  1. Just as a comparison, in Berlin I ocasionally reserve a single room for a colleague in a hotel on the "Kurfürstendamm", which is pretty much a top address. During the week the room costs 78 Euros with breakfast - at weekends or when there is a big exhibition, event or whatever the same room costs up to 180 Euros......................

  2. I can force it down....... :o ...but avoid it normally..........especially after seeing how a young cousin of my wife suddenly acquired a taste for it about 3 years ago and literally stuffed herself with the stuff, eventually putting on around 20 kgs. She used to be a very cute, petite girl............... she´s now a very fat, not-at-all cute young woman....... :D

  3. I´m a Brit from N.E. England, who has lived in Berlin for the last 31 years. My wife and I visit Nongwahyay, about 8 km outside Nongbualamphu, every 18 months or so........we´ll be there March/April next year again. I speak, read and write reasonable thai...............but, as we all know, the locals communicate pretty exclusively in Isaan, which I find somewhat frustrating - and sometimes annoying - , especially when they insist on speaking Isaan to one another, even when I am immediately involved in the conversation..... otherwise I speak German and Russian (studied both at university and trained to be a spy.............. listened in on the East German government from 1976-1979 in Berlin....) and a bit of French.............. There are certainly more TV members in and around Nongbualamphu ... but they haven´t outed themselves yet-------------- :o

  4. When I flew from Berlin to BKK many years ago, using Turkish Airlines, I naturally also stopped over in Istanbul...........the connection is atrocious...had to wait 22 hours for the connection.....anyhow to cut a long story short, I also went into Istanbul....paid 5 pounds on the spot for the visa.............. be warned, however..........as one poster said it now costs 10 pounds, MAKE SURE you have a ten pound note with you............if not, the money changers at the airport will sting you terribly with the exchange rate. They won´t accept any other currency - if you are a Brit - other than british pounds...........and will send to you a currency exchange desk next door which will offer you the most abominable exchange rate you have ever seen................... :o And I too will keep my opinion of Turks to myself............. :D

  5. A lot of graffiti qualifies as art. In the city where I live, some store owners pay graffiti artists to paint huge murals on the side of their buildings. One Jewish restaurant has a graffiti mural of jewish immigrants arriving to the country.

I don't remember seeing a ton in Bangkok. I remember there was seeing cool ones close to Nana BTS, in a building where the construction seemed halted. Dunno if it's still there.

If it´s requested and paid for then I also have no objections to it being called art............ but unwanted graffiti spraying is ugly and criminal in my eyes............ I too would chop off their hands (or even something else?????) if I caught them............ :o

  6. i seem to have great difficulty making myself understood when going for a haircut , and end up with terrible haircuts.

and being intolerably vain and blessed with a full head of hair i do value a good haircut.

so could somebody please post relevant colloquial phrases to use when going for a haircut.

    e.g.

    not too short

leave it long but just tidy it up a bit

    dont touch the sideburns

i dont want it to look too styled

    just a trim

not closely cropped at the back.

.......................................... any any other haircut related words or phrases that anybody can come up with.

    thanks.

Why not just take along photos of other equally vain people´s haircuts???? :o

  7. Just woundering how many people have insulated they homes, other then foil of the roof!

    IE) walls-roof-double pane windows?????

What are there takes on this in home cooling?

Foil off the roof and you could easily inflict wounds on yourself or even break your neck ................(sorry.......just couldn´t resist it....... :o )

  8. Hi again, Sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner. I'm working in Iraq now at a military base and I don't have access to a computer but ever so often.

As I stated before I am planning to come to Thailand to live hopefully within the next six months. Do you have any info on getting the retirement visa ?

You said earlier that you were going to be in NBL around the middle of Mar 2008. Would like to meet you if possible. I'm looking to meet people in the area as that's the best way to get to know the area and to make new friends.

Will wait to hear from you. If I don't get right back to you it's because I'm not able to get to the computer. BILL

Hi Bill..................... in Iraq??? At a military base???? Christ, I can´t think of many worse jobs to have!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then you´ll certainly have deserved your trip to Thailand, when you finally get there!!!! My wife and I will be in NBL pretty much from 30th March until 5th April 2008, +/- a day or 2. (We´ll be touring other parts of T. in the 2 weeks before that). If you´re going to be there, I´ll give you a contact number nearer the time. I think there will be a couple of other farangs there as well, that we could meet up with. Any readers who will be there, please raise your hand!!!!! :o

  9. Don´t you guys bore - or worry - yourselves silly over the Baht going up and down?????? Each reversal of movement initiates yet another new thread here. There are few constants in life.............. stop bloody worrying about it!!!!!! :D

Wow! You must be a guy who is most contented in life and has no curiosity on matters affecting your life.

Not really............. I just find it laughable how one group of people expresses great concern when the Baht rises, another then expresses great concern when the Baht slips again......... and many seem to be soooooooo concerned and foresee doom and gloom. Of course I want the best rate for my Euros............but I´ve stopped wetting my pants at every change in direction..................... :D:D:o

  10. I put my previous post today into the wrong thread................ so here´s my second query here, to keep the thread going..... :D

2 years or so ago I bought a "spinning" or "speed bike" via e-bay( got it for 320 Euros including delivery costs as opposed to the normal selling price of 999 Euros). It´s a semi-professional bike, used in sport studios - you´ll probably know what I´m talking about.... has a fixed 20 kg front wheel with a chain drive. Anyhow I train on it at home (obviously!!!) a couple of times a week and it is absolutely fabulous.............. living in a city, it´s just not practicable after work to get on your bike and do a 1-2 hour ride (have to get away from the traffic first to make it enjoyable - I do that at weekends - so I just jump on to my spinning bike (great during the winter months or when is chucking it down....... :D ) - and cycle for an hour or so..................... anyhow I would to take it with me when we move to Thailand but would only be able to if we take a load of other stuff (i.e. in a container). Has anyone seen such bikes in Thailand???? I´m talking about a good one, though - I don´t want a load of rubbish that falls apart after a few months........... :o
