  1. The vast majority of Thais would disagree with you on that one. As an expat, the 10 years from 1996 to 2006 were the halcyon days imo. Yeh, it got a bit worse under Thaksin in terms of visas and bar closing times, but the country modernised significantly under his tenure and you could still get a drink if you knew where to go.
  2. They are wrong 'uns to be sure, but that doesn't confirm if they had criminal records in Germany.
  3. Logistically, impossible to implement, and it would destroy the tourism industry which is already struggling to recover from Covid. If they did implement it, it will be restricted to retirement visas only, as that is the visa this murdering criminal was on.
  4. Even they are not that stupid to implement something that would cripple their tourism industry. They cannot get access to other countries' criminal databases either, so sharing data is another non-starter. Retirement visas, different story. Fewer applicants, and longer term stayers so less work overall. Difficult to manage but not impossible. I could see it being implemented for new applicants or renewals.
  5. He may even get off, similar to the accomplices in the body in a freezer murders in Bangkok, not so long ago. They were definitely involved, but got off after grassing and providing evidence on the main suspect.
  6. It's impossible to implement and would cripple tourism overnight. Not many people will bother to get a criminal record check for a two week holiday to Thailand.
  7. Retirement visas going to get a lot more difficult to obtain in the near future I reckon.
  8. Just as Sondhi and the Yellow Shirts did. Politicized a revered institution and get the people emotional. Same playbook.
  9. How deliberate the murder was, will depend on how large the brown envelope is.
  10. Stuff like this serves as a stark reminder what this place really is underneath all the shopping malls and gogo bars. And it will never change.
  11. It's seemed almost unbelievable just a few days ago, but it's possible. Fatty Watchbuckle at the head of a minority government with no power. Stalemate. "This is what happens when you don't vote for the good people". The traditional contempt for the Thai electorate by the elites and military to continue. If this happened, it would confirm what many think but don't say, that Thailand is just as much of a basket case as the rest of the countries in SEA, perhaps even more so, but with more bells and whistles.
  12. So, Prawit as PM at the head of a minority government. I can see this happening. Pita received 324 votes, with 182 against and 199 abstentions. 705 voted. So, if those against and the abstentions vote for Prawit there is a clear majority of more than half which is enough.
  13. No he won't. He will be banned from politics due to the shareholding in iTV and MFP disbanded.
  14. I am always amazed at the reckless, dangerous manner in which many Thais drive their trucks around Thailand. I am sure they would never do this if there were a proper Police force, checks on vehicles, checks on driving standards, and punishments for breaking traffic laws.
  15. Who will be paying the protesters their 500thb daily allowance this time?
  16. Typical in Thailand though. Attention to detail is not a forte.
  17. Last October: In one of the world's worst child death tolls in a massacre by a single killer in recent history, most of the children who died at the daycare centre in Uthai Sawan, a town 500 km (310 miles) northeast of Bangkok, were stabbed to death, police said. https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/least-20-people-killed-mass-shooting-thailand-police-2022-10-06/
  18. Eh? Back up your claims with evidence, not with anecdotal nonsense. Thanks in advance.
  19. They say people get the government they deserve, and by voting Palang Pracharath at the last election and voting in favour of the last constitution, they've only got themselves to blame for the current situation.
  20. Unfortunately, because she was caught entering Thailand, and not Australia for example, she will now not be eligible for a career in politics.
  21. Why would the accounts of the CEOs stall legal proceedings? ????
