  2. So the batteries last 8 years? Is that why some EV manufacturers give a lifetime warranty on the battery? Fast DC chargers split the power across 2 ports, some chargers are powerful enough not to slow down with the average EV.

  4. You are Cherry Picking (note no childish emoji), taking the first 6 months of this year compared to last year, Toyota's market share dropped from 34.5% to 27.9% this year. Passenger cars! where EV's have appeared, it's abundantly clear where this goes.
  5. I have a problem with this graphic. Hydrogen is made 2 ways. In the first we use the most expensive electricity on the planet (Nuclear produced) and waste a third of it producing Hydrogen (the 33% waste is Oxygen). In the 2nd way, I assume we are talking about water splitting, it uses a lot of energy, energy that could be used spinning a turbine making electricity, a similar amount of energy to Electrolysis, again equally expensive.

There is a scenario where I think we might see hydrogen cars alongside BEV’s. if there is a shortage of lithium, or it becomes cheaper to make a hydrogen car that is cheaper than a BEV then they could be offered alongside BEV’s. They will be much more expensive to run, which will have to make them cheaper to buy, and if there’s a shortage of lithium, then BEV cars will be more expensive, and market dynamics will take care of the rest. BEV.’s will be everybody’s first choice, but if they can’t afford it, they will go to hydrogen. When I said there is a Toyota Mirai abandoned at a Norway hydrogen station that has closed, I didn’t mean for a day or two, it’s been there for a year. There may be some countries where BEV is not practical. I think it’s already too late for hydrogen cars to takeoff, people love BEV, they love waking up with a full tank of fuel and the Cost to run is so cheap
  12. I guess you didn’t read my post about the cost of hydrogen being four or five times more than electricity? And perhaps you didn’t read my post about the countries that have tried hydrogen cars and failed? There are abandoned Toyota Mirai’s in Norway at closed hydrogen, fueling stations, customers have just left them and walked away. I do know about hydrogen production, and it is needed for the markets I specified, long range trucks, and PSV’s, but you won’t be seeing it in passenger cars anytime soon.
  13. You raise an interesting point (repeatedly). What makes a car Thai? or Chinese? or Swedish? Is it ownership of the company? where it's designed? where the parts come from? Does it make a difference whether it's a CKD (complete knock down) or a full assembly? In the case of Volvo, it's Chinese owned, designed partially in Sweden and partially in Shanghai. I don't have an analysis of where the parts come from but I suspect Thai models are mostly Chinese parts assembled in China. In the case of MG, it's Chinese owned, designed partially in the UK and partially in China, in the Thai market the parts come from China where it's assembled. How can one of these be Chinese and not the other?
  14. I think that's called Pink Hydrogen IIRC. McKinsey discounted it. There is only country say they are going to do it, that would be Japan and I don't believe they will, I think their auto-manufacturers had some input on that announcement. It's not going to happen.

  17. The cost and inconvenience of Hydrogen means it will never replace BEV's. People keep saying the cost will drop and processes will improve, however even with perfect efficiencies in each process, it will still be 3 to 4 times more expensive per kilometer. If governments started subsidising Hydrogen, that would make a difference, but no government can afford that. The McKinsey report on Hydrogen says it will be used in trucks and PSV's, not cars, and for the reasons I've outlined. We've tried Hydrogen cars, the experiment in every country it's been tried ended in failure.

  19. Volvo are shifting some production of the EX30 and EX90 to Belgium. Would it surprise you to know that the EX90 was predominantly designed in Shanghai? I don't have the figures for the EX30 but I strongly suspect it was too. You are clinging onto the hope that Volvo is Swedish, it isn't it's Chinese.

  21. The issue with making Hydrogen is you have to put a lot of energy into breaking the chemical bonds with whatever it is bonded too. If you break the Methane molecule it produces pollution, water is the obvious choice but a third of the energy put into the process is lost. We may see Hydrogen used in trucks, buses and other commercial vehicles, but we won't see it in passenger cars unless there is a shortage of Lithium, and even then I think people will prefer Sodium Ion batteries. The only advantage it has for transport is it is clean, the disadvantages are enormous, it's bulky and takes up too much space, it's explosive, it's under a dangerously high pressure, it takes too long to refuel, but the biggest kicker is it is 5 times more expensive and basic chemistry says you can't improve much on that. People have tried Hydrogen, they don't like the experience. People have tried BEV, they love the experience. The rest is down to market dynamics.
  22. I never said all Volvo cars are made in China, though I'm fairly sure all those destined for Thailand are. MG have a design team in London too, they designed the Cyberster there, it's still a Chinese car. The Volvo cars sold in Thailand are Chinese, they may have been designed in Sweden but last time I checked, the Swedish end was run by a Chinese guy. All Electric Volvo's are Chinese, would you dispute that?
  23. We will have to disagree on that. MG's design team is in London, but they are still Chinese cars. It's doubly true since they went plug-in Hybrid. Polestar cars are also Chinese, though it's owned by Volvo which is owned by Geely. Made in China, Chinese cars.
  24. Volvo has no experience with batteries or electric motors, do you seriously believe that is all Swedish? Volvo's are Chinese cars.
  25. Both Volvo & MG are Chinese cars.
