I agree about Wise being the best method. Worth mentioning (IMO) that timing is important. By that I mean, if you do your transfer when both the bank in your country and the Thai bank are open, then Wise takes from 10 seconds to 30 minutes from beginning to end. E.G.... If I'm in UK and do my transfer at 09:00 GMT which is 16:00 in Thailand, the transfer may be quicker as both countries are in banking hours. Were I to send the money at (say) 18:00GMT, (01:00 Thailand) then it may take a little longer. Might seem odd, considering that these are automated processes but might be due to one or other bank doing overnight maintenance for example. This is just based upon my experience, not upon any inside knowledge, and, having said that unless waiting a few hours for the money to move is a problem, then Wise is still fast and efficient IME.

Slightly but how does one pay for Bolt, Grab and Indrive in Thailand? In UK I have Uber and Bolt linked to my PayPal account but I'm led to believe that wouldn't be an option in Thailand???

This thread interests me because when I opened my account more than a decade ago restrictions were far fewer. Now, when i travel to Thailand, i do so on a Tourist Visa (I tend to do 60 day trips once or twice a year) So, next time I go to Thailand, I shall have to go into into SCB as I have a new passport and I need to update the record.. I'm wondering if, being on a Tourist Visa will cause me any problems. Anyone??

This thread is an example of how confusing the whole legality issue is! I'm not a user so it doesn't really concern me, but if I was I'd be alternately delighted and disappointed by the changes in the Cannabis laws. I would certainly be too scared to try and negotiate the purchase of it, in no small way because, as we know, in Thailand, if the police say you're guilty of something, at the very best it just gets expensive. I actually think it should be treated like alcohol - licensed and regulated, but then I think the same in the UK - at least the laws are clearly defined here.

Agree. to me, that's the one good thing about the pandemic. It's educated (some) people on that score and made it almost a "norm" to carry and use hand sanitiser. Also, (and I speak for UK now) the availability of cleanser is so much greater.

Bear in mind that quite lot of travellers from the West (specifically UK) are, like me, retired, getting pensions, government grants for heating etc and have no mortgages left to pay. in my case, rising interest rates are INCREASING my monthly income. Most of my friends are in a similar position. I of course feel sympathy for the less lucky folk but even with increased prices I'm planning on going to Thailand soon.

I've taken to carrying a small (50ml) bottle of sanitiser EVERYWHERE now Here in UK if I'm out I use after shopping and before eating. Just thinking about getting off baht buses when i return to Pattaya too.... As for masks...couldn't agree more ????
