    Elder care at home

If no care available from family members (paid or unpaid - which is still most common) there is common hiring of person by those in need or their family (as said many nurse or aids will welcome such employment in later years). In past few years there have been commercial firms established providing such service at weekly/monthly price (short term nursing help to full time live in service with alternate person providing service when primary off or ill) in Bangkok area and believe at least one is run by a former doctor. Rest homes are still not used by most Thai and there are few of high quality but for some would be an option - perhaps more so if single. The idea of using lawyers to obtain such service/contracts would seem a very poor idea as Thai want to enjoy work - not feel forced - and the person suffering would be the person seeking the care if have unhappy staff.
  2. Because if we do not respond such comments stand as Google facts on instant social media such as this. Sad as it is.
  3. And I never made any indication that that could - what many expats can do however is apply for insurance from major countries to cover them here and not rely on Thai firms. And if they have good coverage in home country that will cover them here perhaps best to keep it even if payments seem a bit more.
  4. Correct. But a major factor is being from a country with strict oversight as are other insurance types and firms in many countries.
  5. Yes. In my case FEP/Blue Cross/Blue Shield
  6. I did not say they could not alter annual premiums - but it would be/is for everyone. Not based on a persons claims.
  7. Thai Insurance tends to pay those that have the means to make them pay.
  8. Well I have had bladder cancer/removal at cost of over one million baht and about another two million in related cancer testing/treatment over the 7 years since and my US insurance has no issue with payment and my cost remains the same. So very glad I have it.
  9. Who you know seems to be more of a factor for any kind of insurance payment here that elsewhere. I would not rely on Thai medical insurance to be around when needed.
  10. Bladder issues are not a normal symptom - blood in urine is most common first symptom (as it was for me). With non invasive and easy ultra sound available now get any such blood issue checked ASAP. It may only be exercise related as mine appeared - but cancer is a possibility.
  11. Actually you get a lot more buying at Zenni price. They have various qualities but none will be anything close to prices most places in Thailand charge.
  12. Appears that is between lines so applies to both eyes?
  13. Try this https://pirate-bays.net/
  14. As if the average person needs to pay a company to teach them how to read - forums and groups such as this should provide such information to anyone interested - and from what I have seen posted on commercial web sites, do so with a lot more accuracy.
  15. Don't believe any area is mainly foreign but yes Duma was first popular as not many foreigners and cheap living/walkable city away from normal typhoon path. Appears city is much more crowded these days and expats moving into the mountains but city remains a non tourist expat living/social area.
  16. And you know as well as I that is not what this is about. What is not legal is using such methods to obtain visa/extensions without meeting requirements.
  17. 90 day report is for those on extensions of stay - not 90 or less visa entry.
  18. Normally you would keep your health insurance. There are also free and cheap Mecicade and Medicare government and private options (which may be supported by government).
  19. There are no government hospitals. Care will cost but if you can not pay emergency care would be free to a point. It is insurance that will normally pay for medical care. Some jobs have insurance options - some don't. But many people will have private health insurance of some type.
  20. In PI most will be with family - just as in Thailand. Homeless in US is often a choice to avoid family. Medical is available in US with both private and government insurance and emergency care for all. But many make the choice to use insurance money for other things - unlike countries that have free care paid for by high tax rates. That said US is a country as are 194 others in our world today - none has a monopoly on either good or bad.
  21. Believe Iloilo City would be best choice for you - it seems quite well planned and open with easy access everywhere as you age. Bagaio would seem best for younger trekking crowd. Davao good for married folks.
  22. And many served military time there - Subic and Clark were very large facilities until 1992.
  23. Chok Chai 4 has not been a "Soi" for decades. At least the PBS report gets it right.
  24. The name change did not change forum from being Thai - and you can prove that with sub forum names and posting numbers if you believe being old negates logic.
  25. As said most just extend stay up to 3 years - exit for a day and repeat. There are extension of stay costs and visits to immigration but for most not married to a resident this seems to work well. For SRRV there are two classes (that a lot could qualify for) with low financial requirements. https://pra.gov.ph/srrv/
