American wanted for sharing explicit videos and abusing Thai women
RobU replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Correct and what most people don't realise is that when posting on the internet your location to within a few metres, when you made the post can also be determined by the right software or Facebook, when you 'check in' -
American wanted for sharing explicit videos and abusing Thai women
RobU replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Usually said by vicious people until they become one of the victims of unrelenting vicious humour. Then they start crying and weeping and complaining loudly about how horrid everyone is and try to get the 'wokie' people to support them. I watched Brand once and never again, I found him boring. An already wealthy man who used his wealth to promote himself by basically bribing his way into show business. -

There is a line between having a sense of humour and just being vicious. The vicious 'humour' of people like Russel Brand seems to have become popular in recent years. Taking delight in the pain and discomfort of victims is not normal UK humour especially when such comments can cause further pain to the victims. -

When you 'friend' someone on Facebook you automatically get access to all their friends by default and you can send messages to them via Facebook messenger. It is possible to switch it off but not many people are aware of it. Facebook is probably the most popular social media app in Thailand. It would be natural for the Thai ladies to accept a friend request from what initially appears to be a charming man and thus unknowingly give him a means of blackmailing them -

Interesting how many men on this site obviously hate women. -

Police Investigating Death Of Toddler Found Stuffed In Fridge
RobU replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Historically in many old cultures if you gave your real name to someone, you gave them a means of gaining control over you via witchcraft. Thus it may be a tradition from a more primitive era. I don't know if this is true of Thailand though. Just a thought -

Why the real father? He had to work he did his best to ensure his son was cared for and sent payments of 500 every day. The 2 murderers, I agree. But not the child's father -

The article actually states that she was the only working member of the family. You should really refrain from making personal.attacks on other members -

Interesting, it's usually the mother in law supported by her son who is the abuser. -

I see your point but the Thaiger is an English language publication and should ensure accuracy, prior to publication. That is the job of the editor who approves publication -

I honestly think that ASEAN NOW should stop publishing stories from the Thaiger and someone should report the Thaiger to the police for publishing fake news -
Bangkok woman’s unexpected fall in lift shaft sparks high-rise rescue

Unfortunately the linked story seems to be a Mish mash of 2 different incidents the links being both victims were women and there was a lift involved. It's total gobbledygook -
Drug-fuelled party raided in Sattahip, teens arrested
RobU replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
When will these idiots learn that the best way to draw attention to their drug use is to make a lot of noise, which all these drug using thugs do. If they had kept the noise down 'Enjoyed their drugs' and not tried to impose their jungle 'music' on everyone in a 2 mile radius they would not face charges of drug abuse. Also the number of police officers is for safety, the police didn't know how many gang members were at the party. Better too many police than too few -

Bangkok woman’s unexpected fall in lift shaft sparks high-rise rescue
RobU replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
She didn't actually fall down the lift shaft, she was trapped in the lift which stopped at the 58th floor according to the article, (another contributor to this forum says the building is only 18 floors high). The idiot who wrote this article and created the headline is a moron. I think it is the same 'reporter' who called deep drainage trenches 'sinkholes' when there were 3 separate incidents of the covers breaking and vehicles falling into the same exposed drain (as it crossed under different roads) and failed to link them -
Bangkok woman’s unexpected fall in lift shaft sparks high-rise rescue
RobU replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Fully agree, apparently she did not fall down the lift shaft at all. She was trapped in the lift which stopped at the 58th floor despite her efforts to halt its progress. I presume the doors wouldn't open hence the emergency services were called. The idiot who wrote this article and created the headline is completely off his trolly. -
Why is Google translate Thai-English so incredibly bad?
RobU replied to Jingthing's topic in Thai Language
I think there is an element of 'precious wokey' by the translation team. For example toilet has a direct translation to a word in Thai , however when used in a sentence the word is changed to bathroom hence you get the translated phrase "I'm just going to fix the bathroom in the bathroom"🤣. It also changes he to she and vice versa, boy to girl and vice versa, it changed my wife's name to a highly insulting word. It changes many words that have direct equivalents in English into completely different words or phrases. I understand Google has laboratories in China. Perhaps there is a deliberate element to make English speakers sound stupid and insolent -

Agreed but this is a power line that had already fallen and not been fixed. The countries you name set about fixing the problem of fallen power lines as soon as it happened. Fallen cables are reported and the relevant companies in Thailand totally ignore it until there is a serious accident or fatality. They then apologise (or not) give the relatives a basket of fruit and set up a committee to investigate (cover up and protect) an wait for the next fatality, rinse and repeat. -
Thailand is not the west. The cultural norm is that the bride is adopted into the husband's family after sinsod has been given to her family as payment for her upbringing. She is then considered to be a junior daughter of the household with her mother in law as the senior woman who allocates her tasks. Of course this tradition does not take account of the modern working woman. The Thai husband traditionally does not interfere. Many Thai mother in law's and mothers are lazy and expect to be served by the family and can be very domineering, this mother in law seems typical of that stereotype. My wife's brother broke the mould and kicked his mother out when she tried to assert dominance over his wife, but that is not common here. The rest of the family stopped speaking to him. (The eldest son is expected to take his mother into his household when his father dies or leaves). She spent some time with us and tried to dominate our household, I stopped her short and thankfully she left in a huff. The wife's mother in law or mother also expects financial support from the family, my wife used to give her mother 4000 baht each month and her mother would give it away to her favourite niece's and nephews (at the time my wife's guaranteed monthly income was 4000 baht per month she made her money in tips). It's a dominance tradition that worked in the distant past but Thai's are often reluctant to drop traditions, this woman is complaining on the internet because she can't complain at home, even though she works she is still trapped by tradition
