Phuket sees Covid-19 surge, lax prevention and booster shot issues
VBF replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Unfortunately for you, you're not part of the "most people". I sincerely hope you're fully recovered, but the fact remains that most vaccinated people, if they catch Covid, suffer less than if they were unvaccinated. I obviously don't know if that's true in your case, but then, neither do you. Sadly there will always be a few for whom vaccinations are less effective, they should possibly view themselves as vulnerable. Indeed, there are a (very) few for whom "regular 'flu" is a serious condition but we cannot keep deferring a return to normality to accommodate everyone. -
Phuket sees Covid-19 surge, lax prevention and booster shot issues
VBF replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
When I was in Pattaya Feb - April, very few people were bothering. The only place masks were compulsory was in SCB! I never quite got that. As others have said, it's really nothing to worry about any more for most people - the tone of the OP basically said that those suffering were the clinically vulnerable and those who cannot be bothered to get boosters. There's a clue there! -
Do I need to print tourist visa?
VBF replied to Leon1980's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Now that IS useful to know ????????????as one might assume that logically one could destroy any original printout having entered Thailand. (I'm assuming they need to scan the QR code when you do an extension.) Same as I've often been told to keep my boarding pass when entering the country although I've never actually been asked to show it. -

Coronavirus / Face Masks Intl Traveling Report
VBF replied to TallGuyJohninBKK's topic in COVID-19 Coronavirus
Which, IMO, is how it should always have been - governments should give ADVICE, not enforce restrictions on adults, as, right from the outset, it was the higher risk groups who needed protection - the majority of those who got really sick from Covid were in the various higher risk groups. -
I would also recommend both of those. Tuol Sleng, the Genocide Museum is horrific and moving https://tuolsleng.gov.kh/ and really made me THINK about what happened in Kampuchea as it was. If one is in PP it's possible to visit it and The Killing Fields in one day. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killing_Fields A friend told me that "You'll never look at a school in Thailand or Cambodia in quite the same light again" - he was right! It was a day I shall never forget, however dramatic that may sound.

Coronavirus / Face Masks Intl Traveling Report
VBF replied to TallGuyJohninBKK's topic in COVID-19 Coronavirus
I think a similar figure applies world over. Over the last few years and before getting vaccinated, I had "flu-like" symptoms on 3 separate occasions. Only once did I bother to test (because I was planning to mix with people) and it was negative - i.e. it really was the flu or a bad cold. The other 2 times? I'll never know or care. -
I agree with both those posts - and would add that quite often, the more "interesting" a person's past, the more interesting the person. After all, we're all the sum of our experiences...hopefully experiences from which we've learned something.
-
I thought similar but when I visited AW I was knocked out. If you only go once GO! It's one of those few places that (IMO!) are worth putting up with lots of tourists just to experience. When i went with a former TGF, we got up at 4AM to try and catch the sunrise, but sadly it was overcast. The weather brightened up, so decided to stay and try to see the sunset - guess what, it clouded over and rained! And still...it was a memorable day.

What information do immigration officers have?
VBF replied to AAIrons's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Not strictly the case as I understand it. You have to apply in the country in which you are presently located. So, if a UK passport holder, who normally lives in UK, happens to be in America and wishes to travel to Thailand (s)he has to apply to a consulate in the USA. I THINK I've got that right but stand to be corrected if not. -
Cannabis Vendor in Pattaya Stabs Indian Tourist in Road Rage Incident
VBF replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
Just providing all those misinformed individuals with an anti-cannabis agenda a chance to vent (again)! Possibly whilst they sip their beer or whiskey?? -
I'm of much the same mind regarding jewellery - I wear my late father's signet ring and my watch is a £10 Casio! Plus the phone i carry in Thailand is a very cheap affair with NO personal information on it except a picture of my entry stamp. Also your comment about some people wanting a gang-bang is pretty much what i meant by "....harassing the girls with their "Cheap Charlie" offers...."

I've often wondered about that. When you apply for a Tourist Visa in UK, there's a requirement to give "travel booking confirmation" but that can obviously be falsified. So, unless someone is checking things like IP addresses how does the Embassy know you're actually IN the UK just because you say you are? Also, when I fly to Thailand from UK, I go via another country eg Dubai or Abu Dhabi so i don't actually arrive on a UK flight. I'm NOT suggesting anyone breaks the rules, just wondering how this particular rule can be enforced. -
If truth be known, they're probably amongst the group of people the police want to get rid of! From what I've seen they're either harassing the girls with their "Cheap Charlie" offers, or making false claims to have been robbed by ladyboys! Quite frankly anyone who is stupid enough to: a) wear valuable jewellery at night in a party town or b) get so drunk and incapable that they fall prey to opportunistic thieves deserves what they get...or rather what they lose. it's not the "ladies of the night" who are the problem!

Coronavirus / Face Masks Intl Traveling Report
VBF replied to TallGuyJohninBKK's topic in COVID-19 Coronavirus
Just adding my recent experiences in case they're relevant: February 2023 flew London Gatwick - Dubai - SUV on Emirates. A VERY few people in LGW were wearing masks; similar at DXB. A few more were wearing them at SUV. Nowhere along the route were masks REQUIRED - left up to people's choice. April 2023 returned on the same route - very similar observations. Slightly but the ONLY place I've been REQUIRED to wear a mask this year has been SCB at Pattaya Klang. -
Apparently the acts are a load of b0ll0cks ????

British Man Arrested After Attacking a Tuk Tuk Taxi Driver in Phuket – VIDEO
VBF replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
I don't know but probably. If there were more guns available in UK we would probably have an equivalent rise in gun crime. I use the word "probably" because I don't have statistics but just my reasoning. -

When at school, I got the cane for being a naughty boy - NOT for causing harm to others, by the way but for stupid disobedience. It got my attention and it hurt at the time, but it did me no lasting harm and I certainly would NOT call it torture! But your very question leads me to believe that you might be a "Woke" sort of person in which case you no doubt disagree with corporal punishment of any sort. Sadly, that is the only punishment which some thugs understand. -
