit to Kill Off the Non O-A. Reenter Thailand and obtain a Non O retirement reason being no insurance requirement. Note: Also Non O-A application has some requirements that Non O does not such as Criminal background report, medical, etc. Outlined here. https://www.mfa.go.th/en/page/non-immigrant-visa-o-a?menu=5e1ff71bc4281a00c812e8e2 -
Non-Imm-O: Marriage vs. Retirement based
DrJack54 replied to XGM's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Didn't read the thread however guys on extensions marriage should be aware that if wife passes then your current permission of stay (should) remain valid till expiry. In the event of divorce your permission of stay is done. -
ETA won't happen in near future.

Non-Imm-O: Marriage vs. Retirement based

Depends on immigration office. For example in attached thread some offices do home visit every year https://aseannow.com/topic/1318003-io-home-visits/ -

Non-Imm-O: Marriage vs. Retirement based
DrJack54 replied to XGM's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Stop being pedantic. Of course he would need to obtain a work permit. The point is he cannot obtain a work permit with an extension based on retirement. He can with extension based on marriage -
Not required. Very detailed list in this link. Refer to #5. https://bangkok.immigration.go.th/en/onlineservice-and-publicguide/ Still better just hand your pp to photocopy joint next to immigration and they will copy required pages of pp required. Even more better obtain reentry permit at airport and have them do everything including TM8 and photo. 200b

If he "starts over" he is in same boat as the other folk without income letter. To use income method he would need to show 12 monthly transfers. For that reason you see those starting over or just obtaining Non O retirement for first time ....use money in bank method. Will be useless in start over process Edit: one caveat.... immigration may cut some slack. Perhaps only requiring 6 month of transfers for next extension. Thinking something like this occurred back in 2018/19 when letters were dropped for UK,USA, AU citizens

Non-Imm-O: Marriage vs. Retirement based

I mentioned in my first post . That only applies to extensions from a Non O-A. If extension based on retirement insurance required. If based on marriage no insurance required. -
Non-Imm-O: Marriage vs. Retirement based
DrJack54 replied to XGM's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Yes the under consideration period can sometimes be longer than a month. That's an issue for eg Roster workers such as oil/gas etc. Some folk don't mind the home visit. For me it's a deal breaker. A minor consideration and perhaps more for others..... If you divorce then with marriage extension then that extension ends. -
True. For some reason I have always found that strange. But them the rules.

You can apply anytime. The form has a departure date field. Put any date you like Edit: assume you are on extensions from a Non O-A and not actual valid Non O-A visa Here is TM8 form https://www.diald.nu.ac.th/download/International Service/Overseas Staff/05 Re-Entry Permit/Form TM.8.pdf The form is double sided. You print it that way. Meaning end up with one sheet form. Assume that you are aware that reentry permit is also available at airport on departure

Non-Imm-O: Marriage vs. Retirement based
DrJack54 replied to XGM's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Based on retirement. 1. No home visit 2. Far less paperwork 3. No under consideration period 4. Wife does not need to attend immigration with you. 5. etc Based on marriage. 1. Extremely easy financials 2. You can work 3. No insurance requirement for extensions from a Non O-A 4. etc https://aseannow.com/topic/1313160-which-is-preferable-a-marriage-visa-or-a-retirement-visa/ https://aseannow.com/topic/1311246-retirement-visa-versus-marriage-visa-which-is-best/ -
The only difference is what you need to show for financial requirements. For first extension only need to show 800k in Thai bank account seasoned for 2 months. Immigration should accept your bankbook photocopies. Other requirements are the same as ongoing extension reports. Edit: after you obtain the extension please report your experience. In particular what was required for proof of address. My first ever extension I had a lease. Not TM30. Guessing you plan on providing TM30 minimum
