  1. RIP to the poor fella. You are correct mate, forks down as soon as load or shelving is cleared and always before swinging the fork and driving forward. Slow when exiting buildings, or around blind corners of freight, always sound horn when doing so, always when reversing sound horn, etc, and no one should be riding anything anywhere near a forklift area. If delivery trucks and utilities are entering yes, but as per standard industrial areas behaviour; drive always carefully and slowly.
  2. I've finally arrived at the point of pun overload hahahaha ????
  3. Read the label on that stuff and see what goop it contains OMG!???? If you want sugar in your daily diet eat 3 pieces of fresh fruit per day. Or supplement this number with a freshly squeezed juice. Bottled juice is <deleted>. I used to fast as a younger man, regularly, and still fast now for 12 to 18 hours monthly as part of a meditation and yoga regime. I reduced the size of my meals about 10 years ago too and felt a whole lot better for it. Many Western nations folk eat far too much in portion sizes salt, processed foods, sugar, meat and nowhere near enough fresh vegetables. Our modern diets are way to slimy and smooth and tend to slide through us and make our gut smooth and as such we don't draw the nutrients we need to live as healthy as we can. Even Thai food can be way to carb rich and low on fibre. I always tell any food makers I frequent no MSG low salt and sugar in the food please. Lots of white rice is a perfect way to feed problems, as it converts very readily into sugar in the blood at very high levels i.e. it has a high glycemic index. We mostly eat wild brown rice at home. Our bodies require roughage, trace elements, protein, and carbs to be converted to sugars and this is stored in our blood and muscles. This processed stored energy is to feed our energy hungry brains too. The roughage in fresh food is designed by nature to keep our gut vili healthy and of course our blood 'strong'. If you are thinking some sugar is warranted to support you this is defeating of the purpose of fasting ... traditionally fasting means water only to maintain turgidity of our blood cells and avoid dehydration. If the fast is some sort of 'specific selective fasting' which has become more trendy and common e.g. fruit of one type only, coconut water, water and lemon or lime juice as a specific astringent intake to cleanse the liver. I drink a few fresh squeezed limes with filtered water every morning to 'wake up' my immune system. I would suggest you begin this regime. Its delicious and makes ya feel awesome. As you are over 50 I'd offer what was told to me in Oz by very expert nutritionists and doctors. That advice (backed up by lots of proven credible research) was to reduce my carbohydrate intake and increase my lean protein intake. This is because even if we are very active and sporty, which I am, our bodies do not need as much carb's when get past the 50'ish age. Go to a good hospital, spend a few baht and get your full blood workup. This will give you all the indicators of pretty much everything that is happening for you e.g. endocrine system, liver, kidney, T-cells, platelets etc. Arrange a consult with a dietician at the same visit and take a comprehensive week long list with you showing exactly, including portion sizes (no cheating on the list especially discounting your alcohol intake). We don't know how tall you are (if you're over '6'3" then as a general rule of thumb 115 kilos is a good weight as long as your body mass index is not high in fat, but lean muscle. Just stating your weight doesn't help us much in having some idea of your level of fat or obesity. For example; If you're 5'5" and 115 kgs then you're either bulked like Schwarzenegger or you're way overweight.
  4. You MUST carry your passport with you at all times. It is a requirement of the I.O. by-Laws. Having said that ... It appears as a retired person with a (near new) personally owned car (with the papers of ownership in the car when stopped for any reason), a drivers license, these forms of ID seem to suffice for Police. I can't speak to being stopped by any I.O. officers as in all the years I have lived here or before as a tourist I was never stopped by any I.O. personnel. Many of us carry colour, quality photocopies of ID page and current visa page instead and this has always been satisfactory for Police. I always give them my drivers license too as well as a matter of course. I carry these copies, laminated for local island movement but when I/we go off island I always carry my passport (thats by road and of course absolutely when flying). Having the additional stuff like a Thai drivers License etc might suffice in some places and not in others and if you get stopped and don't have a level of ID the officers ask for you could find yourself sitting in a police station.
  5. I'd resent that remark if I was sober enough ????
  6. Obviously my warped Monty Python sense of humour obviously drowning in aquatic references wasn't caught by one member hahahaha ????????????????
  7. Tragic ... poor little mite ????
  8. OMG ???? What a shower of a policy!! The place is awash with prejudice !! lol ????????
  9. Look in roof cavities, eaves etc. They like to get high to sleep before going put to look for their next meal.
  10. It's like the Benny Hill Show aint' it ... skit after crazy skit lol ????????????
  11. There's hundreds of thousands of us privileged falangs here in LOS. Go and help the orphanages near you.
  12. I was a 'wood butcher' a long time ago (as we are sometimes called in Oz), and I always loved working with timber. The art form to which the Japanese take it to is true mastery. We have a few Japanese timber pieces in my home and they are completely handmade and perfectly crafted. If any A.N. folks get the chance to visit Nihon and seek out traditional woodworking do it! It will enrich, and humble you.
  13. I'm not sure which floor its on but Siam Centre near Sala Deng (you can walk from the BTS straight into the Centre) has a chemist that sells everything including psychotropics over the counter which normally require a prescription in the West. I think it was on the first few floors - not the ground floor. Maybe they can help you with enhancement med's.
  14. Im a cheap trollop so I'd definitely throw myself at all of them ....
  15. You've had lots of feedback about the upper structure so I'll not comment little on tat except the final remark I make.. As an ex-builder I would suggest that 100 mm thick floor slab is not thick enough - that is a ridiculous thickness to carry the load of cars. This is especially relevant considering the lightweight reo-mesh that Thai's tend to use as standard in slabs which is completely inadequate., add to that Thai's have little to no understanding how to install expansion and controlled stress-crack joints. For cars make the slab 150mm thick no less and use 7mm. dia. reinforcing mesh with proper concrete chairs throughout when pouring. Simply going around and pulling the reo-mesh up by hand as the concrete is poured is useless as the mesh will settle down into the bottom of the pour and compromise the structural integrity of the slab. Unless you want to spend years and years of repetitive scouring down and re-painting the frame works use galvanised steel not mild steel thats simply painted.
  16. I agree with Brain. The influx here in the last months has risen exponentially and is plain to see and is NOT normal tourism, seasonal or otherwise. While the Russian population profited from Putin and his vile regime all was hunky-dory but as soon as they had to take on any responsibility or impact for the 20 years of ever intensifying, despotic, racist, anti-semitic ultra-nationalism which they prospered from they run for the hills.
  17. Depends on what you like. If ya like the bush the inland and up country is the ticket. Close proximity to large towns and cities both north and south for hub transport is easy and has varied landscapes both coastal and inland. If you want a degree of sophistication then there's options to have both a quiet life and be able to travel short distances to nightlife, shopping, and good services. If ya love the sea than theres tons of places along the western coast. Phang nga is on the west coast is quiet for the most part compared to Phuket. If you wanna be closer to Khrong Thep then the gulf coastline might suit better.
  18. Simon Templars ride. Who knows who I'm talking about?
  19. The best stuff I've ever used is Elle Bache' (Aussie products) ... superb. I've been using sunscreens since my mum used to put Zinc cream across my nose as a baby. Bache' 'Sports Block' last all day in the surf! They make a range of screens from this super waterproof moisturising Sports number to non lanolin based non-swimming ones, even makeup bases that act as sunscreens too. I buy mine when back in Oz but you can order online.
  20. Its been a while since I visited it but go all the way down Silom Road to Charoen Krung Rd (T-intersection) cross the road, turn left walk a short ways. There was a small, but great fine leather and crocodile product shop. They make superb crocodile phone wallet/covers too. They'll make something really special for you that will last years and years. Have you tried Alfred Dunhill shop in Emporium? Mont Blanc, Hermes?
  21. The road to hell is paved with good intentions
  22. Not too long to develop I guess? I had a few contacts already before moving to live here and making LOS our main base. Playing golfing, tennis, sailing, surfing etc, pretty relaxed and a friendly chap. But as a Scorpio (if this star stuff is real and accurate) then I am a sociable warm person, but also a man who needs alone-time. Being an Aussie I tend to smile and say goodaye to most people ... I have a few close friends (some here, some in Oz and other places) who visit and spend time regularly. Living in paradise tends to see our friends coming and going throughout the year which we enjoy and keeps life stimulating. I have others who are in the outer ring of contact which I would describe as acquaintances e.g, have a beer with after a round, a smoothie or gaffee buran after a gym workout, meet up for a meal and wander around a night market with occasionally. With those folks I don't know well I practise boundaries and am careful about sharing my life/our life with people I/we don't know and have yet to be clear in intuitions and questions about. I would say I have a reasonably healthy scepticism (well sometimes I borders on neurotic paranoia lol ????). I am aware of the ex Bank of England or Wall St directors, the ex-SAS, and the James Bonds hanging out on the island hahahahaha. I'm old enough and stable enough in myself to love being alone and letting my darling have her space too. I cherish a round by myself, or a dawn swim of the beach with maybe one or two people on the whole beach and no one in the water, yoga and meditation afterwards. These solitude moments makes being with my mates all the more enjoyable.
  23. Crikey ... a bong can be your best friend, bubbling away happily ???????? When mentioning basements I immediately thought of everybody's favourite neo-Nazi Nick Fuentes hahaha????
  24. Wife to husband before he leaves the house for his early cab shift; 'Did you remember your lunch box and cold drink flask darling? ... Oh don't forget your machete and Glock dear, your always forgetting the Glock.'
  25. People with money who are secure in themselves don't show their money off. A braggart is a braggart no matter their fiscal integrity. Because someone has bucks and can buy and enjoy a lifestyle that affords things and experiences can be seen by those who have little or far less as stimulus for petty and obvious jealousies. Some with money are so miserly they can't spend that which they have and revel in a Calvinist lifestyle and die with stacks of money and live on worn out furniture, carpets with holes in them, and stiff every person they can for a bob. One of the richest families in Australia; the Packers, had a home in Bellevue Hill, Sydney and the rugs in their home were worn through to the backing. This family were known for their misery mean spirit. For others who have millions and cannot part with it ... there was a memorable character named Scrooge. How sad.
