Crime Shocking Underage Sex Ring Busted: Teen Arrested in Bangkok
scorecard replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
Plenty on Thai social Media. My DIL says the case has had big following on sites like Pantip. Farang friends Thai wife asked the question 'were the 2 x 14 year old boy 'scorts' already well trained / practiced in what they needed to do to fulfill the arrangement?' -
I can confirm the message just above. I took a farang friend to the Labour office ( Several years back I took a farang friend to the Thai Labour HO, ground floor, at Din Daeng. We were quickly greeted well in English. Two Labour officers listened carefully and asked questions to ensure they had a complete /clear understanding of the case. The case also related to resignation, the employer claimed that by Thai law nobody can resign without the written approval of the company CEO / owner. Both Labour officers confirmed, very clearly that this is not correct and is not Thai law. They mentioned 'employers can and will write many things into employment contracts but that doesn't mean it's binding; all clauses must totally follow Thai law. And this also means following internationally accepted human rights. The Labour officers sked us to go to a coffee shop and have a snack and come back in one hour and they would have a letter (in Thai and in English) to be presented to the employer. Before we moved away they checked they had 100% details of the company name, address etc., etc. We went back and the 2 officers quickly greeted us. They gave us the letter and it stated clearly the the company statements / actions were illegal. Also stated what would be legal. Also mentioned that if needed the Labour ministry would support legal action against the employer. Farang concerned (along with a Thai lawyer who he had contacted 1 week earlier but had done nothing) presented a copy of the letter, unfolded, no envelope to the secretary of the CEO and asked her to read it immediately and immediately give it to the CEO. (The Thai CEO, his secretary and the HR manager all spoke advanced English and Thai They also informed the secretary they would go immediately to the office of the HR manager and give him a copy of the letter. Within 15 minutes the CEO called the cell phone of the employee, asked if he was nearby which was confirmed and asked the employee to please come to his office as soon as convenient. Employee and his lawyer went immediately to the CEOs office. CEO mentioned immediately, I respect that you wish to resign and can I please have private meeting now to ask you for details of why you wish to resign but I confirm the reason does not change the fact that you have every right to resign, as long as you follow the 30 days notice clause. Meeting happened. Within another 5 minutes the secretary had given the CEO copies of a number of other instances where the HR manager had manufactured 'laws' which were not valid. In front of all present the CEO dismissed the HR manager. CEO told the secretary 'get the HR manager of xxx company (a sister company owned by the same CEO)here quickly. That happened and the employee involved was quickly given a letter saying 'your resignation is acknowledged and your last working day will be xx/xx/xxxx.

What exactly is a Thai pink ID card?
scorecard replied to Equatorial's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
About 4 years back I presented a photocopy of an AirAsia domestic flight booking and my pink card at AirAsia check-in in Chiang Mai. Unpleasant check-in girl threw a fit and said 'foreigners cannot have cards like this and said she was calling the police. She didn't know her supervisor was standing behind her. Supv'r grabbed the card and said quickly "why would you call the police, this card is valid and legal and AA accepts it as ID". Check-in girl was shocked, but continued and asked me "did you steal this card?" Supervisor pushed her aside with some abuse and looked at me and said "I apologize, give me ten seconds and I'll give you your boarding pass. I got the boarding pass and the pink card and started to walk away. As I did the supv'r was giving the check-in girl a serious blast and a warning. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I got the Thai 13 digit ID number when I received Thai PR, some 28 years ago. This was at the Pattaya Amphur office when I received my PR book. About 8 years ago I went to the big Chiang Mai Amphur office, I presented my PR book, Tabien Baan book (*dark blue cover), RED police reg. book and passport. (*PR holders are entered in the standard dark blue Tabien Baan (TB) book, not a yellow TB book.) Very pleasant your man looked at my docs and said "Yes we can issue you the pink card, but at this office we issue many standard Thai ID cards every day then 10 or 20 minutes before closing time we change the cards in the card issuing machine to pink cards. So would be convenient for you to please come back later this afternoon? I agreed, went back, young officer gave me a big smile and a big wai and took me quickly to the photo area. Fifteen 5 minutes later I walked out with my pink card and with apologies for having to come back later in the day. All very pleasant. -

"...I usually keep B500 on mine. ..." What card are you talking about? -
It wouldn't matter because it would be stating something which is totally illegal. In all situations employees have every right, at law, to finish work on what ever date they wish, but with appropriate notice in advance unless there's an issue of violence or verbal / emotional abuse. An employer trying to force an employee to stay in a job would be a violation of that employees persons human rights, their absolute personal right to come and go as they wish.

So where did you meet your Thai girlfriend or wife?

Not a sad comment. Ever heard of free speech? The poster can say whatever he/she wants. -
And keep in mind (same as the labour office will do) that nobody can prevent you from free movement of your choice. You are a human being, not a slave and therefore you are totally entitled to decide your own movements. This is well established in by international laws which Thailand is a signatory to. A contract of employment which says you can't 'move' for 2 years would not be legal. But a contract which sys you most give 30 days notice would be a legal contract. As already stated, go quickly to a labour office, their staff are experts on the laws involved, always good listeners, always good English available, always very balanced and same treatment / advice for Thai and foreign employees.

Depends where. In many areas of Bangkok there's an option: - Walk up numerous steep stairs then down the other side. Quite some task for older folks. - Use a zebra crossing - but with some danger. But it depends on other factors. This in Ram Rod, near the hotel I use when lecturing in Bkk there's a zebra crossing and there's many footpath food vendors who are pleasant but don't upset them They seem to take turns when they see older folks want to cross but no vehicles will stop. One, sometimes two food vendors step out onto the crossing seriously flagging cars to stop, then they walk across holding the hand of the elderly person. If a car doesn't attempt to stop one food vendor kicks the car as it passes. What's also taken foot is the food vendors on the other side of RAM road are doing the same thing. Plus the wife of an employee of a major retailer nearby has set up a distribution point for free walking frames. And the wealthy owner of my hotel helps by giving one food vendor some cash to pay the very close by motor cycle boys to take the older folks home for free after shopping. There a manned police box right at the zebra crossing, the cops on duty totally ignore the whole scenario, never offer any help to stop vehicles at the zebra crossing. -

So what do you suggest, stay home 24/7 and don't go to work, don't shop for food ? What other options do Thai pedestrians have? -
Maybe the parent wanted to convert the Sizzler chain to cash to engage in another business activity where they strongly anticipate better returns for the capital invested.

1. Pricing is controlled / managed / decided in their national HQ within the CP group - 7/11 enterprise. They use software / policies which are supplied by the 7/11 International HQ in Japan. 2. 7/11 use sophisticated software (developed in Japan) using stock management / supply chain / sales data to decide what stock should be in each store, and yes the stock can be a little different in shops close together.

That's not what I said or alluded to. "Might as well flip a coin because it really doesn't matter either way, right?" I didn't suggest that and I never would suggest that. Like any human being I would prefer to live in a country which has a low accident / injury / death toll/ from traffic accidents. duced too. -
