You have my sympathy as I have had the same problem - those glazed tiles that are dangerous and slippery, especially when wet. I can vividly recall a bad fall after doing a "Torvill and Dean" on newly laid tiles on Nong Khai's Mekong Promenade whilst wearing UK walking shoes! If you are living in the Chiang Mai area, RIMPING Supermarkets in and around the city stock selections of frozen packs of sausages produced locally by ex-pat entre-preneurs, also imported from similar businesses in Pattaya. Not only sausages, but pies, pasties, scotch eggs, black pudding and sausage rolls etc.

Doesn't MAKRO sell potatoes? Pre-covid, when I lived in Thailand, I used to buy all my potatoes from them. Baby potatoes in net bags and "help yourself" from trays/baskets.

Yes indeed. It is many years since I visited Mae Hong Son and I agree with your observations. I found a nice hotel overlooking a small lake but otherwise very quiet. I had to walk some considerable distance away from town to find a bar, part of a hotel, which I believed closed at 11pm. However, the scenery of the surrounding hills and countryside is fantastic. These days, do not venture near the Thai - Burma border due to hostilities by the Burmese military.

Very much so. I lived near Phayao and enjoyed doing so. Nothing wrong with Phayao and not a "dump" as described (IMO).

Chiang Mai Chiang Rai Phayao Lampang Khon Kaen and any other cities away from the beach and bar culture of ex-pats down south. I now live in Siem Reap.

Likewise for me, but that was some years ago. Where I lived in Khon Kaen Province, the nearest airport at that time, which had regular daily flights across country to Chiang Mai, was Udon Thani. If I remember correctly, there were 4 daily return flights between UTH and CNX. The service was operated by Siam General Aviation (SGA) for Nok Air Mini using SAAB 340 aircraft. These were extremely comfortable with plenty of body and leg space. A snack meal was also served - not just a small container of water and a cake! The flights were much reduced when Nok Air introduced one daily flight with a Boeing 737. By then Air Asia had a daily flight from Khon Kaen to CNX and this was much more convenient for me. Thanks, similar for me. I permanently left the UK 23 years ago, living first in Thailand for 20 years and now in Cambodia for 3 years. I am sure I would be lost in the UK these days. My only contact is with family who are still alive and my 3 pension companies to ensure the flow of cash into my bank account.

Why not? With respect, Thailand wants tourism and investment from China, like other Asian countries. Srettha is not going to back down due to the moans of a few foreign ex-pats (like here on AN). Do not get me wrong, I also dislike the Chinese and here in Siem Reap I do not involve myself with them or their businesses, an amicable situation. I support the Khmer people. What the Royal Cambodian Government decides is no concern of mine.

With respect, not strictly true. I am a type 2 diabetic and when I lived in the UK, my doctor advised me to eat wholemeal bread. For reference:- "Contrary to popular belief, people with type 2 diabetes can, in fact, eat bread — the right kinds, in moderation. Yes indeed, and me being a diabetic, it would not be suitable even though wholemeal bread is part of my diabetic diet. Fortunately here in Siem Reap, my local MAKRO has an "onsite" bakery and it's wholewheat bread is non-sweetened to compete with many local private bakeries (a legacy from French colonial days). Sadly, the "onsite" bakery is producing far less local products which are being replaced by pre-packaged ones imported from Thailand. For example, that awful doughy Farmhouse bread is now appearing on our shelves at a higher price, replacing local bread. Is there a demise in MAKRO's "onsite" baking in Thailand?
