Why not, read my post above yours.

Provided he maintained a balance of 800K for 3 months after his last extension, then maintained a balance of 400K since, and can prove a balance of 800K for 2 months prior to the date of application he is in compliance.

His new extension will be dated from the expiry date of his previous extension, so he gains nothing by applying late, provided he pays the overstay fine.

No. To be "in compliance", you need to apply on or before your expiration date. If you abuse the fact that they are usually willing to still grant the extension with a short overstay in order to gain wiggle room for money seasoning, you really are at their mercy, which is what I pointed out.

The order states what the order states to cater for the case that an applicant applies EARLY. There's no explicit provision for the overstay scenario.

  2. What they don't seem to get is that Bitcoin's rise and high level of volatility have made it pretty much unsuitable as a mode of payment, at least for small day to day purchases.  In that sense, it has become a victim of its own success.

Some years ago, it used to be fun to walk around with a bitcoin wallet on one's phone loaded with the equivalent of a few thousand baht and to pay for a few beers on occasion, at a bar that happened to accept bitcoin payments - be it in Bangkok or in HCMC.

I could probably buy a Ferrari now with all the tiny little bitcoin amounts I spent on beer back then, but even leaving this aside, the mere cost of a transaction nowadays is just too high.

  3. I solve the "problem" by withdrawing amounts that provide me with a maximum of small notes from ATMs, whatever amount I want in 1000s plus 900. So I always carry around a good mix of banknotes.

To preempt any attempts to shortchange me as mentioned by other posters, I then use small notes for small purchases and 1000 baht notes only for >500 baht ones. Never a problem.

That being said, at my local 7/11s specifically, they always say out loud the amount of cash you handed over, and the amount of change they're about to give.

Because, at least for me, it would change my course of action. Knowing that I would be in risk of getting a one year ban if just leaving on Tuesday, I would go to Immigration on Monday and see if I could pay the overstay and get seven days to leave.

That doesn't work. You can only pay your overstay at a local immigration office if you apply for an extension there. If you don't, they simply have no way of knowing when your overstay will end, thus they cannot settle the case.
