Fistfight in Pattaya Leaves Australian Tourist With Head Injuries
Mike Teavee replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
I'm sure there's a queue of guys waiting to take his "Crown" & I have to confess in my younger days I've made a dick of myself enough times to know that if I wasn't 57 I would probably be in the queue. Difference being I did it for 1 drunken night then was really apologetic/ sheepish (embarrassed) for 3-4 days, seems this guy went at it until somebody stopped him. -

Question About Visa Renewal
Mike Teavee replied to BangkokHank's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
All reports thus far are that the "2 Copies of all papers" are only for Marriage Extensions at CW but if a copy costs 2b how much would it cost to have 2 Copies of everything anyway? Yes a Non-Imm O Visa Extension is exactly the same as a Non-Imm OA extension save for you don't need the evidence of Insurance [NB I'm assuming we're talking about a "Retirement" extension here, have no knowledge/experience of Non-Imm Marriage or Dependents extensions). -
This video popped up on my YT feed today... ... & I was reminded of this thread. The 1st 6 (of 9) countries are in Latin America & I was shocked at how cheaply/easily the guy says it is to retire in any of them (Certainly didn't match my memory of the discussions we had in this thread) and possibly more importantly how cheaply/easily it is to get PR in them. @Jingthingare you still keeping up to date with the retirement requirements in the LatAm countries? Do the numbers in this video look right to you?

Interesting because as a Brit it makes no sense to me that the President of the USA is elected at the start of November but doesn't take Office until some 3.5 months later. [In the UK "Power" is handed over the next day]. Back on Topic, the delay between inheriting the crown & being coronated is a mourning period to show respect for the late queen. If you were to check the passing of another long serving monarch & compare it to when his son was coronated I think you'll find it was approx. 2.5 years.

Whenever I want to get from A-2-B I always check on Rome2Rio... E.g. Pattaya to Rayong by Bus comes back with Nakhonchai Air (5 times per day) & Yellow Bus (once per day)... https://www.rome2rio.com/map/Pattaya/Rayong#r/Bus/s/0 I can see somebody has already posted the contact details for the NCA contact center, if those don't work you could try... 0-2939-4999 [email protected] Or you can use Facebook Chat https://www.facebook.com/nakhonchaiair.official/

And where exactly do you think the Thais should be deported to? Their own country? Of course they won’t be deported, by International law you cannot deport anybody from a country they have citizenship rights in unless they have citizenship rights elsewhere & even then it’s hard to do. I do agree that if you’re going to make 2 minor motoring offences = deportation/blacklisting then the penalty for Thais doing the same should be increased severely but talk of deporting them is asinine.

I would have thought that in the case of a serious accident like this, they would do Blood toxicology tests if for no other reason than it could be fatal to give him medication if he was intoxicated or impaired due to having other drugs in his system (NB I am not saying this is the case here). One time in Bangkok after a few beers I tripped cutting my head open & had to go to hospital for a scan/stiches, they took blood samples but I can't say for sure what they did with them. Total cost was only 15K so I just paid it & didn't bother with the Insurance company as I knew that if they had tested for alcohol I would have been over the limit. I think most of us have a few drinks on holiday & would probably fail the insurance bar for the amount of alcohol we have in us at night, this is a very unfortunate reminder of what could happen if you did find yourself in that situation (Again, I am not saying that is the case here).

If you read the linked article, it seems they have Travel Insurance "Eleven days after the incident, Shauna said they were still in an 'exhaustive and tiring fight' with the insurance company."

Thanks, I was used to paying 112b for them for a long time but could have sworn I'd seen them at 220b in Tops Central Festival a couple of days before - Most probably me reading the prices wrong. Last time Friendship had the buy-1-get-1-free offer it was something like 195 for 2x454 bricks which was an absolute bargain.

Thanks, funny enough mine is a Barclays pension (I believe yours is HSBC) & my GF is 20.5 years my junior so I'm guessing it will be the same & she will also lose 10% of the money. BUT even then it is enough for her to live a comfortable life so, as you say, probably the best provision we can make them. -
Bought a couple of 500g packs of Mainland Vintage Cheddar at (iirc) 275b per pack from Friendship yesterday, occasionally they'll have in on offer at around 210b which is roughly what you pay for a 250g pack elsewhere. Also bought a couple of 450g packs of Anchor Butter for (iirc) 255b per pack, occasionally they have this on a Buy-1-Get-1-Free offer which is an absolute bargain given the 225g packs normally sell for around 220b. ... And that's all I bought in there. NB. Friendship is quite good & I normally buy lots of other stuff in there but I needed to go to Terminal 21 & the Bangkok Bank on North Pattaya Road so I just got the bare essentials ????

Thanks, I only nominated her 2 days back (I only think of my pension when they remind me a week or 2 after my birthday) so hopefully will get some form of acknowledgment in the next few days. As mentioned I’m 3 years (- 2 weeks) away from being able to claim my pension but will make sure this is set in stone when it comes to sorting out the final details. As an aside I’m on a DB (Final Salary) Pension but am planning to take the 25% tax free lump sum & from what I can make of this year’s pension quotes it seems this wouldn’t affect any pension she gets at all as she seems to get 50% of my max pension whether I take the tax free amount or not. -

Which I’m assuming is a UK thing & not something Thailand has as my understanding is Thailand doesn’t recognise Civil Partners as a legal status. Will put it on the list of things I need to find out from my Pension company in 3 years when they start paying it me (There are no restrictions on who I can nominate to receive a lump sum should I die before I start drawing the pension so I’ve put her name down for that & hid all the knives!) -

I've just nominated my GF to receive any lump sum / ongoing payments, how confident are you that they will honor this only the language used says "Spouse or Civil Partner" obviously I consider her to be my "Civil Partner" but I believe that's not a recognised legal standing in Thailand. I need to update my Will to change what happens to my house anyway... so was thinking of adding my pension in there as an asset to strengthen any case she has in claiming it. -
The MAF site states ... Visa Requirement Not required (for stay not exceeding 30 days for each entry and a cumulative duration of stay not exceeding 90 days within any six months). Which reads to me that you are allowed a maximum of 90 days "Visa less" entry in any one 6 month period, so any more days would require a visa... But that's clearly not been updated to reflect the 45 day entries & your mum has already extended so has stayed well over the 30 days for each entry so I guess she will get 45 days via a Border Bounce & be fine. You don't need to stay overnight in Laos & although I did see a lot of Laos guys being sent back & told to come back later (they literally got off the bus & tried to immediately re-enter Thailand), I highly doubt that a Singaporean Passport holder would be turned away in the same way, but a 1 hour coffee in the market should be enough. We flew into Udon Thani (where we were staying for a few days) & took a taxi (900b) to Nong Khai but there is a minibus from the airport (200b) & I believe an International Buss (100b) from the Bus Station (This was no use to me as I need a visa to enter Laos & didn't apply for one beforehand, your mum should be fine as she has an Asean passport so doesn't need a visa to enter Laos).

Did you mean 14 weeks (98 days)? or did you mean 14 days? I'm assuming the latter (14 days) as MAF advises Singaporeans need to have a Visa if they want to spend more than 90 days in any 6 month period in Thailand https://www.mfa.gov.sg/Overseas-Mission/Bangkok/Consular-Services/Thai-Visa-Application-for-Singapore-Citizens# ... And she will have used up 75 days of the 90 with the original Visa Exempt entry + extension. If this is the case then a Border bounce will only get her the 14 days after which she will either need to spend 3 months outside of Thailand or go somewhere to get a Visa (The Thai Embassy on Orchard Road being an obvious choice, Laos or Vietnam also options) If she does decide to get the extra 14 days then she will have to leave the country so (assuming Singaporeans still have the special immigration lanes at BKK) I would recommend she takes a short holiday back home to Singapore & then re-enters (Even if she gets a 45 day visa exempt when coming back she would technically be on overstay after 14 days, whether she would be caught or it would cause a problem later on is another matter). If she doesn't want to go to Singapore then I'd recommend flying to Udon Thani & cross over into Laos at Nong Khai (Very easy to do & when we did the trip, 9th-12 Feb, it was quite quiet both ways), she won't need to pay the $40 visa on arrival cost, but the (Thai) GF did have to pay 20Baht to be stamped in & out of Laos (We were there for a holiday so she couldn't use the temporary border pass) so she may have to pay that.

My condo block has facial recognition at the front door so if they don't have a proper lease registered with the management office, they're not getting in.

In my experience (I’ll admit I haven’t bought UK based travel insurance in > 15 years) it very clearly states that you should check the UK Gov FCO site (https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice) for travel advice before travelling & the “Safety & Security” section I quoted on page 1 should be the 1st section that people check… No small print involved in that at all. However, 1 thing worth highlighting that could well be buried in the small print is your Travel insurance will not cover you for anything > 125cc irrespective of what licenses you hold so if you were to rent something like a Yamaha Aerox (155cc) you need separate motorbike insurance even if you’re licensed to ride big bikes at home.
