Its quite likely that the bank have no idea who his GF is and wouldnt be interested in her story .

This is an issue between the bank and the property owner

That's what I have been saying. They need to get the owner on board. Then they can work together towards one goal.

Dependent on the debt amount, they may be able to clear it and then organise a different payment system that includes the owner showing payment confirmation each month.

First step, find out how much is owed.

Buy the house from the bank at a discount. Clearing the debt whilst in another name is too risky.

Do they give discounts? If so, that might be an option.

The clearing the debt would be under agreed supervision.

Ideally the OP needs a 300k discount ????  Running after the idiot owner who stole their money is likely to be a painful and fruitless task.

I don't understand why a 100k down payment. What happened to that money?

  3. I bought something like this; https://th-th.facebook.com/marketplace/item/566444005263067/ for use when here.

Compare the ease of getting to user replaceable parts to your e-machines laptop.

The problem is that you end up using the device sub-optimally for the lifetime of the device because any kind of maintenance is prohibitive.

600 baht to fit your own SSD quickly and easily; compared to perhaps 2000 baht from your local tech as he had to take the whole thing apart....and perhaps cracked the plastic along the way.

Did you just try to waste my time by making me do that nonsense??? Adding you to my IGNORE list!

When was the last time you had any kind of virus on Windows? Malware is what most people are defending against and the suggestion is that you use additional antivirus software on a ChromeBook....just like Windows.

It was never a mistake. It cost me less than 5000 baht and I've had 5 years out of it. I know people who spend 40 or 50,000 on laptops and do nothing more with them than I do.  Why on earth would I want to spend that?  It may very well be easy to install more memory - I have done that before on a Sony and it was very easy. However, after discovering that my  laptop is much older than I thought and in light of the current problems, it will be replaced.  I don't think its cost effective to spend any money at all on it.

No, I didn't try updating the bios. Whenever I've tried doing anything other than downloading programmes etc. in the past, its caused more problems so I leave such things well alone. I asked for advice and I do listen to it but if I think its beyond my capability, I either leave it to the professionals or replace the item.

I'm also wary of any form of updates due to problems I've had in the past. For example, when I was on Windows XP, the boffins always advised me to carry out updates.  On numerous occasions when I did that, my PC crashed and I quite often lost data - I know of others who often had the same problems.

Its very easy for someone who understands computers to say - just do this or just do that. If I tried to explain how a car automatic geabox works, would you be able to repair one? Each to his own.

I don't know what others find but whenever I've gone on Google to find a problem fix, I find that when I'm told to ' click on settings and scroll to this' or 'open' that - those things are not on my computer and the photos of dialogue boxes don't even resemble anything I can find on my system.

I understand that SSD hard drives are a big improvement and I will most likely replace my laptop with one that has an SSD

    5000 baht new? I don't think so.

I did not suggest to spend 40k. Read my suggestion again; I suggested 'second user'.

My DELL Latitude is the same age as your ACER, though with an Intel i5 CPU. I spent 3,000 baht. Still runs perfectly; just needs a new battery. 46k new.

This is what I mean. You needs are few, so you don't need to waste your money on the latest and greatest.

If your laptop was as solidly built with a better design, then it would be worth spending the 600 baht on an SSD that you could quite easily fit yourself. Takes seconds on my device. Yours has to be completely disassembled; so not worth the cost of someone doing that plus the cost of the parts. Especially when you aren't even sure that it will fix the issue.

Your analogy with regard to an automatic gearbox is pure nonsense. Of course if you gave me a detailed video guide and it was within the capability of a normal untrained person, I could do it.

Anything that I suggest to you, I KNOW that you can do, with a little guidance. So it would be a matter of you communicating that you need guidance. Then you will get a personalised tutorial. One that fits with your device. Remember that I asked for the product code? That gives me the exact device description.

What people like yourself do not realise, is that when you tell yourself that you cannot do something, you diminish your own capabilities. If you think you cannot, you cannot.

Don't be so afraid all the time. Your XP stories are XP stories. XP is more than twenty years old. Things have changed.

We are here to help. I'm sure that you would prefer to just muddle along on your own.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions but it seems I was wrong about the problem only occuring when on Asean Now.  Today I had several tabs open (but not Asean Now) which is not something I normally do. Two of them had a lot of graphic content and the laptop froze again after about 30 minutes use.

I've also noticed that its quite a lot older than I thought it was - its just not worth the time or money trying to locate the fault. Updating it and adding more memory with no guarantee its fixed is most likely a waste of money. I'm going to replace it and leave this one in Thailand to replace the one that was stolen last year.  I have a Thai friend who's an IT teacher, I may ask him to look at it and he may well have some memory kicking around.

Learn from this mistake. Do not again buy plasticky crud that you need to disassemble completely in order to do simple maintenance.

Swapping the storage to solid state should take minutes and be user-friendly. Your laptop is not.

Do not buy anything with a mechanical hard drive; no matter how tempting, unless it's something like a second user DELL Latitude, where a storage drive can often be swapped in a few minutes, even by a novice.

Check beforehand as to how easy or difficult it would be to upgrade RAM and storage drive.

Did you even attempt to update the BIOS? I doubt it ????

You can transfer the credit to another phone number so wife’s phone. Also she can transfer validity to you so if she keeps topping up she can give you time. There is a small transfer fee but it could be worthwhile.

Cannot transfer from AIS to Truemove H. But not a problem to keep the credit. AIS refund in cash if you close the SIM or you can use it for data packs if the need arises.

What do you do up there, just sit in your room or stay in the buildings facilities or resort enclosure, like gym, fitness room, pool, etc?

Personally, I need to "live in the neighborhood". That means exploring, hiking around, finding new things, etc. and it cannot include only driving out of the area each time or taking a bolt taxi into town.

It's just as good there as anywhere else. Phra Tamnak has green places for walking; cannot fault it for that. The dogs aren't a bother once you introduce yourself. Though the Kasetsin/Cosy Beach area itself is like a small isolated village. Nothing wrong with that. Depends on how you want to live. It won't suit everyone; nor should it.

I have a friend with a 34 s/m 1 BR at Tropical Garden on Pratumnak 4.  Currently paying 6000 on a 3 month contract but she's already been told to expect between 8 & 10,000 to renew when her contract expires next month.

They are trying it on. She should find a better and bigger place. I've seen 40 sq.m. with pool etc for 3.5k monthly, in the centre.

To add to all the travel misery, anyone needing to rent a car in UK these days is in for a shock. Shortage of cars generally mean that rental prices are insane.

I had to rent a car in Inverness when I was last back in April: £980 for 4 days from Sixt (the cheapest available) for a manual Skoda Octavia Estate or equivalent (ended up with a Kia of some sort that wasn't ready at the booked time, so spent an hour waiting ... but I digress).

Thought about renting from LHR on my next trip back later this month but, f#*k me, I only want to rent it, not buy it!

    "BUDGET' (great name guys).

Hertz ... pay at location prices add another 20% or so.

More a case of not attracting attention by looping in a rinse and repeat cycle.

    Just paranoid android.

Seriously? It's better because you only put money in once. In fact, once you have done the first 12 baht deduction, you can walk away from that machine and go to another, anywhere. When you use the new machine, it will recognise that you still have 88 baht to utilise, as that info is  stored by mobile number. So you don't need to find exactly 12 baht each time. Don't overthink it ????

    Thanks for the info, all.

I think we'll go with the SIM card and a stand-alone router.

We're looking at this TP-Link model that has two hard-wire connection ports.

    https://www.lazada.co.th/products/tp-tp-link-tl-mr100-4g-1-by-wpnmobile-i3773515787-s14338466880.html?freeshipping=1&search=1&spm=a2o4m.searchlist.list.6

Bare in mind that regardless of what has been posted, you will be limited to at the most, around 20 Mbps. The 300 Mbps figure posted is just pie in the sky and certainly not available via the MR-100.

You can also consider and compare the D-Link DWR-M920.

Truemove H and DTAC currently offer packs with unlimited 'up to 30 Mbps' connections for 265 monthly or thereabouts. DTAC has an annual option.

AIS offers an 'up to 30 Mbps' unlimited connection for 235 baht per month.

These are through selected distributors and not direct from the network. There are lesser promos that you can add via USSD code, such as unlimited 15 & 20 Mbps.

There is the beach at top of picture, about 100m walk to promenade.  I should have used this picture but the view of Neo & it's pools is in the shade at bottom here.

    2.2 9May2022.jpg

How does this improve on what you posted before? Can you walk through the Jomtien Plaza Condotel grounds in order to get to the promenade? It's clearly not a 100 metre walk; to suggest such a thing is purely disingenuous. It's double that as the crow flies; but you cannot even walk as the crow flies.

My place is beachfront; I walk out of the property and directly on to the beach.

Now it seems that the OP neither needs 'beachfront' nor a fitness room, but can "buy an exercise bike".

I suggest that he uses the exercise bike money to get the girl a decent place to stay. He can get exercise from pushing her wheelchair.

Get a place with ample space. Prepare her fresh high protein and high carb shakes; as opposed to oily and overpriced commercial emulsions.

Actually it begs the question as to how anyone knows what floor she fell from. One report says the 3 suspects were all found in a room, were then released, whereafter the Jordanian legged it to the airport. As someone has pointed out, bad journalism and lost in translation seem to be equally to blame here. Not for her death obviously, but for the amount of gratuitous speculation they engender.

Does it matter? We haven't been asked to solve the crime. Everything here is speculation. As long as it is done in a respectful manner, it's not an issue. The people who were there know and the police probably have a good idea with regard to being on the scene and assessing the evidence.

    Amazing. Thanks.

Will it accept just 12 Baht in coins?

Have 160 Baht credit already, don't use it much.

Wife probably topping up her True SIM.

Yes, but then you will only have one month of validity and will have to repeat the whole thing again every month.

Don't stress yourself out over spending less than the equivalent of £3 for 12 months of validity.
