Hmm, get the Chinese to print it for you!

Who still, effectively, control our national wealth. One would have hoped that the 2008 financial crisis, which was hugely exacerbated by the UKs corporate finance sectors exposure to bad debt in the US, would have warned against the practice. It is of course a massive simplification, but if banks, hedge funds and companies are hit hard by a significant draw down in the US economy, then they will seek to repair their funds which will impact upon UK business, jobs and prosperity.

Because we are fools, or to be more accurate those who control our national wealth, are fools! It's rather inexplicable, like the UK Government paying pensions into overseas accounts via an American Bank. It is touted as smoother and more reliable, but how and why the 6th largest economy in the world, and a major global banking player, needs to do this is a tad strange. I am personally keeping a very close eye on the dollar, if the US economy tanks then I will return to having it paid into my UK bank, and put up with the hassle of transferring money.

You are right, I approve of his actions regarding the Grooming Gangs. Happy to go on record regarding that. I also rather consider that his prosecution for contempt of court is perhaps vindictive - if he hadn't brought that particular grooming case to the public attention then it would have been buried like so many others; a touch of "who will rid me of this troublesome priest" perhaps?. I dislike his links with the BNP, the EDL, legal although to my mind deeply unsavoury groups, and (intensely) his street fighting hooligan activities (illegal) which he attempts to bring to politics.

Declaring people's voting intentions as a grave sin is way beyond an ex Archbishops remit. He was excommunicated - somehow that got missed from the OP. He is, as a private individual: Elon Musk, Taylor Swift ( who looks better in a frock by the way) to name but two other prominent persons, entitled to urge people to vote in a particular way. That is as far as it goes. The doctrine of ecclesiastical infalibity is confined to The Pope, and is then only applicable to matters of theology, not politics. He (the Pope) is guided by The Holy Spirit, unlike Archbishop Vigano, who appears to be guided by the Republican Party. He (Vigano) should concern himself with the souls of the faithful, not their politics, but that was always his problem; I speak as a Catholic, of six decades standing (some might jibe kneeling). Incidentally Vigano (an Italian) was excommunicated for his pronouncements against and defiance of the Pope, formenting schism. So he is an ex Archbishop, found guilty of crimes by the Church, just as Trump is an ex President, found guilty of crimes by the courts; anyone see a pattern?

@Danderman123, your post rather presumes that the early votes and mail in ballots in those states critical to Trump obtaining a majority in the Electoral College are counted! I should imagine that there will be a torrent of law suits aimed at stopping them from being counted; poised to go on the night of the 5th. They will be knocking on the judges doors up and down the USA within an hour of the polls closing.

It is unfortunate that a word smith as proficient and profuse as you failed ( perhaps in your haste and enthusiasm to batter down a comment with which you took exception) quoted me when in fact the origin of the quote was @WDSmart. A pretty fundamental error which perhaps calls into consideration the accuracy of some of your subsequent offerings - although once again your enthusiasm is admirable and shines through! In the interests of accuracy I am not an American and don't live in the United States. I do find very revealing the implication that the "Constitution", and the "Constitutional Republic" which it endows means that the current level corruption and political bias openly displayed by the Supreme Court to be acceptable !

Met Police Officer Dismissed Over Abusive Online Posts

Walthamstow? Whilst I jest, it is an uncomfortable fact that many of these people are second or third generation "in the UK" yet resolutely cling to their roots, and the mindsets, and religious and political guidance from these "mother countries". -
Project 2025 - What Is It? Mein Kampf for the 21st Century?

Oh my Gawd, Trump was on "the balcony"! Only Brits with a military background will probably understand!
-
Trump clearly knows nothing about project 2025, why else would he have a piece of black tape over his eyes!

Republicans already claiming voter fraud in Georgia

Evidence or lack of it is not the point. The intention is to disrupt and slow the ballot counting processes so that the deadlines are not met, the election itself is stalled and the selection of President ends up in the hands of Congress, or better still, ultimately the Supreme Court. We are witnessing a deliberate attempt to remove the electorate from the process of selecting a President, killing off democracy. There is a flaw in the plan - if the new Congress also being elected results in a Democrat majority. In that case of course the claim that the election has failed will be used to justify the existing incumbents remaining in place until "arrangements can be made". It will end up in the hands of The Supreme Court. -
And of course leaving behind a trail of debts, paid, if at all at cents on the dollar, destroyed traders and cheated suppliers. He has been getting away with it for years. And the claim is that he is a successful businessman, who will know how to manage the US economy. A remarkable record, and still they send in the money! Like the watches, they are just a means of grifting cash. The sneakers were aimed at small fry, the domestic US market. The watches, well that is aimed at raising much larger sums, internationally!

I don't deny the need to protect, and plan to protect, those working in ballot counting centres. But what does it say about the threat to democracy in the USA if snipers and drones are needed? A threat to democracy and the democratic process created by the more unhinged elements within MAGA ( Keri Lake?). Wasn't it Arizona where various armed vigilantes took it upon themselves to provide "a presence" at ballot drops in the last mid term elections?

A "big tent" principally characterized by the ever increasing number of people who have been expelled from it or have chosen to leave. The Republican Party used to be a party of values, a believer in values, freedom, liberty. It is now a mess dominated by a bizarre combination of racism, right wing Christian evangelism, the corrupt practices of it's leader, and a mish mash of authoritarian intents.

Are the Democrats out of Options to Stop Trump

Desired result or the actual result? There is quite a significant difference. -

What If the Dangers They Warn About Trump Are Correct?
herfiehandbag replied to SoCal1990's topic in Political Soapbox
I suspect that the first actions will be moves against the Media, and of course the rounding up and deportation of immigrants. Perhaps we can expect a new media slant: in depth investigations into Arnold Palmer's physical attributes, and cozy fireside reminiscences of a wide (sorry I meant wize but then on further consideration),old President recalling his time cooking fries at McDonalds! Keep the volume turned up, it will help drown the sound of the vigilantes in red hats kicking your neighbour's door down as they are suspiciously brown!
