  1. CW can be very fussy. I used Citibank, taken over by UOB. Plenty balance all the time, but since there were two accounts and they were not prepared just to follow the balance in the monthly statements it was rejected. Thankfully I had a plan B, another account with another bank. I went back to UOB to have them state that both accounts belonged to me and were continuous, but I can't tell the result at CW, because they went with my plan B. Took me two days.
  2. Wise takes from your wallet whatever currency is available and best deal.
  3. This year I had to appear three times in person. Once for a new passport, for which I have some understanding and twice for entering the country again, hard to understand how this is useful if you live at the same address for more than 10 years. I did not know about this and did not about online appointment, but since during Covid I went to the Pak Kret office once because I did not get a reply to my mailed application after more than six weeks and there was hardly any queue, I thought I would just go to CW and fix this. I arrived at 10.30 and queue number was 384. As said here the process was at 10 per hour, so that looked as if I would never have my turn. At the desk however they assured me I would be processed that day. Towards the end of the afternoon the speed went up. Then me and another person (both white hair) were taken out by the staff and got our 90 days. And I can confirm that an online appointment is served punctually. This still whole 90 days can do with a revamp.
  4. I am mostly "under wifi". Outside I use it for e-mail, maps, low data kind of stuff. And I have neither Fakebook nor Instagram.
  5. I have had True subscription for around 300 baht/month with 1,5 GB (more than enough for me) for over 10 years. Happy with their service, never had a problem, never had no signal.
  6. You get rejected if you have been outside the country and re-enter.
  7. Actually my choice is not there. In principle I will refrain from drinking when I have to drive, but accept either one glass of wine or a small beer over some period of time. After that it's a red line. As a farang you will always lose if anything happens.
  8. The main thing was the "condescending tone". I think nothing would have happened if he had explained the hotel's green policies in a more neutral way. The only the discussion would remain whether this is stingy or not, but the manager would not be to blame for the hotel's approach.
  9. I saw that. Looks like it's not the same everywhere - as usual. I tried two stations and then gave up.
  10. Dutch embassy does it for free. Police can do but won't. Often doctors are also accepted.
  11. A mix of cash, credit card and QR. Whatever is most convenient or gives benefit.
  12. A friend of mine does not have the money but am agency arranges his extension every year. For a fee of course.
  13. I tried twice online after entering and got rejected. Had to show up at CW in person. Most annoying.
  14. Typo. Carbs was meant to be calories. And yes, different metabolism, not my specialty, but still calories. My point is just that you can't avoid calories by drinking spirits as the poster suggested.
  15. Thanks for the explanation but the issue at hand was creating a 'gut'. That requires calories whether from alcohol or carbs. The suggestion was made that drinking spirits can preserve the shape, I was just pointing out that they too contain calories. And oh, as an MD I am somewhat aware of the difference.
  16. Actually it's not so much the beer as the snacks that often come with it. Drinking arouses the appetite (to be ahead of the funny guys: yes, not only for food). I can tell from own experience: love to drink beer but don't snack, constant weight (BMI<25) for over 10 years. And as for the spirits: 1 gram of alcohol contains 7 calories. There are 65 cal in a standard glass of whiskey, about 83 in a small bottle of beer. Only alcohol free spirits have zero carbs. Cheers!
  17. Good luck getting something to eat in Sukhumvit area then!
  18. You are right about this, I have one of these memberships and know that 30% discount is more like 20%, but this is a bit beyond the scope of this thread.
  19. It has nothing to do with being able to afford to eat. I perfectly well can. You may not have understood that my issue is about informing customers what they may expect.
  20. So I buy something for 99 baht and find out I have to pay 116?
  21. In most European countries prices for goods must be shown as what they actually are. No surprises when the bill arrives. In many Thai establishments, in Bangkok even the vast majority, there are prices on menus that change according to the small print at the bottom: "10% service charge and 7% VAT will be added." Since this is a fixed increase it is hard to understand why the prices cannot already be shown as the final amount needed to pay, instead of everyone having tho make the the calculation themselves or getting an unpleasant surprise when the bill comes up. Although the prices seem lower, there is unpleasantness in the end, so I don't see the upside of this way of presenting a menu. Or can anyone enlighten me?
  22. Just want to emphasize that my way is easy and comfortable, just requires some patience, but only for the more exotic choices. I usually easily find what I want to watch, download and I'm all set. This has led to a collection of over 1200 movies, some are a bit rare, but moset readily available.
