  1. i ring 1 hour ago jack golf ( visa run company ) they inform me on friday , as it is very quiet , no minivan with depart at 5.30 am ! i then ring an other company i use in the pass , they have one minivan living at 4.50 for a visa run !

it look like the are badly hit with the new regulation !

and perhaps in the future will not run every day .

the company i ring do not advertise in bangkok post , they use too ! perhaps they link with the one who advertise departure at 4.30 from silom in the bangkok post

  2. If I use my visa in Thailand my cost is approximate 2.8 % extra charge but they give a good exchange rates compare if I am using cash .

If I use my Amex the cost is minim, but the exchange rates is not good

A transfer work the best for me : send Dollars to my bank in Thailand and get it change here !

  3. there are 2 buses from the airport to khaosan rd:

AE2 for 150 baht, every half an hour or so - the last from the airport is at 11pm and than 5am.

air con bus 516 for 35 baht to the Southern Bus Terminal on Taling Chan, Thonburi - is slower. 5am - 11pm but very arratic. Suppose to be every hour.

metered taxi should be around 400 baht - at the airport they ask twice of that.

    londthai

i went to ask few days ago, the lady in the told me the bus is running every one hour ( airport bus ) , before it was every half hour !

  4. every 4-5 weeks my friend do a transfer from australian bank to my account in thailand , around 2000 AU dollars .

send as dollar and will be change in thailand !

the last one was : rates 28.31 commission 250 baht and cost over there was 28 AU dollars

changing baht in australia ? you getting a very low echange rates

i am with bangkok bank and national in australia !

never see so much high cost as mention :

the thai bank charges 600 baht to your account plus 1.5%commision

How did your friend get such a good rate ?, I just checked on the National Australia Bank site and I got this...

    1 AUD = 26.909 Thai Bahts

    2000 AUD = 53,818.00 Thai Bahts

    Indicative Rate as at: 22-DEC-2006

I would like to know since I was doing transfers with St. George Bank and they were around 27.3, however now they

have stopped transfers to Thai Bank's.

    Regards

    Frank

Frank i just reply to your privat message .

i ask my friend to send AU dollars and change in thailand .

i never change aus to Thai baht in australia , the rate is not good !

next time i get a transfer will tell you what i am getting and you could compare day for day

    cheer

  6. why not just sen aussie dollars over from your account, then when it arrives in thailand they change to baht.

yes doing that the past 1 year , after visa start to charge nearly 3% fee for withdraw or purchass ! I just was not sure how the thing will turn up today with the stockmarket and want some extra cash for few days !

looking at how quick can turn , my next move will be to buy few baht of gold for safe keeping !

  7. Hi,

just now tried use internet banking to send some money to my wife in Thailand like usual but the Thai Baht has been taken off their currency list. Called the bank's hotline and after waiting half an hour on hold they tell me they cannot transfer any amounts to Thailand at all [however small... LOL]

Anyone else having the same trouble?

Is it happening from America too?

    Any other ideas?

I'll look at Western Union - but I recall from last time I think they charge a lot more in commissions etc.

After reading your post i went to ATM , i try to withdraw 10000 bhat with my Amex ( it did not work ) coincidence ??? i am not sure

i was able to withdraw with the visa !

  8. you can't be a "tourist" in Thailand more than 6 month per year.
Of course, you can. It is those who cannot be away from Thailand for more than a couple of days and therefore go to a neighbouring country for their tourist visas who fall under suspicion that they might not be real tourists but instead might be working illegally in Thailand.

If you are a genuine tourist, get a double-entry tourist visa in your home country: 6 months in Thailand with one visa run. Go home for a month or so, apply for a new double-entry tourist visa. Another 6 months in Thailand with one visa run. You have a total of 11 months in Thailand as a tourist within a 12-month period.

Genuine tourists are expected to have a home – outside Thailand – to which they return every once in while.

    ---------------

    Maestro

Maestro, you've summed it up nicely. Tourists have homes outside Thailand. Mine is only about a 78,000 baht round trip away. Well, with devaluation of the dollar, maybe 72,000 including air fare, lodging, visa purchase, Western food, etc.

And when I insisted on taking two weeks to make a visa run, my employer did not understand. As if they could imagine living 11 time zones from their loved ones; as if they would fly home without seeing family.

employment with tourist visa ? hum ??

  9. I saw a reclining electric bed modernform ( health & care ) I like , but the price is stiff , bit over 300000 baht.

in Central they have slimflex about 220000 baht .

first I went a low mattress / bed , second electric bed, king size.

If someone have more informations, please post them !

I like futon , bring mine from Australia , but can not find any here !

please move in other forum , if you feel like

  10. Why would you bother sending heavy items like washing machine / tv / etc? All of these can be bought quite cheaply in Thailand. We compare prices from Sydney to Bangkok & Chaiyaphum each visit. Pretty much everything can be bought in TH with a good saving - with UK pricing it can only be more. A 5kg front loader in AU is about AUD900, in TH it is about AUD500. Not worth the cost of shipping. You may also have trouble getting parts for machines not sold there.

Shipping is cheap , i send half container Melbourne to Bangkok for 950 dollars , better as to buy everything again !

the higher cost was the packaging-loading from my place to the container and the insurance !

  11. You have many hotels around this area ! What do you mean be cheap ?

Thai hotel ( rename hotel de' Mol) is 1400 baht

Swana hotel is 1400 bath ( I like this one )

in the corner of wisutcasa / prachatipatai just 15 metres from farmer bank bank is a small hotel aircond for 500 baht .

bit further in the same street an side (wisutcasa) is Trang hotel for 1200 .

( i went there yesterday to ask for price with a friend, they said if you book on line you can get cheaper !)

one hotel i like is on Samen road soi 4 , but to my surprise it is now 1050 baht , i ask why as my hongkong friend stay there before for 480 baht , they said new rooms.

Opposit khaowsan is the temple ( wat chanasongkram ) all along it have guess houses and hotels.

One interesting place , just built along the klong look interesting , the new lodge hotel , walking from khaowsan on samseng road , just passing the bridge , it is along the strip of water !

I live there for a number of years , many place to walk , but as you said transport limited !

If you want under the price suggested , I think have many guess house , but never visit them !

You did said “But hotels in the old city rarely make the guide books or the internet sites (except for the high-priced "Royal").

Looking at the link for royal hotel

    http://www.bangkok.com/royal-hotel-bangkok/

I see the price from 1120 baht ( if that is a high price , mine will be too ) but I do not know the reality of the price mention !

    Few link

    http://www.swanabangkok.com/index.html

Remember it look grandiose as it is ! ( 1400 they told me yesterday ) but they have map of the area

  12. Bang Saen , i am quiet sure i went there few sunday for lunch , they have some very nice seafood restaurants !

best Poo mha and in season very nice oyster !

outside the food , nothing for me attractive there .

  13. I will give you some info’s about shophouse , some are freehold / some are temple land , and some are on king land !

The price vary greatly if it is a freehold or not ! and the position commercial !

Boyfriend ‘s father was selling one of his ( temple land ) and the shop house was already on the name of my friend , I bought it about 9 years ago , for under one million , spend 400000 baht to add new bathrooms one the terrace upstairs, one downstairs / new windows all length of the wall , partition , ceiling , air-conditioned , change the stair position , all new lighting / plumbing , new garage door , plus other !

I will said the rental in the street is about 8000 baht perhaps bit more .

Every three year a contract have to be sign with the temple , who own all the shops houses in the soi , the cost is one ( three year period ) 5000 baht , the other ( three year period ) 50000 baht ! total for 6 years for 55000 baht .

Every years I paid them a sum of 11000 baht for tax / insurance and a kind of rent .

I done the total sum , the cost is 1650 baht a month include the contract cost !

I did ask them if they will accept a form of company seal for signing the contract , they said no problem ! Remember I do not own the land, but I do not want to worry with that as it will be a present for my friend !

I am looking long term with it , the shop house did increase a bit , said 20 % the last 8 years, I am not here to make money , but I have a place and a area I like to live in, no body corporate fees and problems, calm neighbor , plus a dog !

The shophouse is over 40 years old and as been with the same temple ! Everyone paid the same in all the street !

You can do any sort of businesses if I wish too , but I just live there , three stories .

Some temple charge less, my friend around Sanamlung paid 500 baht a month , no cost for contract but shophouse is about 3-4 million and the rental higher ( Pra Chan road ) and it is only commercial !

I presume you read the Bangkok post article this morning on shophouse in Pra Atit and Pra Samsen road , I can assure you the rental there is very high , my friend wanting to open a restaurant look at few buildings !

Look a small soi for a better deal , ask around .

  14. i bough a Zanussi over 8 years ago , they do not sell this brand here anymore , but Electrolux is taking in charge the repair !

They show to be very good and professional when I need them , if i need to get a new one i will buy a Electrolux without doubt .

  15. Yes Bmanly is right , you will be tax 10 %

If you are a Australian citizen you have the advantage of a tax rebate , see table under when you do you income tax !

The 49% do not exist , the higher rates is 45 % for over 150000 dollars

    Tax on this income

    $0 – $6,000

    Nil

    $6,001 – $25,000

    15c for each $1 over $6,000

    $25,001 – $75,000

    $2,850 plus 30c for each $1 over $25,000

    $75,001 – $150,000

    $17,850 plus 40c for each $1 over $75,000

    Over $150,000

    $47,850 plus 45c for each $1 over $150,000

  16. A friend just arrived from Canada with 2 x 60 days visa

So what happens - Can he use one 60 days and then get another 30 days extension

    X 2 = 180 days

    ?????

BlackJack i think for your friend as he has a tourist visa, the rules do not apply to him yet ! until he finish his 2 visa , then he will be on the three maximum 30 days stay, unless he apply for a new tourist visa from wherever !

    perhaps i am wrong

  17. i took my dog few time to
