  1. Thanks for being as negative as possible, how kind of you. Interesting that you don't know my family but you know what they will do. I guess you are clairvoyant. Your actually wrong on all points. My Thai son and his Thai wife both have good education and they are very focused on good education for their kids and every Baht spent brings value to that cause. No they won't just go ahead and do a traditional ation. In fact some time ago some outer family members mentioned to my son they wanted him to organize an expensive cremation and party when I go to make the whole family look rich/important. With me present (I speak plenty of Thai) he told them that wouldn't be happening and why (every Baht to be saved for education of my grandchildren). They all backed off. My son is no pushover, he (and his wife) will respect our discussions, I have no doubt about that.
  2. Not really, Your a brave man, I got lost after your first 10 words. Just me, but I can now spell computer and windows.
  3. I would spend only a tiny amount of the $10,000 to preserve as much as possible into the education fund I've created, years ago, for my 3 Thai grandchildren. No new cars, no new clothes, no new anything. Not needed. And my Thai sons knows that my cemation must be on a strict small budget. Why? To preserve as much as possible into the education fund I've created, years ago, for my 3 Thai grandchildren.
  4. Plus there seems to be an assumption that the spouses of the APEC attendees would want to see this and will be impressed. Questions: - Does 'spouses' include male spouses of female APEC attendees? - Will they all have an individual limousine, uniformed chauffeur and attendants? And how many will be able to speak English or the native language of the spouse they are transporting / escorting? - Will there be a tour guide at the museum and how long will the lecture be about each item on display? Perhaps a minimum of 1 hr per item might impress (or totally bore) the spouses. - Will attendance at the museum be compulsory? Or perhaps it's assumed they will all automatically follow the schedule like good little official visitors. Or perhaps that means they will all do as they are told/as organized.
  5. He's had a very long time to shows good strong leadership skills, with the capability to control renegade / corrupt Thai politicians but ... . A little late now. On a one to one social basis he's a very pleasant man with good communication skills and he speaks perfect English. Sure he's got very good credentials in finance and economics (he won 2 international awards), but when he was with the dems he/they had no impact. He's had several bouts of recurring illness. He's known as not being corrupt. Is he known as adding strong valuable policies which provide a better quality of life to the poorer country folks? Doubt if they've ever heard his name.
  6. LG big cpacity machine. We have same, now 11 years old, still works perfectly, never had any problem.
  7. Ahh, you're so sweet, you qualify for the magic version of customer experience.
  8. To the OP. Much information and I'm guessing (my guess only) this levaes you without a specific/factual answer. Call the insurance company or go to their office (major office), ask them for specific clear answers and ask for an e.mail confirming whatever answers they give you.
  9. ***** This case is in Thailand ***** .
  10. A few CEOs of very major industries might earn such amounts but very very few. I've worked with 2. I won't reveal their names / companies but here's some hints: - Perhaps group head of national oil, gas and more..... - Perhaps group head national cement and building materials and allied industries, massive operations/company names in Thailand and very very big and highly successful branches abroad..... And of course enormous responsibilities and enormous challenges.....
  11. From above: "How could a UK PM be so obviously illogicall, especially in her first speech?" I amaned this sentence to add in the bracket: How could a UK PM be so obviously illogicall, (this is not even common sense), especially in her first speech?
  12. UK friend (well experienced in the business in the UK) opened a restaurant in Pattaya. What he hadn't anticipated was the high level of skimming of receipts, theft of food/raw materials and theft of finished meals not ordered but prepared and put aside (hidden) for staff to take home, not paid for. Also theft of furniture and equipment. Tally up the bills presented to customer compared to cash in hand every shift/day. Always up to 50% short. He tried to implement a rule that he alone checked bills before bill goes to customer, he alone takes the money, money locked in a drawer, he alone has keys. Staff rebelled with '...you not nice you don't trust your staff, don't want to work in place like this, no fun'. He discovered that he couldn't take a day off/go home early, if he did theft increased substantially. Also discovered that asking questions was a waste of time, no answers whatever.
  13. Perhaps before you start the business you should do some research as to what legal/local regulations responsibilities / minefields are involved which you need to get right before you open.
  14. Seems to me it's more than that. From the very first time I saw/heard her I was somewhat shocked about her discussion points, attitudes and arrogance. Then she won the PM vote, first up / day one she announced a major tax cut policy which is not logical, and toxic to folks on minimum income struggling to survive and feed their kids/keep the lights on. A nasty tax policy which would create big reductions in tax receipts, but she made zero mention of how the reduction in tax receipts would be replaced by tax receipts from other policies. Not mentioned at all, by a PM, first speech. How could a UK PM be so obviously illogicall, especially in her first speech? Not surprised she only lasted a very short time, now in the history books as the UK PM with the shortest ever tenure in history.
  15. There are options; the disposable blue shavers (2 in a pack) from 7/11 (have their own brand name, they don't use the Gillette name), handle a little shorter than Gillette/BIC etc., but that's not a problem. The design is not attempting to copy Gillette. Work out at 20Baht for 1 razor, excellent shave, about 10 shaves per shaver. Been using them for about 5 years. Most but not all 7/11 stores have them. Worth a try. For real Gillette, if you visit Malaysia, Singapore, China and even Australia you'll find real Gillette shavers (all models) are 40 to 50% cheaper than in Thailand
  16. I suggest this is a mixed picture. My Thai son tlks about this from time to time. Thankfully he and his good Thai wife have their 3 kids at home with them and he's devoted to their upbringing, education, family life etc., etc. He's told me before there's plenty of his male friends (with kids) who have been basically forced by their wives to go to work in factories on the eastern seaboard and in Ayuthaya, and leave their kids for granparents to look after / bring up. Why? Wive has heard about the fun of being in a factory team, the social life etc. Unfortunately the number of times they come home to see their kids seems to dwindle with many coming home only once a year.
  17. Including check direct with insurance company re: - Driving with InterDriving permit rather than Thai license. - Driving whilst here on the Visa that your holding. And ask for an e.mail showing the answers to your questions.
  18. Well said, clearly there is nobody ultimately in charge, keeping the RTP within some respectable behavioral boundaries and conrols and within the law.
  19. 'Transfer out of the area is sufficient.' Beats me how senior officers see this as logical / appropriate.
  20. Sure, and in that time many interesting lessons have been learned, world wide, how to successfully design roads that stand up in such circumstances. Time stands still!
  21. Most times the 'throwing' isn't that bad. In an event puts lot of packing around it, jam the packing around it. I did it once, emergency situation to get from Tokyo to my office in Singapore with my desktop PC. Packed it in a hard shell s'case, a lot of packing. Arrived undamaged and no questions asked, on Cathay Pacific.
  22. Reminds me of an offshore international bank (one office/branch in Thailand) who announced there would be a charge to enter the bank premises. For several months there was an employee at the door collecting the 40Baht entrance fee from every person who entered, customers and not customers. The Bank of Thailand found out and ordered the bank to stop it immediately and they also imposed a heavy fine on the bank. Same bank is well known world wide for practices bordering on unethical.
