An air con engineer ( who wasn't trying to sell me one) told me years ago that oversizing the required unit was a bit of a false economy. The reason being that dehumidifying the air in the room is just as important as dropping the temperature. A much larger than required unit will switch off once the required temperature is achieved and as such does not get the chance to reduce the humidity as much as it should, the end result being that a lower temperature is required in order to feel "comfortable" This was a good few years ago before the "inverter" type units were available and I'm not sure if it applies with the newer inverter models , But when I emerge from the bedroom into the non airconditioned living room, it's the humidity that I notice before the heat, it feels like walking through soup

Probably the "wokest" post I have ever read certainly due some sort of an award, One might also speculate that he was just an opportunist thief and a pretty stupid one at that The Thai government can hardly provide for its own people, why on earth should they be expected to support migrants from any country? Especially ones that turn to crime to fund their "better life" or "social climbing"
-
Well it seems even the UK government can't complain about the illegals coming to Britain, . It makes me sick to hear all these sanctimonious types whingeing on behalf of the immigration authorities here. Virtue signalling at best , and spitefulness at worst, nothing else.

So You have now changed tack again from 600cc sports bikes with a top speed of 130mph to 1970's 50cc mopeds with a power output of around 5 bhp and with a top speed of 40mph or in the case of the honda SS50 35 mph for which drum brakes were perfectly adequate, Jesus rim brakes as fitted to a push bike would have sufficed I must be a little older than you I also had an FS!E as did most of my friends, all of them fitted with drums front and rear. There was one guy who had an SS50 but he was invariably so far behind everybody else that his braking "performance" was never witnessed by the rest of us ! lol Nobody ever had any problems or accidents due to poor brake performance. lol in those days we were more concerned in how "quickly" we could thrash our way around the block, often with one brake completely inoperative! you are the first person I have ever heard using the term "out braking" in relation to 50cc mopeds The disc brakes fitted to the later FS1E-Dx were nothing more than a cosmetic measure designed to appeal to 16 year old boy "racers" as indeed was the appearance of two bolt on brackets designed to mimic a duplex cradle frame. In fact in those days the efficiency of disc brakes was more than a little concerning in wet weather as evidenced by a warning sticker, factory applied to the front forks of the suzuki GT750 I owned in 1979 https://www.isaydingdong.co.uk/ourshop/prod_6155002-Suzuki-GT750-550-380-250-etc-Series-Fork-Leg-Wet-Disc-Brake-Warning-Stickers-35mm-Pair.html It wasn't until several years later when an improvement in brake pad material and the advent of drilled or slotted discs cured this problem Obviously disc brakes are more efficient, ( I have not suggested otherwise) and less susceptible to fade when working hard , But there is the question of proportion and context. The ability to "outbrake" others into the corners in a racing situation is perhaps the main difference between winning and losing, but we are now talking about skilled professionals, extreme braking on motorcycles is not without extreme danger and is a skill in itself and difficult to master , locking the front wheel up is easily done without ABS , a recipe for disaster, and recovering from that situation is well beyond the capabilities of the average tourist on a rental Honda Wave Your obsession with disc brakes is similar to my mrs' faith in the safety value of Buddhist amulets. and there's no convincing her either ! Its not for me to tell you what to ride , it is of course your decision, however I hope your obsession does not stop you looking a little deeper at what you choose to rent, tyres are also important , ever had a loose chain jump the sprocket ? and please don't forget the rear light ! It really isn't all just about disc brakes

In previous post you admitted that you ride small capacity rental bikes but now you change to 600cc sports bikes but ok I'll answer your question. Would I buy a large engined sports bike with a drum brake on the front,? well actually yes I did a couple of years ago It was a 1957 Norton dominator 99 which I restored. Would I buy a modern sports bike with a drum on the front, well no and the reason being that it would be very difficult to actually source one as far I am aware there are none currently in production. My question for you is , have you ever ridden a classic sports bike with a large twin leading shoe front brake ? If yes, what was it like ? If no, then no further comment is required, Now ask your self, how come Geoff Duke managed to Lap the TT course in 1955 at 99.97 mph and Bob Mcintyre managed to achieve a lap speed of 100mph 2 years later both, on bikes fitted with drum brakes, front and rear, whilst you are reluctant to consider a trip to the 7=11 or the beach on a similarly equipped Honda wave And as for riding 3 up, not only is it "not the safest" as you say, but it is also Illegal and guaranteed to void your insurance which is what this thread was all about Are you aware that statistically you are more likely to be involved in an accident within 5 minutes of home and the best brakes in the world won't help you if you get "tail ended" or "t boned" But what would I know eh ?
-
It certainly takes a special kind of person to drag Brexit and Donald Trump in to a discussion about insurance. The same sort of person who mentions racism and arrogance whilst attempting to insult and stereotype an entire nation of people. It is no surprise at all that in a later post you mention "Right wing non scientific thought" although I was surprised that you appear have omitted the word "extreme" before the words "rightwing" Presumably you consider left wing ideology to be totally science based ? The vile comments you are spewing out are not unexpected from the likes of you. I have been suspended several time in the past for far less offensive remarks than the ones you have made in this thread and you deserve the same. What is your problem ? did one of our world famous British swordsmen roger your wife ? or deflower and Impregnate your daughter? or maybe you recently received a well deserved good hiding from one of our reckless arrogant racist drunks ? I certainly hope so. Or have you , quite rightly, been denied entry to our green and pleasant land. If that's the case you must be a real wrong'un, as incase you haven't noticed, they let nearly anybody into Great Britain these days. I would suggest that you will be a lot safer if you keep your nasty arrogant bigoted racist views to yourself

For English speaking countries ,what is the point of an IDP in Thailand anyway? It doesn't translate ones licence into Thai, and Spanish , Chinese, and Arabic are not widely spoken in Thailand. There is no test involved to obtain one. simply nip down to the post office and pay £5 and you've got one! Anyway It actually counts for nothing unless accompanied by ones original driving licence too. The original purpose for an IDP in Thailand was to provide an english translation of licences issued in non english speaking countries, and as another member has mentioned , until recently, was not a requirement if ones original Licence was in english The fact is, that obtaining any 1st world driving licence requires a far higher demonstration of driving skills than anything required to obtain a Thai licence, which for foreigners already holding a licence from their home countries, can be obtained simply by passing a few simple tests , ie colour blindness, reaction time , and general eyesight, followed by watching a video, absolutely no driving required . For an insurance company to refuse a claim based on not having an IDP is a cop out in my opinion. although to refuse a claim due to one not having a car or motorcycle licence issued in their own country is fair enough

It is you who is making things up many motorcycles are equipped with drum brakes both front and rear, what on earth lead you to think otherwise? . Check the link if you don't believe me https://www.greatbiker.com/honda-wave-alpha-2023-3/ You are correct about ABS though , very helpful for inexperienced riders
-
Nothing wrong with my knowledge of motorcycle brakes, and nothing wrong with drum brakes on motorcycles. Do you honestly think that companies like Honda etc would equip their products with drum brakes if they were, as you incorrectly say "use less" Utter rubbish , The first motorcycle to lap the Isle of man TT circuit at 100mph was fitted with drum brakes, Classic racing motorcycles still use drum brakes do you think that would be allowed if they were "useless" Further more an inexperienced rider grabbing a big handful of front brake on a motorcycle equipped with disc brakes is likely to lock up the front wheel and would be kissing the tarmac before they knew what happened, especially when cornering or in wet conditions, unless they had the additional feature of ABS Under extreme conditions drum brakes may exhibit a tendency to "fade" a little but if you are the sort of rider who pushes his honda wave that hard, which I genuinely doubt, you really need to slow down Mr Agostini

Well this quote from the op in another thread sound a bit more optimistic It concerned a few "unlicensed " traders getting their collars felt at a local market "The authorities hope that this crackdown will deter others from engaging in illegal activities and promote the safe and responsible use of marijuana in compliance with the regulations." Safe and responsible use of marijuana" , treating adults like adults

Not many pot heads could be arsed responding to opinion polls, Lets just hope they can find the motivation to vote! I think you were correct though when in your previous post that a large percentage have no interest in cannabis however I'm not talking about just "business" interest. I reckon that ( in round numbers) about let's say 90% maybe more ? of people don't indulge but really couldn't care less about those that do , so we don't hear a sound out of these people, they are by nature a silent majority and have no feelings either for or against legalisation Then let's say that there are 9% maybe less ? of people who do smoke, well we won't be hearing much noise from them either as they've got nothing to complain about a silent minority, for want of a better descriptive. That leaves just 1% ( obviously a lot less in reality but i couldn't be bothered with fractions) of people who don't smoke and for whatever reason are vehemently opposed to it and think it should be banned, The last group have a lot to say for themselves, with their constant "reefer madness" hysteria . A very vocal minority, who feel so strongly about this that they will use any opportunity be it TV , News papers, public demonstrations, social media etc etc. to promote their cause , and that's fine, its kind of a free country and they are entitled to express their concerns As I said 1% is a vast over estimate , there really isn't many of them , there wasn't that many vocal opponents when it first got deregulated and there seems to be a lot less now, and you can forget Chuwit, that guy doesn't have an altruistic bone in his body, his new found "aversion" to cannabis is nothing to do with any societal concerns, its purely political, he just thinks he's found a way to Shaft Anutin The situation on this forum seems to mirror this (although the 9 % of users are uncharacteristically vocal ) many of the aggressive reefer madness types have gone very quiet, have they just lost interest or is it because after the best part of a year non of their panic mongering predictions have materialised.? Either way it seem just wrong that the less than 1% should have any say in what the more than 99% are allowed to do

I dare say a large proportion of the so called "exotic" ganja sold in retail outlets at vastly inflated prices is produced by small growers but I guarantee not very much if any is grown in peoples gardens for several reasons :- the seasonal nature of the flowering cycle , the weather, and the presence of insects and other pests, The vast majority of cannabis smoked is not sold in these retail outlets. and actually is grown outdoors, but in large scale farming operations. It is sold by the Kilo or even by the tonne, a bit beyond the scope of the average gardner in scale alone, not to mention the practicalities of selling it You are vastly over simplifying things if you think that all one needs to do is throw a few seeds into a bit of soil, to be rewarded with some quality product that somebody is going to hand over their hard earned cash for Why not have a go and let us all know how you get on, regarding the quantity produced, and how much you manage to sell. I'm guessing that you don't smoke it yourself but if you need somebody to test it for you, well its an onerous task but i'd be prepared to take it on. I also believe, that regrettably the current situation will change, and not for the better, but it doesn't really bother me that much. Like most people on this forum who are in favour of it , I never really let its illegality interfere with my enjoyment of it. There's 1000s of people who have been smoking it discreetly since time immemorial, its illegality has never really been an issue for them , and they won't be stopping due to any change in the law, A reversal in the law will just drive it back underground again, much to the delight of the police and the criminal gangs who ran the operations before I'm not 100% sure how things stand at present but it used to be illegal here to brew alcohol here and I think it still is I 'm pretty certain that distilling liquor is illegal too. That probably explains why you have not noticed your neighbours doing it, also its not something that people would attempt to do in their gardens for similar reasons as outlined above.
-
Well I have heard such stories, although admittedly not first hand . I doubt that anyone who was unfortunate to have been in that situation would be hanging around here (even if it was possible for them to do so) long enough to specifically inform you. But obviously if you haven't been informed personally then it must surely never have happened. For a 20 year old, a 40 or 50 year old would be around the same age as their parents, most people would not consider their parents at that age to be "elderly" that would be an adjective used to describe their grand parents, You seem to be having trouble writing coherently are you drunk already or just tired
-
You are joking right?, At least I hope you are. There is absolutely nothing difficult whatsoever about brewing alcohol, absolutely anybody can do it !. We even did it in school as a project when I was about 10 years old ! The Thais have been doing it for probably thousands of years, all or should I say both of the necessary ingredients are easily available anywhere, don't you know what they are? Have you really never heard of "Sah Toh" ? Never heard of "Khao Mark" ? My mother in law was distilling her own Lao Khao years ago Are you completely unaware of the thousands or more likely millions of people around the world who brew their own wine or beer as a hobby? You obviously know very little about either alcohol or ganga !
