Won and Baht Battle in Dramatic Year-End Currency Flip
Meanwhile, the baht, which tumbled to its largest drop in seven months, is drawing concerns as market players brace for potential BoT action to control its ascent, which could harm exports. Baht seems to be back to where it was a year ago - my Feb to April 2025 exchanges of UKP averaged 42.69. I'm happy if it stays at that for my upcoming trip.

What is the dumbest thing you have seen at the airport?
Not sure if this helps but I've read that at BKK anyone over 70 can use the Priority line - the ones that Business Class pax use. Anyone confirm? One of the dumbest things I've ever seen was, waiting for a Thai flight to London, with the gate about to close, the staff were running around like crazy, looking for a family who had checked in but were now missing. Finally found them still in the duty-free and when this Sikh family finally arrived at the gate, the Thai staff were berating them for holding everyone up. The man of the party announced to all "But madam, we are always late" It's either funny or he's an arrogant <deleted>, depending on your POV!

Drink-Drive This New Year? Thai Courts Say Expect No Mercy
That surprises me - Australian friends have told me that Oz is similar to UK. In UK, the law and the severe penalties are the same all year round. The only difference in UK is that the police are looking out more keenly for likely drunks and will use any possible justification to stop and breathalyse. Same applies to drug driving. Personally i have no problem with it - I KNOW my judgement is impaired after drinking alcohol!

Illegal Sex Toy Bust Renews Calls for Law Reform in Thailand
So, opening myself to ridicule here, what is the penalty for bringing something like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0FCXQ47CL/ref=ox_sc_saved_image_2?smid=A2158KCNV485W8&th=1 into Thailand? "Asking for a friend" - I just haven't met her yet! 😉

Foreign Man Caught Cheating Bangkok Curry Challenge for ฿20,000
When I was young and stupider than I am now, (🤔) a friend and I after copious pints of beer decided to visit an "Indian" restaurant in London. This place had a sign outside "If you can finish our Vindaloo, it'll be free." So friend and I think "We can do that, we're a couple of geezers" So we went in, ordered and were served.....and watched the staff whispering together and smiling 3 things happened: We were sober in about 10 minutes. We both "finished" after about a quarter of the food was eaten. We paid our bill and left. As for the following morning.... I really don't wish to discuss it further 🤧😵😲

Thai English Proficiency Slips Further Down Global Rankings
In Cambodia, Siem Reap specifically, my ex TGF was approached by 2 youngsters, whom i might describe as street urchins. They wanted our empty plastic bottles. They spoke to her in Khmer which neither of us understood. When she looked baffled, I said "Lady Thai", upon which they looked at me and asked for the bottles in good French. I assume they thought I sounded French. When I gave them the bottles, saying "Here you are", the reply came in English "Thanks Mister" So, poor uneducated kids with 3 languages perhaps necessary for their own survival? IME, most Asians, other than Thais, have at least a good grasp of a second language, usually but not always English.

Thailand Influencers
I'm not quite sure who the bigger losers are: The so-called "influencers" or those who allow themselves to be influenced. Both richly deserve to be totally ignored! That's the trouble with some social media - it allows people without thought-out opinions to get one off the shelf!

Foreign Tourists Cancel 40% of Trat Bookings After Clashes
True - certainly for Brits, this would invalidate insurance https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/thailand FCDO advises against all travel to within 50km of the whole border with Cambodia except for, Koh Chang, Koh Kood and the other islands in between them. FCDO advises against all but essential travel to Koh Chang, Koh Kood and the other islands between them. I was planning a road trip early next year with a mate who lives in Bangkok. We had planned to take in Trat and surrounding areas. Think again!

Trump Announces New Thailand-Cambodia Ceasefire
You are correct and insurance companies will use it as an excuse to deny ANY claims - that's how they work. As I said above "it all comes down to one's attitude to personal risk and adventurousness."

Trump Announces New Thailand-Cambodia Ceasefire
I know what you mean - when i was working, I went to a few places of which governments and insurance companies would definitely not have approved. It all comes down to one's attitude to personal risk and adventurousness. Enjoy your future travels.
