  1. That is a fair effort. Almost feel like he should be congratulated for it. Almost. ????
  2. Then there's this. ???? Just in time for the National Book Fair coming to Bangkok, police this morning rated a Bangkok book publisher known for issuing material against the grain of normal Thai society. Fa Diew Kan, which translates to “Same Sky”, was raided at about 10:30 this morning by around 30 police officers. https://thethaiger.com/news/bangkok/book-publishers-known-for-controversy-raided-by-bangkok-police ????
  3. The test and go system is not to benefit visitors or to encourage people to come, it is to demonstrate how well they are doing in controlling the spread of the virus in Thailand and to inconvenience foreign visitors because, in true Thai fashion, they don't really want loads of us here at the moment but just can't come out and openly say so.
  4. Had it in Darwin, Australia. Was delicious but it was the saltwater variety not the freshwater. Big difference in the taste of the meat.
  5. Was there not a survey done on Thai traffic police recently that exposed 70% of them could not answer basic questions on the Thai Highway Code?
  6. All the same family. Not in their positions because of their skillset but because of the family they belong to. Therein lies the major problem.
  7. This is what happens when the Chinese immigrants cease to be just a merchant class but actually take over and make policy.
  8. In, out, shake it all about, You do the hokey cokey and you test and go, Money's what it's all about, hey!
  9. Here's mine, not far off for a lot less money.
  10. Sometimes we have to realise that this is the way it is here, and this is the country we've chosen to stay in. It's never going to change unfortunately, as much as we wish it would.
  11. The poster I replied to supported the military coup in 2014, hence my comment.
  12. I saw, but then realised the charges were politically motivated after a military coup. How is supporting military coups working out for you btw?
  13. All the reasons they want Amnesty gone are in that article right there. Damning.
  14. Dunno. Probably that he is far more intelligent, savvy, has better etiquette, is a better businessman, politician and economist, speaks far better English and is far more popular among Thais than the troglodyte currently pretending to be in charge?
  15. That is correct. It was under Thaksin that all the visa loopholes started closing and the alcohol restrictions started coming into force, thanks to pogroms by his mate Purachai, the ultra-conservative. Used to do my visa through The Wall and Vinnie the Visa back in the day, no need to leave the country. Pop over to the pub, sign the book, pay the fee, leave the passport, have some grub and a couple of beers, game of pool and all sorted. Pick up a week or so later.
  16. They already did that last century with mass Chinese immigration.
  17. All things designed to 'keep us in our place' and thus will never be changed.
  18. It's 100% true and widely reported at the time. Some posters seem annoyed that I posted it though. ????
  19. I was here and remember it at the time, which is why I posted it. If you think anything has changed among the Sino-Thai elite then I have a bridge to sell you.
  20. Hard to stop the uneducated dum dums from doing this sort of thing when this sort of stuff is condoned at the very top: Kenyan conservationists reacted with anger yesterday to news that a Thai zoo to which animals are being exported in a controversial deal is planning to serve an exotic game buffet to VIP guests. Guests at the opening of the Chiang Mai night safari zoo in northern Thailand will tuck in to a menu featuring tiger, lion, elephant and giraffe. Plodprasop Suraswadi, director of the zoo project, told reporters that guests will pay 4,500 baht (£64) each for a meal in which dishes range from locally reared dog meat to lion from Africa. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2005/nov/19/animalwelfare.kenya
  21. 18 years after the tragedy and they still haven't managed to implement this, probably down to lack of maintenance and lack of funding. They were happy enough to dip the till for the charity donations though.
  22. Maybe just his Twitter account then, as I don't use Facebook. Glad it wasn't only me that noticed it.
